    News: Jon Matsumoto signed a one-year contract with the Sharks, the Team's Official Website reports.
    Analysis: Jon Matsumoto scored 60 points in 76 AHL games last season, marking the third time in four years that he put up 60+ points in the minors. He hasn't gotten much of a chance at the NHL level however, and only has two points in 14 games.
  • Panthers' Matsumoto Sent Back Down

    News: Jon Matsumoto has been sent back down to AHL San Antonio, the South Florida Sun Sentinel's Harvey Fialkov reports.
    Analysis: It was a brief visit in the NHL for Jon Matsumoto, who only appeared in one game for 5:04. The move was prompted by Florida's trade for Wojtek Wolski.
  • Matsumoto Called up by Panthers

    News: The Panthers called Jon Matsumoto from the AHL San Antonio on Thursday, Harvey Fialkov of the Sun Sentinel reports.
    Analysis: Jon Matsumoto was acquired last month in a four player deal that landed him in the Panthers' organization. This will be his first time skating with the Panthers. Matsumoto played 13 games last year scoring two goals in one game, accumulating all his NHL points.

    News: Jon Matsumoto has been traded to the Panthers, the Hurricane's official website reports.
    Analysis: Jon Matsumoto was Carolina's top AHL scorer, pegging 34 points in 41 games. He also will become a restricted free agent this summer.
  • Canes' Matsumoto Sent Back Down To AHL

    News: As expected, Matsumoto was assigned to the Charlotte Checkers (AHL) to make room for Jussi Jokinen, who returned from a lower-body injury Tuesday, the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
    Analysis: Matsumoto could be brought up again if (or when) the injury bug comes back to bite the team's forward corps. He simply doesn't play enough to warrant fantasy consideration.
  • Canes' Matsumoto The Odd Man Out?

    News: Matsumoto seems to be the most likely choice for reassignment to AHL Charlotte with Jussi Jokinen (lower body) expected to return to the lineup Tuesday against Calgary, the Hurricanes' official site reports.
    Analysis: The team has yet to officially announce a roster move to make room for Jokinen, but Matsumoto is likely to be the odd man out. After all, Matsumoto has been limited to 3:53 and 5:13 of ice time respectively, in two games since being called up to the majors January 7.
  • Hurricanes Recall Matsumoto

    News: The Hurricanes recalled Matsumoto from AHL Charlotte on Friday on an emergency basis, the team's official site reports.
    Analysis: Matsumoto will be in Raleigh for his third stint with the Hurricanes this season, taking the place of Jiri Tlusty, who was placed on injured reserve. Matsumoto has some offensive potential (24 points in 25 AHL games), but he has just two goals and no assists in 11 NHL games this season.
  • Carolina's Matsumoto Headed to AHL

    Analysis: Given that Matsumoto played about five and a half minutes against Ottawa on Wednesday, the lowest ice time for anyone who played in the game, it's not looking like he'll be a fantasy factor in the near future.

    Analysis: The 24-year-old played 10 games at the major-league level in November, highlighted by a Nov. 3 contest against the Islanders in which he potted two goals. Matsumoto reportedly will be available for Wednesday's game against the Senators on an emergency basis.

    Analysis: Matsumoto will report to AHL Charlotte. He will likely be recalled later in the season.
