Avalanche's Semyon Varlamov: Stops 43 in win

Varlamov made 43 saves on 45 shots in a shootout win over the Red Wings on Friday. Varlamov stole this game for the Avalanche, giving him back-to-back wins. However, this is also his first game with a save percentage over .900 in four starts, and his first game giving up fewer than three goals in four contests.

Avalanche's Semyon Varlamov: Receives Friday's starting nod

Varlamov has been tapped to start in goal for Friday's matchup in Detroit, Terry Frei of the Denver Post reports. Friday will be Varlamov's second start in as many nights, though he has allowed at least three goals in his last three starts. Varlamov may be having a difficult time finding his groove in between the pipes after missing four games with a personal matter, and head coach Patrick Roy could be keeping Varlamov in the net in an attempt to shake off any sort of rust. Friday, Varlamov will be taking on the red-hot Petr Mrazek and a Detroit team that has won their last three games.

Avalanche's Semyon Varlamov: Bounces back in win

Varlamov stopped 26 of 29 shots en route to a 4-3 victory over the Avalanche on Thursday. Thursday's win put Varlamov back on the right side of the winning column after losing his previous two starts. In the new year, Varlamov is a respectable 8-5-0, with a GAA of 2.72 and a save percentage of .919. If he can manage to string together some wins, the 27-year-old might be worth a look.

Avalanche's Semyon Varlamov: Will start Thursday

Varlamov will be between the pipes for Thursday's matchup against the Senators, Terry Frei of The Denver Post reports. Varlamov has been the definition of streaky lately, allowing a 3.69 goals-against average with a save percentage of .896 in his last two starts while turning in a 0.99 GAA and a .972 save percentage in four starts leading up to the All-Star game. He'll look to turn things around against a Senators team that is averaging 2.80 goals per game this season and is a risky play until he can show some consistency.

Avalanche's Semyon Varlamov: Less than stellar in loss

Varlamov allowed three goals on 28 shots in a 3-1 loss to the Canucks on Tuesday. Despite going up against one of the lower scoring teams in the league, Varlamov was not able to come through for his team and has now lost two straight. He's surrendered at least three goals in each loss. While he did win his previous four starts before the current losing streak, he's just 4-4-0 in his last eight starts. Think twice before starting Varlamov until he can put together a more consistent string of games.

Avalanche's Semyon Varlamov: Receives starting nod Tuesday

Varlamov will tend the twine Tuesday against the Canucks. Varlamov took the loss in his last outing, giving up four goals on 39 shots against the Jets. The 27-year-old Russian netminder has compiled a 19-13-3 record this season with a .917 save percentage and 2.64 GAA. He will face a Vancouver squad that is currently on a four-game losing streak. The Canucks have potted an average of just 2.31 goals per game this season, the fifth-lowest rate in the league, so it is a decent matchup at home for Varlamov.

Avalanche's Semyon Varlamov: 35 saves not enough in return to action

Varlamov returned to action Saturday, stopping 35 of 39 shots in a loss to Winnipeg. It was the first appearance since Jan.23 for Varlamov, who lost for the first time in five games. The 27-year-old drops to 19-13-3 on the season with a solid .917 save percentage. The Avalanche are right in the playoff hunt, so look for them to rely heavily on Varlamov down the stretch.

Avalanche's Semyon Varlamov: Back at it Saturday

Varlamov (personal) will return Saturday against the Jets, per Avalanche coach Patrick Roy. Varlamov has been away from game ice since Jan. 23, due to the All-Star break and appearing in court as a defendant in a civil lawsuit stemming from a domestic issue that took place in 2013. He ended up winning the case, and with the legal issue behind him, Varlamov can focus on helping the Avs secure a spot in the postseason. As of Friday, Colorado (27-23-4) sits first in the hunt for a Wild Card spot among Western Conference teams. Varly has made 35 starts this season, at times mixing brilliant performances with complete duds leading to a 2.59 GAA and .918 save percentage in 2015-16.

Avalanche's Semyon Varlamov: Returns to practice Wednesday

Varlamov returned to practice Wednesday after his civil court case concluded Tuesday, Mike Chambers of The Denver Post reports. Varlamov's legal woes may finally be in the rearview mirror after successfully defending himself in a lawsuit brought against him by a former girlfriend that stems from a domestic dispute in 2013. The court case kept the goalie out of action for over a week but he was able to return to the ice on Wednesday and will backup Calvin Pickard for Thursday's game against the Stars. He will most likely be back in net for Saturday's matchup against the Jets.
