Oilers' Teddy Purcell: Scores fourth goal in loss

Purcell scored his fourth goal of the season, had an assist and fired six shots on goal in Saturday's loss to the Kings. Purcell has been producing of late, notching two goals and four points in his last four games. He logged 21:42 of ice time Saturday and is capable of being a difference maker when his minutes aren't being reduced. Purcell, who notched 65 points in 2011-12, now has eight points in 18 games on the season. He's a solid offensive contributor, but don't expect anything spectacular.

Oilers' Teddy Purcell: Nets two points in loss

Purcell scored his second goal of the season and had an assist in Saturday's loss to Calgary. Purcell only has four points in 12 games this season skating in a third-line role. The 30-year-old can produce some offense in a bottom-six role, but his minus-8 rating certainly isn't appealing to fantasy goers. Considering he's basically scored 12 goals in each of his last three seasons, you pretty much know what you're getting with him.

Oilers' Teddy Purcell: Producing minimally early on

Purcell has a goal and an assist on 20 shots with a minus-4 rating while averaging 16:02 of ice time over nine games so far this year. He's seeing almost three minutes a game on the power play, but hasn't produced anything on that front. While the shot rate is still there, Purcell's offensive production has been in decline for the last several seasons. With the potential for his ice time to decline upon the nearing return of Jordan Eberle (shoulder), things might not get a whole lot better.

    • Will play Thursday

News: Teddy Purcell will suit up for Thursday's exhibition against the Canucks.
Analysis: Teddy Purcell has been sidelined with a "minor injury" since Sept. 22, so it's encouraging to see that he will finally make his return to game action Thursday against Vancouver. The Oilers have two remaining preseason contests, which should serve as an opportunity for Purcell to shake off any rust he may have gathered during his absence.
    • Skates On Tuesday

News: Teddy Purcell skated on Tuesday, Tom Gazzola of Oilers TV reports.
Analysis: It remains to be seen if Teddy Purcell will be able to suit up for either of the Oilers' final two preseason contests, the first of which is scheduled for Tuesday night against the Coyotes. Either way, Purcell is reportedly a pretty safe bet to secure an Opening Night roster spot with Edmonton, however, it would undoubtedly be beneficial for the veteran winger to get a chance to shake off some rust in at least one of the team's final two exhibitions.
    • Oilers' Purcell Misses Practice Again

News: Teddy Purcell did not practice Monday, Jack Michaels of the Oilers Radio Network reports.
Analysis: Teddy Purcell has been held out of action for almost a week now, which is a particularly unfortunate turn of events for the 30-year-old winger, as he had been given the chance to skate on the Oilers' top line with Connor McDavid before going down with the injury. He's probably a safe bet to make the 23-man roster, but he'll want to return to action as soon as possible in order to cement his role with the team.
    • Oilers' Purcell Pots Goal In Loss

News: Teddy Purcell netted a goal in Thursday's 8-2 loss to the Kings.
Analysis: The Oilers were whipped handily in this one, but Teddy Purcell at least managed to come away with his third point in four games. While Purcell's scoring totals haven't tailed off dramatically from his 2013-14 output, the winger's minus-29 rating essentially negates most of the value he'd have in any fantasy format.
    • Oilers' Purcell Breaks Skid

News: Teddy Purcell recorded a power-play assist in Monday's win over the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: Teddy Purcell had been held off the score sheet over the previous five games, going minus-4 during that stretch. The move from Tampa Bay to Edmonton this season has been predictably toxic for Purcell, who is one pace to finish with fewer points and a sizable decline in his plus/minus rating from a year earlier.
    • Oilers' Purcell Gets Goal

News: Teddy Purcell scored the Oilers' only goal in a 2-1 loss to the Ducks on Saturday night.
Analysis: He's actually luke warm right now -- he has five points in his last eight games. But we're not ready to say snag him. He plays for the Oilers after all and the offensive promise he showed while with the Bolts is all but gone.
    • Goal, Assist For Oilers' Purcell

News: Teddy Purcell potted his eighth goal of the season and added an assist in Wednesday's 4-3 shootout triumph over the visiting Bruins.
Analysis: He also finished with an even rating in the game, something that only bears mentioning because of his ghastly minus-25 this year, which -- as a bit of trivia -- is technically the 818th worst among 825 players this season. Nonetheless, Teddy Purcell has 26 points in 59 contests in his first year with the Oilers, and it's clear that life in Alberta hasn't been quite as nice as it was in Tampa, where he put up 51 and 65 points in his first two seasons with the Lightning.
