  • Ducks Release Vishnevski

News: Vitaly Vishnevski was released from his professional tryout contract with the Ducks on Monday, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Vitaly Vishnevski didn't appear in a preseason contest in his time in Anaheim, so the move doesn't come as much of a surprise. The 35-year-old will now look to sign an AHL contract elsewhere, or return to his native Russia where he played for the previous seven seasons.
  • Devils, Vishnevski part ways

News: Free agent defenseman Vitaly Vishnevski signed a contract with Lokomotiv Yaroslavl of the Kontinental Hockey League (Russia). He signed with the Russian club after he was put on waivers by the Devils.
Analysis: The Devils said Vishnevski, who has two years left on a three-year contract, wanted to go to Russia for personal reasons, so the team obliged by putting him on waivers. Vishnevski has two goals, seven points and 50 penalty minutes in 69 games with the Devils last season. He eventually fell out of favor with head coach Brent Sutter, so it's no surprise the two parties parted ways. It's safe to ignore Vishnevski in Fantasy.
  • Vishnevski able to play Monday

News: Vitaly Vishnevski (undisclosed) had one shot on goal at Washington on Monday.
Analysis: Vishnevski has just two points this season and was held off the stat sheet in his previous 16 games before Friday's goal. The Devils like him for his physical presence and that's pretty much it. He has little to no Fantasy value at this time, especially with an undisclosed injury.
  • Vishnevski sits out Sunday

News: D Vitaly Vishnevski had his first Devils goal Friday night, but he didn't dress Sunday, apparently because of an injury.
Analysis: Vishnevski has just two points this season and was held off the stat sheet in his previous 16 games before Friday. The Devils like him for his physical presence and that's pretty much it. He has little to no Fantasy value at this time, especially with an undisclosed injury.
  • Vishnevski scores first goal

News: Vitaly Vishnevski and Dainius Zubrus scored 4:15 apart in the first period, and the New Jersey Devils won their ninth straight game by beating the Washington Capitals 3-2 on Friday night. Vishnevski finished the game at plus-2.
Analysis: Vishnevski has just two points this season and was held off the stat sheet in his previous 16 games before Friday. The Devils like him for his physical presence and that's pretty much it. He has little to no Fantasy value at this time.
  • Devils sign physical Vishnevski

News: Defenseman Vitaly Vishnevski signed a one-year contract Tuesday to play next year for the New Jersey Devils. "Vitaly Vishnevski is a defenseman who brings a physical presence to our hockey team," Devils president Lou Lamoriello said. "He has both size and experience, and we feel he can play our type of hockey."
Analysis: Vishnevski split last season between Atlanta (52 games) and Nashville (15), recording three goals and 10 assists. He was acquired by the Predators in a trade for center Eric Belanger on Feb. 10. Vishnevski has 14 goals and 47 assists in 483 career regular-season games. He was Anaheim's first selection, fifth overall, in the 1998 NHL draft. His Fantasy appeal will once again be limited to the deepest of leagues which reward penalty minutes in 2007-08.
  • Vishnevski traded to Predators

News: In a deal between first-place teams, the Atlanta Thrashers traded defenseman Vitaly Vishnevski to the Nashville Predators for center Eric Belanger on Saturday.
Analysis: The 26-year-old Vishnevski was in his first season with the Thrashers after being acquired from Anaheim. He had three goals, nine assists and 31 penalty minutes in 52 games, but the Thrashers felt they could trade a defenseman with seven regulars at the position. Vishnevski is not much of a Fantasy option at this time, but perhaps he might get a jump start with the Predators.
  • Vishnevski a healthy scratch

News: Vitaly Vishnevski was a healthy scratch in Thursday's game against the Islanders.
Analysis: Expect that quite frequently now, as coach Bob Hartley uses Andy Sutton now that he is back from injury. Vishnevski is simply the odd-man out until injuries open up a space.
  • Vishnevski scoreless Friday

News: Vitaly Vishnevski was scoreless with four blocked shot in 22:45 of ice time in Friday's loss at New Jersey.
Analysis: Vishnevski is only worth Fantasy consideration in the largest of formats at this time.
  • Vishnevski scoreless in 16

News: Vitaly Vishnevski is scoreless in his past 16 games, last appearing on the scoresheet on Nov. 3 at Washington.
Analysis: Vishnevski is not worth using in any pools right now, as he is way more valuable to his real team than to owners in Fantasy Hockey.
