Blues' Martin Havlat: Making season debut Tuesday

Havlat will make his season debut Tuesday against New Jersey, Lou Korac of reports. Havlat signed with the Blues on November 6, and will be making his debut just four days later against the team he suited up for in 2014-15, the New Jersey Devils. Havlat struggled in New Jersey, playing only 40 games and scoring 14 points. Havlat is slated to play on a line with David Backes and Robby Fabbri, which may lead to Havlat's indisputable offensive abilities reemerging in St. Louis.

Blues' Martin Havlat: Signs one-year, two-way deal with STL

Havlat has signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Blues, Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports, adding that the contract is valued at $600,000 in the NHL and $200,000 in the AHL. Havlat came into the picture for St. Louis on Oct. 27, when he was inked to a professional tryout contract following a significant ankle injury to winger Jaden Schwartz. The Blues also brought on Dainius Zubrus for a PTO at that time, but he's reportedly been released. Havlat adds a veteran scoring presence to a Blues team that has been slammed with injuries early on this campaign. Ironically, Havlat has sustained a long list of injuries over the course of his career and he's never played all 82 games in a given season despite 14 years of service time between five different clubs, including the Devils in 2014-15.

Martin Havlat: Invited to PTO by Blues

Havlat has been invited by the Blues to a professional tryout contract. Havlat has 14 years of service time in the NHL. He last played with the Devils last season, adding five goals and nine assists in 40 games. With a number of Blues forwards dealing with injuries, including winger Jaden Schwartz, who is out at least 12 weeks following ankle surgery, the team is looking at ways to add some healthy bodies to the roster. The report adds that Dainius Zubrus has also been invited to a PTO for St. Louis.

    • Will not sign with Panthers

News: Martin Havlat will not sign with the Panthers, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Martin Havlat wasn't able to find a spot on one of the Panthers' top-three lines, and isn't really suited for fourth-line duties, which means the veteran winger will have to keep looking for a new home if he plans on suiting up for an NHL team early on in the 2015-16 campaign. Havlat did, however, recently purchase a home in Florida, which means the Panthers could offer him a contract at some point down the road if and when injuries strike. The 34-year-old tallied 14 points (five goals, nine assists) in 40 games with the Devils last season.
    • Panthers Sign Havlat To PTO

News: Martin Havlat signed a professional tryout contract with the Panthers on Friday.
Analysis: The 34-year-old skated with the Devils last season, potting five goals and adding nine assists in 40 games. The winger often found himself a healthy scratch after the All-Star break, but perhaps the change of scenery could allow him to resurface as a regular bottom-six forward. His chances of making the Panthers' roster will likely hinge on how the team's young forwards perform during camp.
    • New Jersey's Havlat To Sit

News: Martin Havlat is slated to be a scratch Tuesday against the Sabres, according to Tom Gulitti of The Record.
Analysis: With Stephen Gionta set to return to the New Jersey lineup, Martin Havlat -- who has notched 14 points in 37 games -- will take a seat on Tuesday night.
    • Devils' Havlat Gets Point In Third Straight

News: Martin Havlat racked up an assist and three shots on goal in Monday's win over the Sharks.
Analysis: Martin Havlat has notched a point in three straight games, which qualifies as his longest stretch of production on the season. With just 12 points, a minus-10 rating, and seemingly, a litany of injury concerns, Havlat isn't someone worth investing heavily in.
    • Devils' Havlat (Illness) To Be Available Thursday

News: Martin Havlat (illness) will be available for Thursday's game against the Bruins, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: An illness forced Martin Havlat out of Tuesday's game with the Sabres, but he showed enough improvement Wednesday morning to get in a skate on his own. That proved to be sufficient for the Devils to sign off on his return, so look for him to slot back into the lineup after the brief absence. Havlat has three goals and nine points in 24 games this season.
    • Devils' Havlat Out Tuesday

News: Martin Havlat (illness) will not play Tuesday against the Sabres, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: While Martin Havlat will sit out Tuesday, that may be the extent of his absence, as he was at least able to skate on his own Tuesday. If he can practice Wednesday as expected and avoid any setbacks over the next couple days, he should be on track to return for New Jersey's next game Thursday.
