• Will not sign with Panthers

News: Martin Havlat will not sign with the Panthers, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Martin Havlat wasn't able to find a spot on one of the Panthers' top-three lines, and isn't really suited for fourth-line duties, which means the veteran winger will have to keep looking for a new home if he plans on suiting up for an NHL team early on in the 2015-16 campaign. Havlat did, however, recently purchase a home in Florida, which means the Panthers could offer him a contract at some point down the road if and when injuries strike. The 34-year-old tallied 14 points (five goals, nine assists) in 40 games with the Devils last season.
  • Panthers Sign Havlat To PTO

News: Martin Havlat signed a professional tryout contract with the Panthers on Friday.
Analysis: The 34-year-old skated with the Devils last season, potting five goals and adding nine assists in 40 games. The winger often found himself a healthy scratch after the All-Star break, but perhaps the change of scenery could allow him to resurface as a regular bottom-six forward. His chances of making the Panthers' roster will likely hinge on how the team's young forwards perform during camp.
  • New Jersey's Havlat To Sit

News: Martin Havlat is slated to be a scratch Tuesday against the Sabres, according to Tom Gulitti of The Record.
Analysis: With Stephen Gionta set to return to the New Jersey lineup, Martin Havlat -- who has notched 14 points in 37 games -- will take a seat on Tuesday night.
  • Devils' Havlat Gets Point In Third Straight

News: Martin Havlat racked up an assist and three shots on goal in Monday's win over the Sharks.
Analysis: Martin Havlat has notched a point in three straight games, which qualifies as his longest stretch of production on the season. With just 12 points, a minus-10 rating, and seemingly, a litany of injury concerns, Havlat isn't someone worth investing heavily in.
  • Devils' Havlat (Illness) To Be Available Thursday

News: Martin Havlat (illness) will be available for Thursday's game against the Bruins, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: An illness forced Martin Havlat out of Tuesday's game with the Sabres, but he showed enough improvement Wednesday morning to get in a skate on his own. That proved to be sufficient for the Devils to sign off on his return, so look for him to slot back into the lineup after the brief absence. Havlat has three goals and nine points in 24 games this season.
  • Devils' Havlat Out Tuesday

News: Martin Havlat (illness) will not play Tuesday against the Sabres, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: While Martin Havlat will sit out Tuesday, that may be the extent of his absence, as he was at least able to skate on his own Tuesday. If he can practice Wednesday as expected and avoid any setbacks over the next couple days, he should be on track to return for New Jersey's next game Thursday.
  • Devils' Havlat Misses Morning Skate

News: Martin Havlat (illness) did not join the team for it's morning skate on Tuesday, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Martin Havlat has been confirmed to have the flu, but there was still a possibility that he'd be able to return for Tuesday's contest against the Sabres. At this point, that appears unlikely, but he could return to action for Thursday's game against the Bruins.
  • Devils' Havlat Has Illness Recurrence Monday

News: Martin Havlat had a recurrence of his flu overnight and didn't practice Monday, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Martin Havlat's initial illness has now been confirmed as the flu, and it appears his status for Tuesday's game against the Sabres could be up in the air due to the recurrence. The team should provide an update on his status prior to the opening faceoff, however. If he is unable to go, his next chance to play will be Thursday against the Bruins.
  • Devils' Havlat (Illness) Set To Play Friday

News: Martin Havlat (illness) will be activated from IR and return to the lineup Friday against the Canadiens, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Martin Havlat was unavailable for over a week with the illness, though he was never officially diagnosed with the mumps virus that had afflicted several other players on the team. He resumed practicing Tuesday and took part in line rushes during Friday's morning skate, so it would seem reasonable to expect Havlat to see close to his usual 14 minutes of action.
  • Devils' Havlat Not Ready To Play Wednesday

News: Martin Havlat (illness) will not return to the lineup Wednesday against the Red Wings, Rich Chere of the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: There was some optimism that Martin Havlat would slot back into the lineup after he was able to log a full practice Tuesday, but the Devils decided he could benefit from a little extra time to regain stamina. He'll have strong odds of returning to action over the weekend, when the Devils will host back-to-back games against the Canadiens and Flyers.
