Predators' Barret Jackman: Providing little offense for Preds this season

Jackman enters the All-Star break with just three points in 49 games this season. Jackman registered exactly 15 points in each of the previous two seasons, but will be lucky to reach double-digits this year given his current pace. In truth, with guys like Shea Weber and Roman Josi patrolling the Preds' blue line, the team really doesn't need him to add much by way of offense anyway. Other than his team-leading 60 PIM, Jackman doesn't rank particularly well in any peripheral stat category, giving him marginal value at best in most fantasy formats.

Predators' Barret Jackman: Avoids injury scare

Jackman left Monday's game against the Rangers briefly in the second period after taking a puck to the knee, Adam Vingan of The Tennessean reports. Jackman was visibly in considerable pain following the shot, hobbling around the ice as he finished his shift. Fortunately, he returned to the game later in the third period, and finished with a respectable 18:14 in ice time. Jackman has just two points in 35 games so far this season, rendering him pretty much useless in all but the deepest of fantasy formats.

Predators' Barret Jackman: Saturday night's alright for fighting

Jackman received a fighting major and a game misconduct during Saturday's 7-0 rout of the Jets. He saw just 7:55 of ice time but was a plus-2 and had 15 PIM. It's an odd-looking stat line for Jackman, who plays a physical game but usually shows enough discipline to say out of penalty trouble. For example, he had just 47 PIM all of last season, but he's already up to 26 after Saturday's scrappy affair with the Jets. Consider it a nice little bonus for the handful of you out there who own him - it won't happen often.

Predators' Barret Jackman: Will play Thursday against Nashville

Jackman (upper body) will return to the Predators' lineup for Thursday's tilt against the Ducks, Adam Vingan of The Tennessean reports. Jackman was forced to miss Tuesday's matchup with the Lightning with the upper-body injury, but is now apparently healthy enough to re-join Nashville's lineup Thursday against Anaheim. The 34-year-old veteran defender has yet to register a point this season, but enters Thursday's contest with a plus-3 rating.

Predators' Barret Jackman: Day-to-day with upper-body injury

Jackman missed Tuesday's game against Tampa Bay with an upper-body injury, Adam Vingan of the Tennessean reports. The 34-year-old Jackman is normally about as durable as they come - Tuesday marked just the ninth NHL game he's missed since the 2011-12 season - so this could actually be something serious. Mark him down as day-to-day for now, but the situation is worth monitoring. Check back for Jackman's official status prior to the Preds' net game - Thursday against the Ducks.

  • Returns to action

News: Barret Jackman (elbow) returned to the ice Tuesday, recording a goal in 13:14 of ice time in a loss to the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: Barret Jackman was dealing with a minor elbow injury that he sustained earlier in training camp but he appears to have put that behind him based on his output Tuesday. He's a veteran defenseman who has recorded 15 points in each of the last two seasons.
  • Preds Sign Jackman To Two-Year Deal

News: Barret Jackman signed a two-year, $4 million contract with the Predators on Wednesday, Adam Vingan of The Tennessean reports.
Analysis: After 12 years in St. Louis, Barret Jackman will join another franchise for the first time in his career. As was the case during his final few seasons with the Blues, Jackman will be suiting up for one of the league's deeper defensemen ranks, as he'll join a Predators roster that includes All-Stars Shea Weber and Roman Josi and promising youngsters Ryan Ellis and Seth Jones. Those four players figure to shoulder most of the offensive burden from the blue line, leaving Jackman to do what he does best -- agitating opposing forwards and providing sound decision-making in front of his own net.
  • Blues' Jackman Likely A Scratch

News: Barret Jackman will likely be a healthy scratch for Tuesday's game against the , Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Robert Bortuzzo was surprisingly paired with Petteri Lindbohm on the third line at Tuesday's morning skate, indicating that Barret Jackman will miss a game for the first time this season. It may just be that the Blues want their 34-year-old blueliner to get a rest.
  • Blues' Jackman Picks up Assist In Loss

News: Barret Jackman picked up an assist Saturday in a 4-2 loss to the Penguins. He was minus-1, took one shot, and registered two hits and a blocked shot in the contest.
Analysis: This was Barret Jackman's first point in over a month. He contributes value with his defensive play, especially blocked shots where he ranks right around 50th in the NHL.
  • Jackman's Two Points Help Blues Tuesday

News: Barret Jackman collected a pair of assists in Tuesday's win over the Oilers.
Analysis: He's not known as an offensive contributor, but for what it's worth, Barret Jackman's 12 points in 43 games put him on pace to hit 20 for the first time since the 2008-09 season. His fantasy value, such as it is, stems from his contributions in PIM and blocked shots.
