• Panthers' MacKenzie Adds Point In Win

News: Derek MacKenzie picked up an assist in Saturday night's 2-0 win over the Hurricanes.
Analysis: That's now two games in a row with a point for Derek MacKenzie. He also posted a plus-1 plus/minus, his first positive performance in that category since Feb. 28 when he had two points. Two games in a row doesn't constitute a hot streak, particularly for someone who has only scored 10 points all season (five goals, five assists); however, this is certainly a step in the right direction and he is seeing increased ice time as a result of it.
  • Panthers' MacKenzie Scores Fifth Goal Of Season

News: Derek MacKenzie scored his fifth goal of the season while receiving more ice time (13:26) than he has since Feb. 3 in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Jets.
Analysis: The fourth line center has never really been a big source of points, but the 31-year-old still found a way to score one of the nicer goals of the season against the Jets. Derek MacKenzie has five goals and five assists on the season while sporting a minus-16 plus/minus. With limited scoring ability and a woeful plus/minus, MacKenzie should only be considered in the deepest leagues.
  • Panthers' MacKenzie Scores Two Points In Win

News: Derek MacKenzie had the assist on the game winning goal and added the insurance goal in the closing minute of the Panthers' 5-3 win over the Sabres on Saturday.
Analysis: This was Derek MacKenzie's first multi-point game of the season and his first point since Jan. 11 and first goal of 2015. The 33-year-old is a valuable piece of the Panthers depth, but he's not a huge point scorer, doesn't rack up a ton of penalty minutes and is only seeing about 12 minutes of ice time a night. MacKenzie has limited fantasy value unless he can continue scoring points on a nightly basis.
  • Panthers' MacKenzie Takes Four Shots Against Blues

News: Derek MacKenzie took four shots on goal in Sunday's 2-1 shootout loss to the Blues. He also picked up two penalty minutes while posting a minus-1.
Analysis: With just one point in his last 22 games, Derek MacKenzie doesn't provide much value to fantasy owners. He owns the best faceoff percentage of the Panthers' regular centers at 53.6 percent, but winning draws alone won't be enough to justify stashing him in most formats.
  • Panthers' MacKenzie Goes Minus-3 In Defeat

News: Derek MacKenzie won just two of his 16 faceoffs and finished with a minus-3 rating in Tuesday's loss to the Jets.
Analysis: If Derek MacKenzie isn't winning faceoffs or providing hits, he doesn't offer much value otherwise. The fourth-liner has just seven points and a minus-9 rating over 41 games this season.
  • Panthers' MacKenzie Scores Rare Goal

News: Derek MacKenzie picked up his third goal of the season -- Florida's lone regulation tally -- and scored one of the team's six shootout goals in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Capitals.
Analysis: A nice offensive performance for a guy who's usually known for his toughness, as the marker was his first point since Nov. 11. McKenzie also delivered another five hits, giving him 93 to go with his five points in 29 games on the year.
  • Panthers' MacKenzie Set To Play Wednesday

News: Derek MacKenzie (illness) looks ready to play Wednesday against the Hurricanes, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Scottie Upshall (lower body), Jimmy Hayes and Colby Robak are expected to serve as the scratches for the Panthers on Wednesday, ushering Derek MacKenzie into the lineup after he missed Tuesday's practice with the flu. The fourth-liner has four points and a minus-7 rating through 19 games.
  • Panthers' MacKenzie Dealing With Flu

News: Derek MacKenzie sat out Tuesday's practice due to a bout with the flu, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Derek MacKenzie showed up for Tuesday's practice, but he was sent home due to the illness. His status for the Panthers' next game Wednesday will be determined sometime on game day.
  • Panthers' MacKenzie Continues To Struggle

News: Derek MacKenzie has scored only one goal in the month of November giving him a total of four points (2G,2A) this season.
Analysis: Derek MacKenzie was never brought in to produce points, but rather center a hard working 4th line. He has had some success in the face-off circle this year, winning 51.5%. He has a minus-7 rating while averaging 13:39 minutes of ice time per game. MacKenzie is heavily relied upon on the first penalty kill unit so you may get lucky and have him chip in a couple special teams points, but other than that he is not a great fantasy option in any format.
  • MacKenzie Provides Lone Goal For Panthers In Loss

News: Derek MacKenzie scored a power-play goal in a 5-1 defeat at the hands of the Devils on Saturday.
Analysis: The center tipped a pass from Scottie Upshall past goalie Cory Schneider for the score, but it was largely inconsequential, as the Devils had already raced out to a 5-0 lead. Derek MacKenzie has come away with a point in both of the Panthers' games, but his career-best 23 points in a full season suggests that the fourth-liner's production will taper off.
