  • Upset Hlavac bolts for Sweden

News: The Tennessean reports that free agent forward Jan Hlavac signed a deal with Linkoping of the Swedish Elite League instead of returning to the Predators in 2008-09. The Predators did make a one-year offer to Hlavac, but the forward rejected it as he thought he deserved more after totaling 13 points in 18 games with Nashville after he he acquired in a deadline deal from Tampa Bay. "It was hard for us to understand," Hlavac's agent Ritchie Winter said. "Jan was prepared to take less money to come back than to sign (in Sweden). But the Predators never really got anywhere close to the kind of offer you'd expect for a player that's accomplished what he has. It's too bad because it really looked like he had good chemistry with the coaches and players there."
Analysis: In all, Hlavac had 12 goals, 23 assists and a minus-1 rating in 80 games last season. He has 224 points (90 goals) in 436 career games. Hlavac hasn't really performed up to par after totaling a career-high 64 points in 2000-01 with the Rangers and was nothing more than a low-end Fantasy forward.
  • Hlavac scores in two straight games

News: Jan Hlavac and Radek Bonk scored on consecutive shots in the second period and the Nashville Predators mastered the Blue Jackets again with a 2-0 win on Friday night. Nashville is 15-0-1 in its last 16 meetings with Columbus, matching the longest current points streak for one team against another. That's 31 of a possible 32 points head-to-head the past two seasons.
Analysis: Hlavac scored for the second straight game after not getting any goals in 11 games. He has minimal value in super-deep leagues.
  • Hlavac scores in Nashville debut

News: Jan Hlavac, making his debut after being acquired Tuesday in a trade with Tampa Bay, scored one of the Predators four goals in the 8-4 loss to the Sabres. Hlavac reached the 10-goal mark for the season.
Analysis: Hlavac made his NHL debut in the 1999-2000 season with the New York Rangers and has also played for Philadelphia, Vancouver and Carolina. After scoring 64 points four seasons ago, Hlavac has averaged about 26 points a season since. He has minimal value in super-deep leagues, no matter where he plays.
  • Lightning send Hlavac to Nashville

News: The Tampa Bay Lightning sent LW Jan Hlavac to the Nashville Predators on Tuesday for a seventh-round pick. Hlavac had nine goals and 13 assists for Tampa Bay this season. Hlavac will join the team in Buffalo on Wednesday against the Sabres.

  • Hlavac's goal surges Tampa to win

News: Lightning LW Jan Hlavac scored a goal and finished at plus-1 during Thursday's 5-3 win against the Flyers. Hlavac's eighth goal of the season midway through the second put Tampa Bay ahead for good, 3-2. It was his first goal since Jan. 12.
Analysis: The Lightning have bounced Hlavac all over the place this season and he is seeing about 15 minutes per game. It seems as though that 64-point season he had with the Rangers in 2000-01 was just a fluke. He has little to no Fantasy value at this time.
  • Hlavac rounds up 11th assist

News: Lightning LW Jan Hlavac tallied an assist and finished at plus-1 during Tuesday's game against the Canadiens. It was his 11th assist of the season and second in six games.

  • Hlavac getting more involved

News: Lightning LW Jan Hlavac had only 11 points in his first 39 games this season, but now has four in his last six after scoring his seventh goal of the season Saturday in a 5-3 win over the Panthers. Jason Ward's shot from the right circle looked like it would miss the net as it went past Tomas Vokoun's outstretched glove. Hlavac stopped the puck with his skate in front then redirected it into the net at 2:00 to give the Lightning a 2-1 lead.
Analysis: Hlavac is only owned in three percent of leagues, and for good reason. He is a very rare contributor on offense and doesn't get a huge amount of penalty minutes. Ignore him for now.
  • Hlavac picks up assist Tuesday

News: Lightning LW Jan Hlavac tallied an assist and finished at plus-1 during Tuesday's game against the Maple Leafs. He now has a goal, an assist and a plus-3 rating in his last three games.
Analysis: Hlavac has been dropped to the Lightning's checking line and hasn't had the same scoring touch he had earlier in his career after playing the last few seasons in Europe. He is nothing more than a low-end Fantasy reserve at this time.
  • Hlavac scores fourth goal

News: Jan Hlavac scored a goal, his fourth, for the second successive game against Tampa Bay Monday to tie it at 1 at the 13:55 mark of the second. Hlavac was brought to the Lightning to provide offense. In the early part of this season, it's been slow going for the 31-year old Czech Republic native. Hlavac, who spent the previous three seasons playing in Europe, has four goals and four assists in the first 20 games, including just four points in his past 12 games including Monday. But he appears to be on the verge of breaking through with three goals in the past six games.
Analysis: Hlavac has played all season primarily with Brad Richards on the second line, and that line has struggled to give the Lightning a second scoring threat at even strength behind Vinny Lecavalier's line. While the chances have been coming in droves at times, the puck has been bouncing off his stick, shots have been going wide or goaltenders have been coming up with great saves. The general feeling is that as long as Hlavac, who scored 48 goals in his first two seasons in the NHL, doesn't give in to the frustration, his goals will come. "What Janny has to do is believe that he can score goals at this level again," Lightning coach John Tortorella said. "He's done it before." He is a decent points contributor, but is nothing more than a low-end Fantasy option.
  • Hlavac buries one in back of net

News: Lightning LW Jan Hlavac scored a goal and finished at plus-1 during Friday's game against the Capitals. He took four shots in the game. Hlavac has two goals and one assist in his last five games.
Analysis: Hlavac is with his fourth team in seven seasons. He is a decent points contributor, but is nothing more than a low-end Fantasy option.
