Capitals' Jay Beagle: Undergoes hand surgery; out at least six weeks

Beagle (hand) had successful hand surgery Saturday and is expected to resume "full hockey activities" in six weeks. Beagle sustained the injury late in the second period of Thursday's win over the Sabres and is expected to resume off ice workouts some time next week. The Capitals will miss the Calgary native's defensive prowess, as well as his timely offensive contributions that had him on pace for a career year prior to the injury. Zach Sill figures to remain in the lineup for the time being, although the coaching staff will likely rotate players in from AHL Hershey to try and fill the void.

Capitals' Jay Beagle: Placed on injured reserve

Beagle (upper body) was placed on injured reserve on Thursday, Isabelle Khurshudyan of the Washington Post reports. Beagle suffered an upper body injury that was immediately expected to keep him out "an extended period of time," so his placement on IR means that he'll miss at least a week of action. The club recalled Aaron Ness in a corresponding move Thursday.

Capitals' Jay Beagle: Out an extended period

Beagle (upper body) will be out "an extended period of time," CSN Mid-Atlantic reports. Beagle does not do much in the goal or assist departments, but the Capitals will be without their dependable third-line center for at least a few weeks due to the upper body injury he suffered in Wednesday's game.

Capitals' Jay Beagle: Exits Wednesday's game with injury

Beagle (upper body) has been ruled out of the remainder of Wednesday's game against the Sabres. The exact nature and severity of Beagle's ailment remains unclear, but its apparently serious enough to hold the 30-year-old forward out of the remainder of Wednesday's tilt. Beagle will be re-evaluated prior to Thursday's matchup with Carolina, but his status for that contest is in serious doubt at this juncture.

Capitals' Jay Beagle: Pots game-winning goal Saturday

Beagle scored the go-ahead goal in Saturday's 3-1 over Montreal. With two goals and two assists in his last seven games, the defensive specialist is providing some offensive punch in recent games, with Beagle anchoring a solid checking line alongside Jason Chimera and Tom Wilson. Although his offensive contributions likely won't outstrip his worth one of Washington's defensive aces, the Calgary native is on pace for another banner season in DC.

Capitals' Jay Beagle: Nets goal Saturday

Beagle scored the opening goal in Saturday's 2-1 win over the Lightning. Beagle continues to build on last season's success, and already has eight points in 28 games despite a largely defensive role on the third line. However, his fantasy value remains confined to deeper leagues.

    Capitals' Jay Beagle: Playing Tuesday

Beagle (undisclosed) took part in line rushes in pregame warmups, indicating he will draw into Washington's lineup for Tuesday's tilt against the Red Wings, Isabelle Khurshudyan of the Washington Post reports. Beagle reportedly aggravated an old injury during Tuesday's morning skate, but the ding apparently isn't serious enough to hold the 30-year-old forward out of Tuesday's matchup with Detroit. Beagle is expected to center the Capitals third line in Tuesday's game.

Capitals' Jay Beagle: Game-time decision Tuesday

Beagle (undisclosed) will be a game-time decision for Tuesday's tilt against the Red Wings, Isabelle Khurshudyan reports. Beagle reportedly aggravated an old injury during morning skate, and is now in danger of missing Tuesday's matchup with Detroit as a result. His availability for the contest should be confirmed prior to puck drop Tuesday night.

  • Scores goal Sunday

News: Jay Beagle scored a goal during Sunday's 6-2 win over the Islanders.
Analysis: Re-signed to a three-year, $5.25 million contract in June, Jay Beagle is set to anchor the third line between Jason Chimera and Tom Wilson. While the increased ice time should benefit his offensive production, Beagle is more of a defensive specialist and may move around in Washington's bottom six this season, and therefore is not likely to generate enough offense to be fantasy relevant outside of the deepest leagues.
