Kings' Alec Martinez: Records two points in Kings win

Martinez picked up a goal and an assist for the Kings in a 6-2 win Tuesday. Martinez had gone cold in January with just two points in 12 games but picked up a pair of points on the powerplay on Tuesday and has 18 points (six goals, 12 assists) on the season.

Kings' Alec Martinez: Fills stat sheet in OT win

Martinez loaded up on stats Tuesday in Columbus, posting a goal on a game-high seven shots, an assist, a plus-2 rating, four hits and four blocks en route to an overtime win. After five straight games out of the point column, Martinez got back on the horse in a big way. We've seen plenty of flashes of his talent, but the fact that Martinez has never played a full NHL season has held him back stat-wise. If he can stay healthy, he should easily beat out the 22 points he managed each of the last two years, but Martinez's fantasy value remains limited to deeper formats even so.

    Kings' Alec Martinez: Scores game-winner

Martinez scored the game-winning tally Monday against the Panthers. Martinez got off to a slow start in the point department but has heated up lately, tallying points in three of the past four games. The defenseman isn't typically a threat to light up the scoresheet though, so it's unlikely he'll be able to maintain this stretch.

  • Kings' Martinez Gets Back In Swing Of Things

News: Alec Martinez handed out two assists in just 15:09 of ice time Thursday against the Islanders.
Analysis: The blueliner's third game back went markedly better than his first two, scoresheet-wise, and it kind of seems like Alec Martinez's presence has boosted the entire Kings team, as Los Angeles has rattled off three straight road wins since the 27-year-old returned to the lineup.
  • Martinez Returns From Concussion In Kings Win

News: Alec Martinez (concussion) logged 16:23 of ice time in his first game since Feb. 7.
Analysis: Alec Martinez registered three shots on goal but didn't find the score sheet.
  • Kings' Martinez Returns To Lineup

News: Alec Martinez (concussion) will return to action Monday against New Jersey, Lisa Dillman of the LA Times reports.
Analysis: With Alec Martinez -- who has 17 points in 45 games -- back in business, Brayden McNabb and Jamie McBain will be the team's blueliner scratches Monday.
  • Kings' Martinez To Remain Out Saturday

News: Alec Martinez (concussion), who was activated from injured reserve Friday, will not play Saturday against the Canucks, Jon Rosen of LA Kings Insider reports.
Analysis: Though Alec Martinez's concussion symptoms seem to be behind him, coach Darryl Sutter was reluctant to break up his top three defensive pairings in advance of Saturday's critical Western Conference matchup. While Martinez figures to get back in the lineup during the team's road trip that begins Monday, he may struggle to find a regular role with the Kings over the remainder of the season. During Martinez's absence, the Kings acquired Andrej Sekera from the Hurricanes to restore some depth on the blue line, which now leaves the team with an influx of players at the position.
  • Kings Activate Martinez From IR

News: Alec Martinez (concussion) was activated from injured reserve Friday, Jon Rosen of LA Kings Insider reports.
Analysis: Though Alec Martinez appears to be over the concussion-like symptoms that have kept him out of the Kings' previous 18 games, it doesn't necessarily mean that he'll play Saturday against the Canucks. Martinez practiced Friday with the team as part of a fourth defensive pairing with Jamie McBain, who has served as a healthy scratch over the Kings' past several contests. With the Kings not holding a morning skate Saturday due to the afternoon start time of the game, official word on Martinez's status likely won't come until warmups. Nonetheless, his pending return should bolster the Kings' chances of claiming one of the final two wild-card spots out West. The blueliner has accumulated five goals and 17 points in 45 games, while his 79 shots on goal have already tied his career-best mark from a season ago.
  • Kings' Martinez Likely Out Wednesday

News: Alec Martinez (concussion) is not expected to play Wednesday against the Ducks, Jon Rosen of LA Kings Insider reports.
Analysis: Per the report, a possible return Saturday against Vancouver or on Monday against New Jersey remain more plausible scenarios for the looming return to action of Alec Martinez.
  • Kings' Martinez Takes Part In Battle Drills

News: Alec Martinez (concussion) participated in battle drills during Tuesday's practice, Jon Rosen of LA Kings Insider reports.
Analysis: With Alec Martinez now cleared to take contact, he might be only one or two practices away from rejoining the Kings' lineup. The blueliner has been out since Feb. 7 with concussion-like symptoms and has posted 17 points in 45 games to date this season.
