  • Wings Re-Sign McCollum

News: The Red Wings re-signed Tom McCollum to a one-year contract Wednesday, the team's official site reports.
Analysis: The 25-year-old Tom McCollum -- who saw action in two games with the big club in 2014-15 -- appeared in 37 contests for AHL Grand Rapids last season, recording a 19-11-7 record, to go along with a 2.40 goals-against average and a .916 save percentage. He'll reprise his role as a depth goalie for the Wings' organization.
  • Wings' McCollum Assigned To AHL

News: Tom McCollum was assigned to AHL Grand Rapids on Wednesday.
Analysis: Tom McCollum owns a 0.91 GAA in two appearances this season, but will return to the AHL to see more consistent reps. In a corresponding move, the Red Wings recalled Xavier Ouellet and Jonas Gustavsson from Grand Rapids.
  • Detroit's McCollum Solid In Relief

News: Tom McCollum stopped all 17 shots he faced in relief duty Thursday after Petr Mrazek was pulled in a 5-1 loss.
Analysis: Tom McCollum has been great in his two relief appearances this year, allowing one goal on 25 shots and picking up a win. He may get a shot at starting Saturday with Petr Mrazek in a mini-slump.
  • Wings' McCollum Gets Win In Relief Duty

News: Tom McCollum stopped seven of eight shots in relief of Petr Mrazek on Sunday, helping the Red Wings comeback to defeat the Sabres.
Analysis: While Tom McCollum was barely tested, he picked up his first NHL win in just his second career NHL appearance. With starter Jimmy Howard (groin) expected to return between Jan. 31 and Feb. 7 and Jonas Gustavsson (shoulder) currently sidelined, McCollum has stepped into a backup role behind Mrazek. Although Mrazek was pulled Sunday, the 22-year-old has been great this season, meaning it's unlikely McCollum sees another start before being sent down once Howard returns. Still, anything is possible, but with just two career NHL appearances, don't expect the 25-year-old McCollum to be of much fantasy value.
  • Wings Recall McCollum

News: Tom McCollum was recalled from AHL Grand Rapids on Sunday.
Analysis: Tom McCollum will take on the backup role for the Red Wings while Jimmy Howard (groin) is on injured reserve. How long he will be with the Red Wings is unclear at this point, as Howard's status rests on the result of an MRI he underwent Sunday. The resulting IR move likely came after the scan, which could indicate the injury is serious.
  • Red Wings Return McCollum To Minors

News: Tom McCollum was reassigned to AHL Grand Rapids on Saturday,'s Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: With Jimmy Howard (groin) formally activated from injured reserve and presumably ready to play Saturday against the Senators, Tom McCollum's services were no longer required. He served as the backup to Petr Mrazek during Howard's two-game absence.
  • Wings' McCollum Recalled From AHL

News: Tom McCollum was recalled from AHL Grand Rapids on Friday, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: The Red Wings brought Tom McCollum back for depth after a lower-body injury forced regular goalie Jimmy Howard from Friday's game. Howard is being labeled as just day-to-day, and Petr Mrazek would presumably get the start Sunday if Howard is unable to go.
  • Red Wings Send McCollum To Minors

News: Tom McCollum was reassigned to AHL Grand Rapids after Friday's game against the Blackhawks, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Tom McCollum's stay with the Red Wings lasted just one game, as he only was recalled from Grand Rapids for the week to allow Petr Mrazek to pick up a couple of starts in the minors. Mrazek will now assume primary backup duties for the Red Wings until Jonas Gustavsson (shoulder) returns, while McCollum serves as the starter for the minor league squad.
  • Wings Recall McCOllum

News: The Red Wings recalled Thomas McCollum from AHL Grand Rapids on Monday.
Analysis: With Jonas Gustavsson out with a groin injury and Petr Mrazek being sent down to AHL Grand Rapids, Thomas McCollum will get a chance to back up starter Jimmy Howard for the time being. McCollum has been less than stellar so far in the AHL with a 2-4-1 record and a .909 save percentage, but he'll get a chance to show his potential with the big club.
  • Red Wings Waive McCollum

News: Thomas McCollum was waived by the Red Wings on Thursday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
Analysis: Thomas McCollum has been passed up by Petr Mrazek on the Red Wings' organizational goalie depth chart, making it unlikely that the 24-year-old surfaces with the NHL club this season. His quality numbers with AHL Grand Rapids last season (2.30 GAA and .922 save percentage in 46 games) could prompt another goalie-starved team to take a cursory look at him, but he's more likely to clear waivers and report to the minors.
