Flyers' Colin McDonald: Scores in second game after call-up

McDonald tallied his first goal of the season with the Flyers on Friday in just his second game with the club. McDonald took advantage of the opportunity afforded him due to Sam Gagner's injury, and put two shots on net, and recorded three hits and five penalty minutes in the contest in 7:39 of ice time. It's unclear how long he'll remain with the club, especially with R.J. Umberger starting to close in on a return, but he'll look to do all he can to make the decision tougher. McDonald will get another chance to leave an impression Saturday as the Flyers take on the Rangers at Madison Square Garden.

Flyers' Colin McDonald: Recalled from minors Tuesday

    • Isles' McDonald Gathers Two Assists

News: Colin McDonald gathered two assists in Tuesday's 5-1 trouncing of the Coyotes.
Analysis: Colin McDonald's surprising play has turned what was expected to be a brief stay with the Islanders into a permanent deployment with the big club. Though he sees only limited minutes by virtue of assuming a bottom-six role, McDonald has piled up two goals and six assists in 10 games, while also serving as a strong source of hits.
    • Isles' McDonald Playing Effectively

News: Colin McDonald had an assist, four shots on goal, and six hits in Thursday's win over the Predators.
Analysis: After being waived by the Islanders early in the season, Colin McDonald had spent the previous four months in the minors before returning to the big club Feb. 8. Despite holding down a bottom-six role, he's been a surprising source of offense for the Isles, contributing two goals and four assists over his last seven games. Don't expect McDonald to continue to score at that clip or be much of an asset in the fantasy realm, but if nothing else, the winger appears to have at least solidified a regular spot in the Isles' lineup.
    • Isles' McDonald Earns First-Star Honors

News: Colin McDonald scored a goal for the second straight game, added an assist and dished out nine hits Tuesday in a win over Edmonton.
Analysis: Colin McDonald's had quite a surprising little offensive outburst over these last two games -- just his third and fourth at the NHL level this year. The 30-year-old has been producing in the AHL (35 points in 40 games), but his career high in the big leagues is last year's 18 points.

    • Isles Send McDonald Back To AHL

News: Colin McDonald was reassigned to AHL Bridgeport on Wednesday.
Analysis: Colin McDonald's emergency recall earlier in the day seemed to suggest an Islanders forward was dealing with an injury, but it proved to be a false alarm. It's unclear if he ever rejoined the Islanders following his latest call-up, but he'll remain on standby in the event the team needs him again.
    • Islanders Recall McDonald Again Wednesday

News: Colin McDonald was recalled from AHL Bridgeport on an emergency basis Monday.
Analysis: Colin McDonald was recalled in the same fashion Monday, but was reassigned Tuesday because the team's other forwards were all healthy enough to play. If that turns out to be the case again for Thursday's contest, then he will likely be headed back to the AHL once again.

Analysis: Colin McDonald has shuttled back and forth between Bridgeport and Long Island the last few days due to Casey Cizikas' uncertain injury status, but never managed to get in a game.
