Flames' Kevin Poulin: Out 4-6 weeks

Poulin underwent surgery to repair a dislocated knee cap Wednesday, and will be sidelined for the next 4-to-6 weeks while recovering from the procedure, Randy Sportak of the Calgary Sun reports. Poulin has appeared in four games with AHL Stockton since being acquired by the Flames on Nov. 12, posting a 2-0-1 record with a 2.40 GAA and .918 in those contests. He'll return as AHL Stockton's primary goaltender once healthy.

Flames' Kevin Poulin: Acquired by Calgary on Thursday

The Flames acquired Poulin from the Lightning in exchange for future considerations on Thursday. The Flames have been plagued by awful goaltending this season, with Karri Ramo, Jonas Hiller, and Joni Ortio all sporting goals-against averages well above 3.50 in 19 combined total appearances. While Poulin may not be the answer in net Calgary is looking for, he will at least provide the Flames with additional organizational depth at the position and another option in goal if things don't begin to improve. Poulin has played in 50 career NHL games with the Islanders, posting an 18-25-3 record with a 3.07 GAA and .899 save percentage in those contests. He will report to AHL Stockton to begin his season with the Flames organization.

Lightning's Kevin Poulin: Recalled from AHL Syracuse

Poulin has been recalled from AHL Syracuse, Erik Erlendsson of The Tampa Tribune reports. Poulin's exact role in the Tampa Bay organization is rather nebulous as he hasn't made any appearances for the Syracuse Crunch, nor has he been sent between the pipes for the Lightning this season. However, it appears that the team is viewing him as extra insurance with Ben Bishop and Andrei Vasilevskiy being the primary options in goal for the Bolts this season.

    Lightning's Kevin Poulin: Clears waiver

Poulin cleared waivers Sunday and has been assigned to AHL Syracuse, Bryan Burns of reports. Poulin was placed on waivers Saturday as the Lightning decided to turn to Kristers Gudlevskis for the backup role instead. Poulin will now return to AHL Syracuse, and should serve as the team's starting netminder.

Lightning's Kevin Poulin: Placed on waivers Saturday

The Lightning placed Poulin on waivers Saturday, Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Tampa Bay recalled Kristers Gudlevskis from AHL Syracuse on Friday, meaning the team is no longer in need of Poulin's services as a backup netminder. He will head to AHL Syracuse, where he will serve as the team's starting goaltender, at least until Andrei Vasilevskiy (neck) is healthy.

  • Earns Backup Role ... For Now

News: Kevin Poulin has made the Lightning's roster and will be the team's backup goalie, reports the Tampa Bay Tribune.
Analysis: Don't expect him to get much playing time -- Ben Bishop has carried a big load in the past and can do the same now. And Andrei Vasilevskiy could be ready to resume his backup role by early November.
  • Could make opening-night lineup

News: Kevin Poulin could make the opening-night roster, reports the Tampa Tribune.
Analysis: He has to pass through waivers to go down, so the team could keep him with the big squad until Andrei Vasilevskiy returns from injury. Fellow netminder Kristers Gudlevskis appears poised to start the season in the AHL.
  • Fighting for backup goalie gig

News: Kevin Poulin is one of only a few options fighting for a chance to back up Ben Bishop in goal for the Lightning ahead of the upcoming season, Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: Kristers Gudlevskis is reportedly the only other internal option at this point. Kevin Poulin, claimed off waivers (from the Islanders) on Sunday, is the more experienced of the two twine tenders so that could give him an advantage. Ben Bishop is locked in as the starting goalie in Tampa Bay, so this news mostly concerns the team's goalie depth at this point.
  • Poulin Re-Signs With Islanders

News: Kevin Poulin signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Islanders on Tuesday, Newsday's Arthur Staple reports.
Analysis: Kevin Poulin initially rejected the Islanders qualifying offer, but ultimately relented on Tuesday. It isn't a huge surprise, as he had little to no leverage in contract negotiations with the team, as he has played poorly when given the opportunity to start for the big club. The 25-year-old netminder went 16-21-0 with a 2.87 GAA and a .912 save percentage over 45 games with AHL Bridgeport last season. He sits behind Jaroslav Halak and Thomas Greiss on the depth chart, and will likely serve as the Islanders' primary AHL goaltender this season.
  • Isles' Poulin Rejects Qualifying Offer

News: Kevin Poulin has rejected the Islanders qualifying offer, reports Arthur Staple of Newsday.
Analysis: Kevin Poulin has little to no leverage with the Islanders as he has played poorly when called up to the big club. He now stands no better than third on the organizational depth chart with little chance of climbing much higher. He may be hoping that the Islanders will give him his release.
