• Could make opening-night lineup

News: Kevin Poulin could make the opening-night roster, reports the Tampa Tribune.
Analysis: He has to pass through waivers to go down, so the team could keep him with the big squad until Andrei Vasilevskiy returns from injury. Fellow netminder Kristers Gudlevskis appears poised to start the season in the AHL.
  • Fighting for backup goalie gig

News: Kevin Poulin is one of only a few options fighting for a chance to back up Ben Bishop in goal for the Lightning ahead of the upcoming season, Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: Kristers Gudlevskis is reportedly the only other internal option at this point. Kevin Poulin, claimed off waivers (from the Islanders) on Sunday, is the more experienced of the two twine tenders so that could give him an advantage. Ben Bishop is locked in as the starting goalie in Tampa Bay, so this news mostly concerns the team's goalie depth at this point.
  • Poulin Re-Signs With Islanders

News: Kevin Poulin signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Islanders on Tuesday, Newsday's Arthur Staple reports.
Analysis: Kevin Poulin initially rejected the Islanders qualifying offer, but ultimately relented on Tuesday. It isn't a huge surprise, as he had little to no leverage in contract negotiations with the team, as he has played poorly when given the opportunity to start for the big club. The 25-year-old netminder went 16-21-0 with a 2.87 GAA and a .912 save percentage over 45 games with AHL Bridgeport last season. He sits behind Jaroslav Halak and Thomas Greiss on the depth chart, and will likely serve as the Islanders' primary AHL goaltender this season.
  • Isles' Poulin Rejects Qualifying Offer

News: Kevin Poulin has rejected the Islanders qualifying offer, reports Arthur Staple of Newsday.
Analysis: Kevin Poulin has little to no leverage with the Islanders as he has played poorly when called up to the big club. He now stands no better than third on the organizational depth chart with little chance of climbing much higher. He may be hoping that the Islanders will give him his release.
  • Islanders Reassign Poulin

News: Kevin Poulin was reassigned to AHL Bridgeport on Monday, Andy Graziano of Islanders Insight reports.
Analysis: Kevin Poulin was recalled on an emergency basis for Saturday's regular season finale due to a Michal Neuvirth injury. It appears the issue was minor, however, as he's now been returned to the AHL.
  • Isles Recall Poulin On Emergency Basis

News: Kevin Poulin was recalled from AHL Bridgeport on an emergency basis Saturday.
Analysis: The Islanders revealed Saturday morning that Michal Neuvirth is dealing with an undisclosed injury, which will more than likely keep him unavailable for the game later in the evening against the Blue Jackets. With top netminder Jaroslav Halak having played a night earlier in Pittsburgh, it seems likely that Kevin Poulin could get the nod for the Isles' regular-season finale. Poulin made one previous start for the Islanders, stopping 23 of 26 shots in a shootout loss to the Sabres on Dec. 27. He won't make for a strong streaming option if he gets the call Saturday.
  • Isles' Poulin Reassigned To Minors

News: Kevin Poulin was reassigned to AHL Bridgeport on Thursday, NHL.com's Brian Compton reports.
Analysis: Kevin Poulin's demotion would seem to suggest that Jaroslav Halak (lower body) is at least capable of serving in a backup capacity for Saturday's game against the Devils. The 24-year-old Poulin only spent one game with the Islanders, serving as the understudy to Michal Neuvirth.
  • Isles Recall Poulin

News: Kevin Poulin was recalled from Bridgeport of the AHL on Monday, according to Newsday's Arthur Staple.
Analysis: Kevin Poulin will more than likely be the backup goaltender as Jaroslav Halak didn't join the Islanders on their road trip to Chicago. Poulin will return to Bridgeport as soon as Halak is ready to go.
  • Isles Reassign Poulin

News: Kevin Poulin was sent back to AHL Bridgeport on Sunday.
Analysis: Kevin Poulin was recalled Saturday in an emergency situation and received the start, allowing three goals in a 4-3 shootout loss to the Sabres. He will head back to AHL Bridgeport, as the team activated Jaroslav Halak off injured reserve.
  • Poulin Allows Three Saturday

News: Kevin Poulin allowed three goals on 26 shots in the Islanders' 4-3 shootout loss to Buffalo on Saturday.
Analysis: With Jaroslav Halak (lower body) on injured reserve, Kevin Poulin made a surprise start. Things were going quite well ... until the previously dormant Sabres pushed three goals past Poulin during a devastating six-minute span in the third period. Halak could return as early as Monday.
