Bruins' Zac Rinaldo: Scores first goal of season

Rinaldo scored his first goal of the season in Monday's win over the Maple Leafs. Skating primarily on a fourth line role, Rinaldo hasn't provided much by the way of offense, as the goal was his first point of the season. He does have 29 penalty minutes, but there's little else here from a fantasy perspective.

Bruins' Zac Rinaldo: Sees fourth-line duty

Rinaldo recorded four hits in 7:32 worth of ice time in Monday's 6-3 loss to the Lightning. Through three games, Rinaldo has yet to record a point and his 10 PIM are via a misconduct penalty Saturday against Montreal. In his fourth-line role with the B's, the gritty winger's fantasy utility is restricted to formats where hits and PIMs are factored in.

    • Rinaldo Traded To Bruins

News: The Flyers traded Zac Rinaldo to the Bruins on Monday for a third-round draft choice in the 2017 NHL Draft, reports.
Analysis: Zac Rinaldo, who tallied one goal and six points to go along with 109 penalty minutes in 58 games for Philadelphia this past season, adds depth and grit to the B's forward mix, but he's presumably ticketed for a fourth-line/agitator role that limits his fantasy utility to PIM-heavy formats.
    • Flyers' Rinaldo Busts Out With Two Points

News: Zac Rinaldo supplied a goal and set up another in Saturday's 7-2 blowout of the Red Wings. He also collected seven hits and three shots on goal.
Analysis: With the two-point outing, Zac Rinaldo doubled his offensive output from the previous 45 games he's played this season. The high hit total was less of an aberration for Rinaldo, whose grinding style on a bottom line lends itself to more chippiness than it does scoring. Roster him only if you're in need of help in the hit and PIM categories, as he'll generally provide goose eggs everywhere else.
    • Suspension Over For Flyers' Rinaldo

News: Zac Rinaldo has completed his eight-game suspension and will be eligible to return to the Flyers' lineup Tuesday against the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: According to Randy Miller of the Newark Star-Ledger, Zac Rinaldo will remain in the press box for Tuesday's game, as the Flyers opt to stick with the same lineup. Rinaldo is a useful source of PIM and hits, but is essentially a blank slate everywhere else.
    • Flyers' Rinaldo Suspended Eight Games

News: Zac Rinaldo has been suspended for eight games by the NHL Department of Player Safety for boarding and charging Kris Letang in Tuesday's game against the Penguins.
Analysis: Zac Rinaldo had an in-person hearing for the incident which ultimately resulted in the eight-game suspension. The repeat offender will be off the ice until Feb. 17 against the Blue Jackets; Chris VandeVelde will likely take on a larger role at left wing for the time being.
    • Flyers' Rinaldo To Have In-Person Hearing

News: Zac Rinaldo will have an in-person hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety on Wednesday following his illegal check to the head of the Pens' Kris Letang in Tuesday's game, TSN's Bob McKenzie reports.
Analysis: Zac Rinaldo picked up a 10-game misconduct and five-minute major penalty for the hit on Letang, who never returned to the game. Fortunately, Letang was able to resume skating Wednesday, which would work well in Rinaldo's favor to avoid a lengthy suspension, though the in-person hearing suggests he'll be on tap for at least a five-game ban. The bottom-six forward has a history of nefarious play, as he's previously been handed suspensions for illegal hits on two occasions over the last three seasons.
    • Flyers' Rinaldo Makes Return Saturday

News: Zac Rinaldo (upper body) will return to the lineup Saturday against the Devils, Sarah Baicker of CSN Philadelphia reports.
Analysis: Zac Rinaldo missed six consecutive games with the injury, but has been skating for the last couple of days and seemed to be just waiting for an opening to rejoin the lineup. That came when Scott Laughton suffered an injury Friday night and was ruled out for Saturday, allowing Rinaldo to claim his typical spot on the Flyers' fourth line.
    • Flyers' Rinaldo Sitting Again Friday

News: Zac Rinaldo (upper body) will miss his sixth straight game Friday against the Hurricanes, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis: Zac Rinaldo was on the ice for the team's morning skate, but didn't partake in line rushes, suggesting he'll be bound for the press box yet again. The Flyers will play again Saturday in New Jersey, so it's possible Rinaldo could be called upon to make his return for that game in an attempt to spell another forward for the second half of the back-to-back set.
    • Flyers Rule Rinaldo Out For Tuesday

News: Zac Rinaldo (upper body) will not play Tuesday against the Wild, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis: Zac Rinaldo was able to take part in the Flyers' morning skate, but didn't show enough progress with his recovery from the injury to make coach Craig Berube comfortable with using him. Chris VandeVelde will occupy his spot in the lineup for the second straight game.
