Senators' Zack Smith: Gets first goal of season Thursday

Smith scored his first goal of the season in Thursday's 5-4 shootout loss to the Devils. The Senators fourth line was their most productive unit Thursday, combining for two goals and three assists. Smith also finished plus-2 in just 7:36 of ice time.

    • Sens' Smith Back In Lineup

News: Zack Smith will re-enter the Sens' lineup Wednesday against Montreal.
Analysis: With Zack Smith, who recorded three points in 37 games this past season, set to suit up for Wednesday's Game 4, veteran David Legwand is headed for the press box.
    • Sens' Smith Set To Return

News: Zack Smith is slated to play Monday against the Sharks.
Analysis: Zack Smith, who last suited up for the Sens on Dec. 13, checks back into the team's lineup with three points and 12 PIM in 27 games, the sort of production that restricts his fantasy utility to deeper formats.
    • Sens' Recall Smith From Conditioning Assignement

News: Zack Smith (wrist) was recalled from his conditioning stint with AHL Binghamton on Sunday.
Analysis: Zack Smith's recall indicates he should be good to go moving forward, with return to the lineup possibly on tap Monday. He's tallied three points over 27 games with the Senators this season, but hasn't played in a NHL game since Dec. 15, when he dislocated his wrist.
    • Sens Assign Smith To AHL

News: The Senators have assigned Zack Smith to AHL Binghamton on a conditioning assignment.
Analysis: Zack Smith, who is bouncing back from a dislocated wrist that he suffered back on Dec. 13, will thus have a chance to get up to speed at the AHL level before reentering the big club's forward mix. Prior to his injury, Smith had recorded three points in 27 games for the Sens.
    • Sens Activate Smith From IR

News: Zack Smith (wrist) was activated from injured reserve in advance of Tuesday's game against the Hurricanes.
Analysis: Though Zack Smith was cleared to resume playing over the weekend and did travel with the Senators to Carolina on Tuesday, he will not be making his return to the lineup. Coach Dave Cameron seems satisfied with the play of his fourth-line crew at the moment, so it may take a poor performance by the team in order for Smith to make his first appearance since Dec. 13. Smith should be considered day-to-day until he formally returns to action, which could happen Mar. 19 against the Bruins.
    • Sens' Smith (Wrist) Cleared To Return

News: Zack Smith (wrist) has been cleared to return but won't play Sunday against the Flyers, Dean Brown of TSN 1200 reports.
Analysis: Zack Smith was cleared for contact over a week ago, and it appears the strength in his wrist has returned to a satisfactory level. Despite being cleared to return, he'll sit out Sunday's contest, and will likely continue to be a borderline lineup option moving forward. He will have to officially be activated before taking the ice, however.
    • Blazers' Smith Cleared To Take Contact

News: Zack Smith (wrist) has been cleared to take full contact in practices, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports.
Analysis: While an injured player's participation in a full-contact practice would typically signal a forthcoming return, the Senators aren't quite certain when or if Zack Smith will play again this season. His biggest obstacle remaining might be to regain strength in the wrist to shoot and maneuver with the puck, but there's no clear timetable on how long that might take. Smith shouldn't be viewed as day-to-day quite yet.
    • Sens' Smith Making Strides

News: Zack Smith (wrist) was a participant in Tuesday's practice, Don Brennan of the Ottawa Sun reports.
Analysis: Zack Smith has shown improvement during his recent on-ice sessions of last, but still has a little ways to go before he's cleared to return from the dislocated wrist. The Senators don't have a clear timetable for his return just yet.
    • Sens' Smith Still Far Off Return

News: Zack Smith (wrist) is considered far off a return to the Ottawa lineup, TSN's Steve Lloyd reports.
Analysis: Zack Smith has been skating since about mid-January, but it's mostly been out of an effort to stay conditioned rather than in attempt to test out his dislocated wrist. Until the forward is reintroduced into practices with the team, an activation from injured reserve won't be considered.
