    • 'Canes Assign Jared Staal To Minors

News: Jared Staal has been assigned to AHL Charlotte pending waivers, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: Time is ticking away for the youngest Jared Staal brother, who is now 24 years old and has been playing in the AHL for the better part of the last five seasons. Trouble is, despite the fact he was a decent scorer in junior, averaging 50 points a season for the Sudbury Wolves of the OHL, he has just 25 combined points in 164 AHL games. He should not be on anyone's fantasy radar right now.
    • Staal Signs With Hurricanes

News: Jared Staal signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Hurricanes on Thursday.
Analysis: Jared Staal saw action in two games with the Hurricanes during the 2012-13 season, but he spent last season with AHL Charlotte, where he notched just seven points in 50 games. With numbers like those, the 23-year-old winger is off the fantasy radar for now, though he'd surely love to get some more extended run alongside brothers Eric and Jared in Carolina.
    • Carolina Re-Signs Jared Staal

News: Jared Staal signed a one-year, two-way contract with Carolina on Tuesday.
Analysis: Jared Staal made two NHL appearances last season, but he still appears to be a long way away from AHL viability, let alone the NHL. He had just seven points in 52 AHL games last year.
    • Hurricanes' Jared Staal Makes NHL Debut

News: Jared Staal made his NHL debut Thursday against the Rangers, skating 12:16, laying five hits and putting one shot on goal in a 4-3 overtime loss.
Analysis: The Panthers and Rangers put on a Jared Staalstravaganza in this one, fielding all four Staal brothers between them -- Eric, Jordan and Jared for the 'Canes, Marc for the Rangers. Jared doesn't quite project to Eric and Jordan's offensive upside, as he's totaled a meager seven points in 52 AHL games this year.
    • Hurricanes To Recall Jared Staal

News: Jared Staal will be recalled by the Hurricanes, the team's official site reports.
Analysis: In 52 games with AHL Charlotte, the winger -- who has yet to make his NHL debut -- has just seven points and 25 PIMs, but at 6-4, 200 pounds, he does at least bring size to the table.
    • Hurrricanes' J. Staal Sent to AHL Charlotte

News: Jared Staal has been assigned to Charlotte of the AHL, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: Jared Staal, who has three brothers in the NHL, collected just two points in 13 appearances with Charlotte last year. Still, he's just 21 years old and figures to benefit from more development time outside of hockey's highest level of competition.
    • Canes' Jared Staal Changes Conditioning Program

News: Jared Staal changed his conditioning program in the offseason and lost 15 pounds, according to Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News and Observer.
Analysis: Losing 15 pounds will certainly make Jared Staal quicker, but questions will arise about his strength in front of the net. Jared, the youngest of the four Staal brothers, and the only one not to be in the NHL last season, is confident that he will play in the NHL soon.
    • Canes' Jared Staal Has Sights Set On NHL

News: Staal, the younger brother of Eric, Marc and Jordan Staal -- all currently in the NHL -- is presently in the midst of postseason play with AHL Charlotte, and believes he will someday join his siblings in the NHL, the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: Said Jared, "I'm confident in my abilities. I can play at this (AHL) level, I know. And hopefully in the next year or two I can make the jump." In 2010-11, the youngest Staal played 33 games worth of mid-level professional hockey with the Florida Everblades of the ECHL, notching six goals and five assists in 33 games. The 20-year-old also appeared in 13 regular-season contests with AHL Charlotte, but had just two points - a goal and an assist.
    • Carolina adds another Staal to fold

News: Jared Staal didn't waste any time signing with his big brother's team. The Carolina Hurricanes signed Staal to a three-year entry-level contract Friday, one day after they acquired Eric Staal's younger brother in a trade with the Phoenix Coyotes. Carolina obtained Staal from the Coyotes for a fifth-round pick in June's draft. All of his three older brothers play in the NHL, including Eric, a three-time All-Star and the Hurricanes' captain.
Analysis: The 19-year-old forward signed a two-way deal that will pay him $500,000 at the NHL level next season and $525,000 in 2011-12 and 2012-13. He will make $50,000 at the AHL level in all three seasons. If the Hurricanes couldn't sign Staal by June 1, he would have re-entered the draft. Staal posted 12 goals and 49 points in 59 games with Sudbury in 2009-10. He also played five games in the AHL with San Antonio, recording one point. Staal is a project at this point in his career and is nothing more than a long-term Fantasy keeper.
    • Staal has 12 goals for Sudbury (OHL)

News: Coyotes right wing prospect Jared Staal has totaled four goals and four assists in nine January games for Sudbury of the OHL. The Thunder Bay native has 12 goals and 24 assists in 44 games this season.
Analysis: Yes, Staal is the brother of NHLers Marc, Jordan and Eric. He comes from a great lineage of hockey players, but still has a lot of growing up to do in his own right. Staal is a project at this point in his career and is nothing more than a long-term Fantasy keeper.
