Penguins' Jeff Zatkoff: Makes 24 saves in loss

Zatkoff made 25 saves Saturday in a 4-2, Game 2 loss to the Penguins. None of the goals were a problem (unlike his teammates who collapsed on top of him at times). Zatkoff had a solid game and will remain between the pipes until Marc-Andre Fleury heals up.

Penguins' Jeff Zatkoff: Receives starting nod Saturday

Zatkoff will be between the pipes in Saturday's Game 2 against the Rangers, Andrew Gross of The Record reports. Zatkoff was great Wednesday's Game 1, his first career playoff start, stopping 35 of 37 shots en route to a 5-2 victory. The 28-year-old netminder will continue to shoulder the load in goal for the Penguins while Marc-Andre Fleury, who is evidently still hampered by the concussion he sustained in early April, remains sidelined. Zatkoff will make for a great value play in daily contests Saturday due to his bargain salary and semi-favorable matchup.

Penguins' Jeff Zatkoff: Grabs Game 1 victory in first career playoff start

Zatkoff turned aside 35 of 37 shots in a 5-2 win over the Rangers in Game 1 on Wednesday. Making just his second appearance since Feb. 20, Zatkoff was sharp when he needed to be in front of a rowdy Consol Energy Center. An unlikely starter, the 28-year-old got the call to open the playoffs in liey of regular starter Marc-Andre Fleury and backup Matt Murray, who are both believed to be dealing with concussion-related issues. It's still unclear as to when Fleury and Murray will return, so Zatkoff could be in line to start again in Game 2 on Saturday.

    Penguins' Jeff Zatkoff: Starting Wednesday

Zatkoff will be between the pipes in Wednesday's Game 1 against the Rangers, New York Daily News reports. Marc-Andre Fleury evidently still isn't feeling well enough to return to game action. Zatkoff will hope that the Penguins offense can carry him Wednesday, as he hasn't been great in limited action this season, compiling a 4-7-1 record with a 2.79 GAA and .917 save percentage in 14 appearances. He'll draw into a decent home matchup Wednesday with a Rangers club averaging 2.51 goals per game on the road this season, 15th in the NHL.

Penguins' Jeff Zatkoff: Appears in relief

Zatkoff entered Saturday's game in the first period after starter Matt Murray was injured in a collision with Philadelphia's Brayden Schenn. Zatkoff allowed a goal on the first shot he faced, but settled in and finished with 22 saves on 24 shots. Gulp. Murray took a hit to the head and headed off in accordance with the league's concussion protocol. And Marc-Andre Fleury is already sidelined with a concussion. Zatkoff may be the man in the blue paint come playoff time.

Penguins' Jeff Zatkoff: Slotting in as backup goalie Saturday

Zatkoff will serve in a backup role Saturday, as the Penguins have a road game against the Islanders, Josh Getzoff of PensTV reports. Zatkoff hasn't played since Feb. 20, when the Lightning blew him up to the tune of four goals on 20 shots in a loss. Fellow netminder Matt Murray figures to draw the lion's share of playing time between the pipes with No. 1 tender Marc-Andre Fleury (concussion) out indefinitely. Including Saturday's contest, the Pens have just five games left on the regular-season calendar.

Penguins' Jeff Zatkoff: Surprise starter makes 16 saves in loss

Zatkoff made 16 saves Saturday in a 4-2 loss to the Lightning. He made the last-minute start after scheduled starter Marc-Andre Fleury took ill during the pre-game warmups. He wasn't sharp, but then again, he didn't have a chance on two of the four goals. Zatkoff did do a good job of stymying the Bolts on five separate power plays, though.

Penguins' Jeff Zatkoff: Starting Saturday against Tampa Bay

Although Marc Andre-Fleury was originally announced as Saturday's starter, in a last-minute change the Penguins have decided to award Zatkoff the start in goal against the Lightning, Jenn Menendez of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. The reasoning behind the last-minute switch remains a mystery, but Zatkoff will hope the short notice doesn't negatively impact his performance in Saturday's contest. The 28-year-old netminder will look to pick up his fifth win of the season Saturday in a decent matchup with a Tampa Bay club that has lost four of its last six games, failing two score more than two goals in any of those defeats.

Penguins' Jeff Zatkoff: Won't start Monday

Marc-Andre Fleury will start Monday against the Panthers. Pens coach Mike Sullivan declined to name his starter Sunday, leading to some speculation Zatkoff might get the nod. With Pittsburgh playing three games in four days starting Thursday, look for Zatkoff to get the nod Saturday or Sunday.

Penguins' Jeff Zatkoff: Not ruled out Monday

Coach Mike Sullivan declined to name a starting goalie for Monday's game against the Panthers. Pittsburgh plays only one game in five days until Thursday, which would make it unusual for the backup (Zatkoff) to get the nod, but he did stop 42 shots in an overtime victory against Florida just one week ago. The team then plays three games in four days to close out Week 20 and Zatkoff will almost surely get one of those starts.
