    • Panthers Ink McKenna To Two-Year Deal

News: Mike McKenna signed a two-year, two-way contract with the Panthers on Wednesday, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Mike McKenna is expected to enter the upcoming season as No. 3 on the Panthers' organizational depth chart behind Roberto Luongo and Al Montoya. The 32-year-old made one appearance in the NHL with the Coyotes last season, but otherwise spent his time at AHL Portland, going 27-18-6 with a 2.24 GAA and .926 save percentage in 52 games at AHL Portland.
    • Coyotes Send McKenna To AHL

News: The Coyotes sent Mike McKenna to AHL Portland on Thursday, the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Meanwhile, the Coyotes have recalled fellow goaltender Louis Domingue, with Mike McKenna headed back to the AHL after making just one appearance with the big club, which resulted in a 5-2 loss to the Avs on Feb. 16.
    • Coyotes' McKenna Lit Up Monday

News: In his first start of the season, Mike McKenna was torched for five goals on 34 shots Monday in a loss to the Avalanche.
Analysis: The 31 year-old veteran was hung out to dry by his team as the Coyotes didn't even muster a shot on Colorado's net in the second period. He will remain the primary backup to starter Mike Smith in Arizona.
    • Yotes' McKenna Lit Up In Season Debut

News: Mike McKenna was lit up for five goals on 34 shots in a 5-2 loss to the Avalanche in his season debut Monday.
Analysis: This definitely wasn't the greatest way to get his feet wet in the NHL this season, but it's also not surprising either for a Coyotes team that allows a third-worst 3.26 goals per game. Mike McKenna probably won't see much action down the stretch as the Coyotes aim to get Mike Smith back on his game, so for now the backup will have to settle with a career 5-11-2 record, 3.48 GAA and .889 save percentage at the NHL level -- all terrible numbers that are likely a main reason why he hasn't found a full-time job in the big leagues.
    • Coyotes' McKenna Will Start In Net Monday

News: Mike McKenna will start in net Monday against the Avalanche, Craig Morgan of Fox Sports Arizona reports.
Analysis: Mike McKenna's start in net will be his first of the season. He performed well at AHL Portland this season, posting a 18-14-2 record with a 2.09 GAA and .933 save percentage over 35 games before being recalled. While his starts will likely come few and far between, McKenna is expected remain the backup netminder behind Mike Smith for the remainder of the season.
    • Coyotes Recall McKenna

News: Mike McKenna was recalled from AHL Portland on Monday.
Analysis: Mike McKenna was recalled to replace Louis Domingue on the active roster, as Domingue was assigned to AHL Portland in a corresponding move. The 31-year-old netminder has been pretty good in the AHL this season, posting a 2.09 GAA and .933 save percentage over 35 games. Although McKenna will join the Coyotes, Mike Smith should continue to see the lion's share of starts between the pipes.
    • Coyotes Send McKenna Back To Minors

News: Mike McKenna was reassigned to AHL Portland on Saturday, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: Mike McKenna didn't see any action during his two-game stay with the Coyotes. A similar fate will likely await Louis Domingue, who was recalled from the minors in a corresponding move. The Coyotes appear content to lean heavily on No. 1 goalie Mike Smith throughout the second half.
    • Coyotes Recall McKenna

News: Mike McKenna was recalled from AHL Portland on Wednesday.
Analysis: Mike McKenna will likely just act as a placeholder on the Coyotes' 23-man roster during the All-Star break, as backup goalie Mike Lee was reassigned to the minors to pick up ice time. Even if McKenna sticks around after the break, he doesn't figure to see much action behind Mike Smith. The 31-year-old has made just 21 NHL appearances over his career, posting a 3.40 GAA and .891 save percentage.
    • Coyotes Sign McKenna To Two-Way Deal

News: Mike McKenna agreed to a one-year, two-way contract with the Coyotes on Tuesday, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: Mike McKenna made his first NHL appearance for Columbus last season since the 2010-11 campaign, posting a 3.01 GAA and .904 save percentage when Sergei Bobrovsky was forced to miss some time. With the Coyotes adding Devan Dubnyk to their roster Tuesday as the presumed backup to Mike Smith, McKenna looks to be no better than the organization's No. 3 option in goal.
    • Blue Jackets Send Down McKenna

News: Mike McKenna was sent down to AHL Springfield on Friday.
Analysis: With Sergei Bobrovsky traveling with the team, it appears he is well enough to at least act as a backup, if not return to the crease as the starter for Saturday's game altogether. Mike McKenna saw no ice time during this stint with the big club but will again be the first call should Columbus need depth at a later date.
