Sabres' Marcus Foligno: Expected to return Monday

Foligno, who missed Saturday's game with a leg injury, is expected to play Monday against the Flyers, reports The Buffalo News. Foligno will likely return to his usual spot in the bottom-six of the lineup, though without the services of Evander Kane the Sabres may opt to play Foligno on the top line for a few shifts. Nicolas Deslauriers took Kane's spot in practice but he's not expected to play with them every shift. This is a good opportunity for Foligno to live up to expectations as a power forward with a scoring touch, but given his recent performances it'll be difficult to realize. Until he goes on a hot streak, it's safe to leave him on the waiver wire in fantasy.

      Sabres' Marcus Foligno: Practices Monday

Foligno practiced Monday morning, Paul Hamilton of WGR Sports Radio 550 reports. After sitting out Saturday's contest with the Devils due to a lower-body injury, Foligno returned to the ice Monday. This development points to Foligno being in the Sabres' lineup Tuesday night when they take on the Flyers.

Sabres' Marcus Foligno: Ruled out Saturday

Foligno has been ruled out prior to Saturday's game, Bill Hoppe of the Times Herald reports. It's unclear at this time why Foligno was not able to suit up for the Sabres on Saturday, but more information should be provided after the game.

    • Starts on fourth line

News: Marcus Foligno will start on the fourth line with Nicolas Deslauriers, reports The Buffalo News.
Analysis: It seems less likely with each passing year that Marcus Foligno will ever develop into a 20-goal checking line forward. He's scored just 15 goals over the past two seasons, and while he's a physical force, his offensive potential seems to be tapped out. After sitting out a few games as a healthy scratch last year, Foligno looks to be a fixture in the lineup with head coach Dan Bylsma indicating that he may ask Foligno to fill in as a center if needed. Until Foligno can score more often and perform more consistently, he's of little fantasy value.
    • Sabres' Foligno Strikes Twice In Loss

News: Marcus Foligno netted a pair of goals and fired five shots on goal in Friday's loss to Chicago.
Analysis: While he's now got five points in his last six games, the goals were his first in 24 outings. Currently skating on the second line, the 23-year-old is an inconsistent scorer who shows flashes of brilliance, but remains too streaky to be trusted in anything but the deepest of leagues.
    • Sabres' Foligno Registers Assist In Win

News: Marcus Foligno pocketed an assist in Monday's win over the Coyotes.
Analysis: Marcus Foligno has three assists in his last four games, but that shouldn't be taken as an endorsement to go out and add him to your fantasy roster. His standing on the Sabres' roster is in itself detrimental to his plus/minus rating, and he doesn't have the requisite scoring skills to make up for it. Even after this minor run, Foligno still has a meager 17 points in 51 games this season.
    • Sabres' Foligno Assists In Loss

News: Marcus Foligno gathered an assist in Saturday's 6-1 loss to the Capitals.
Analysis: Marcus Foligno helped set up Johan Larsson's first-period marker that gave the Sabres an early 1-0 lead, which would prove to be the team's highlight of the night. The 23-year-old has been holding down a top-six role upon returning from thumb surgery in early February, but only has a goal and four assists since that time.
    • Sabres' Foligno To Return Sunday

News: Marcus Foligno (thumb) will return to the lineup Sunday against the Islanders.
Analysis: Marcus Foligno was expected to make his return from an extended absence Sunday, and that appears to be confirmed. The winger has been sidelined since late December following a fight with Boston's Matt Bartkowski, limiting him to just 28 games so far this season. With his return, Cody Hodgson will be bumped out of the lineup Sunday.
    • Sabres' Folingo Scores In Return

News: Marcus Foligno returned to the lineup Sunday, scoring a goal, adding an assist and dishing out five hits in a loss to the Islanders.
Analysis: A terrific return for the 23-year-old, who had been sidelined since late December following a fight with Boston's Matt Bartkowski. With six goals and 11 points in 29 games, the third-liner doesn't provide much fantasy value outside of the deepest of leagues. He's collected 43 PIM and has potential, though, so if he can find some consistency, he could be worth looking at in very deep formats.
    • Sabres' Foligno Expects To Return Sunday

News: Marcus Foligno (thumb) is expected to return Sunday against the Islanders, reports Brian Koziol of WGR 550.
Analysis: Out since late December after a fight with Boston's Matt Bartkowski, Marcus Foligno has played in just 28 games this season, scoring nine points. He was used as a center prior to his injury, and it remains to be seen if he'll return to that position, but the Sabres could use a boost from Foligno's aggressive and physical style of play. Teammate Chris Stewart has been on fire, which can hopefully rub off on Foligno, an occasional linemate. No word on who will be taken out of the lineup, but the smart money would be on Matt Ellis or Patrick Kaleta.
