Kings' Brayden McNabb: Scores first goal, adds assist in win over Bolts

McNabb scored his first goal of the season and picked up a helper in Sunday's win over the Lightning. While McNabb doesn't play on the power play and isn't seen as a huge offensive contributor, the 24-year-old is putting together a nice season for the Kings, recording six points and a plus-6 rating through 25 games. McNabb is averaging 21:28 of ice time this season and should deliver a second consecutive season in the 20-point range.

  • Kings' McNabb Scores Game-Winner Saturday

News: Brayden McNabb provided the game-winning goal in Saturday's 4-1 triumph over the Sharks.
Analysis: It went down as just the second goal of the season for Brayden McNabb, but he wasn't a total drain in the scoring categories, as he provided 22 assists in 71 games despite averaging only 15:54 of ice time. With Robyn Regehr announcing after Saturday's season finale that he would retire, opportunity knocks for McNabb to take on a more sizable role for the Kings in 2015-16.
  • McNabb Has Bust-Out Game For Kings

News: Brayden McNabb broke out with a huge game Tuesday, scoring his second goal of the season and adding two assists -- one on the power play -- in a win over Colorado.
Analysis: Brayden McNabb's been a modest offensive contributor, so despite his apparent upside, this kind of game is quite out of the blue. But he now has five points in his last six contests, so things are certainly trending up.
  • Kings' McNabb Ends 79-Game Goal Drought

News: Brayden McNabb found the net on one of his two shot attempts in Friday's loss to the Ducks, ending a 79-game goalless skid.
Analysis: Brayden McNabb's previous tally had came while he was a member of the Sabres back on Dec. 26, 2011. The third-pairing blueliner offers most of his contributions in the form of hits and PIM, though his total of 17 assists in 55 games illustrates that he's not totally devoid of offensive upside.
  • Kings' McNabb Records Assist Thursday

News: Brayden McNabb recorded an assist in Thursday's 5-3 win over the Flames.
Analysis: Brayden McNabb has reentered the Kings' lineup the last two games while Alec Martinez (concussion) has been out, notching three helpers. The young blueliner hasn't seen much ice time this season while skating primarily on the third pairing, but he's provided a decent amount of offense in that role. He's picked up an assist in one third of the games he's played.
  • Kings' McNabb Helps Out Twice

News: Brayden McNabb contributed two helpers in Wednesday's loss to the Devils.
Analysis: Brayden McNabb's been a healthy scratch on a few occasions in recent weeks, but Wednesday's showing may have locked him back into a regular spot. He's gone without a goal this season for the Kings, but is a solid source of hits (111 in 40 games) and PIM (35) from the blue line.
  • Kings' McNabb A Healthy Scratch Monday

News: Brayden McNabb will be a healthy scratch Monday for the first time this season, Jon Rosen of LA Kings Insider reports.
Analysis: Brayden McNabb took warmups Monday, but he will be held out in favor of Calgary native Jeff Schultz with the Kings playing in Calgary on Monday night.
  • Kings' McNabb Gets Two Assists

News: Brayden McNabb picked up a pair of assists -- one on the power play -- in Tuesday's win over Florida.
Analysis: While Brayden McNabb only has four points -- all helpers -- in 19 games with the Kings this year, he's been seeing heavier ice time of late, including 4:18 on the man advantage Tuesday. McNabb's demonstrated his scoring chops in the AHL, but somehow was never able to permanently earn a role on the Sabres' blue line despite Buffalo's horrendous defensive struggles, so he must feel liberated to be playing for the defending Stanley Cup champs. If he keeps seeing serious ice time, more point production should be in the offing.
  • Sabres Send McNabb To Kings

News: Brayden McNabb was traded to the Kings along with two second-round picks Wednesday in exchange for prospects Hudson Fasching and Nicholas Deslauriers, John Vogl of the Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: With several promising young defensemen coming up the Sabres' pipeline, the team could afford to deal Brayden McNabb to the Kings for some other prospects. McNabb will probably stay in the AHL and report to the Kings' affiliate in Manchester, but he could have a chance to join the parent club as a late-season callup.
  • Sabres' McNabb Sent To AHL

News: Brayden McNabb was reassigned to AHL Rochester on Wednesday, Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald reports.
Analysis: The Sabres no longer had need for Brayden McNabb's services with Henrik Tallinder back from injured reserve. McNabb was held without a point in the 12 games he's suited up for this season.
