  • Roy Traded To Flames

News: Olivier Roy was traded along with Ladislav Smid to the Flames on Friday, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 reports. The Oilers received center Roman Horak and goaltending prospect Laurent Brossoit.
Analysis: Olivier Roy has been playing this season with AHL Oklahoma City. In four games he is 2-2-0 with a 3.29 GAA and an .897 save percentage. He will provide organizational depth at goalie for the Flames.
  • Oilers Still Believe Roy Can Be Starting NHL Goaltender

News: The Oilers still believe that Olivier Roy can be a starting NHL goaltender, according to the Edmonton Journal.
Analysis: Olivier Roy is playing for Oklahoma City of the AHL but is hardly on the fast track to the NHL. He stands fourth on the depth chart as of now behind Nikolai Khabibulin, Devan Dubnyk, and Yann Danis. The good news however is that Khabibulin is gone after this season, and the other three are far from mortal locks to make it in the NHL, so Roy will have a chance to make his move.
  • Oilers' Roy Sent To Oklahoma City

News: Olivier Roy was sent to Oklahoma City on Monday, according to the Edmonton Journal.
Analysis: Olivier Roy won't be making the trip alone, Ryan Lowery, Phillippe Cornet, Tanner House, Chris VandeVelde, Alex Plante, Milan Kytnar, Curtis Hamilton, Ryan Martindale, Tyler Pitlick, and Kirill Tulupov will be joining him. Martin Marincin was sent to the WHL.
  • Oilers' Sign Roy To Three-Year Contract

News: Roy signs three-year contract with Oilers on Wednesday, according to the Oilers web site.
Analysis: Roy is still behind Nikolai Khabibulin and Devan Dubnyk on the Oilers depth chart, so he still has a ways to go before he finds himself playing in Edmonton.
  • Oil Prospect Roy Struggling At World Juniors

News: Roy has struggled between the pipes for Canada at the World Junior Hockey Championship in Buffalo.
Analysis: He has allowed several sketchy goals including one in each game just inside the far post. His rebound control has been a problem in almost every game and he now faces the prospect of losing his starting role as Canada heads into quarter-final action Sunday against Switzerland. His challenges haven't impacted his fantasy value yet but it's never good to see a player struggle against the best in his age class.
  • Oilers Roy Assigned to the QMJHL

News: Roy was assigned to the Acadie-Bathurst of the QMJHL on Wednesday, according to the Oilers web site.
Analysis: Roy is still just 19 years of age and needs to play as much as possible. At best he is fourth or fifth on the Oilers' depth chart for goalies, but that could change over time as he gets more game experience.
