• Isles' Strait Picks Up Assist

News: Brian Strait registered an assist in Friday's win over the Penguins.
Analysis: The secondary helper came on John Tavares' game-winning third-period goal, giving Brian Strait just his seventh point in 51 games. He's been able to hold off Calvin de Haan and Matt Donovan for a regular role on the Isles' second defensive pairing of late, but typically serves in a stay-at-home capacity.
  • Isles' Strait Picks Up Assist In Win

News: Brian Strait was credited with an assist in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: Brian Strait had a costly turnover in the final minute of the first period that directly resulted in a game-tying goal by Cam Atkinson, but redeemed himself to an extent with the secondary assist on the first of two goals on the evening by John Tavares. Strait has been able to maintain a lineup spot for the last handful of games in the wake of Calvin de Haan's facial injury, but it looks to be just a matter of time before Strait heads back to the press box. De Haan is now healthy, but coach Jack Capuano has been hesitant to change his lineup with the Isles winning their last four games. Once that streak comes to an end, however, there's a high likelihood that de Haan will displace Strait on a near-every game basis.
  • Isles' Strait Gets Offensive With Goal And Assist

News: Brian Strait had a goal and an assist in Saturday's win over the Blue Jackets. It was his second game in a row after sitting out for 11 straight (personal).
Analysis: The points double his season total, so don't open up a tab and check the waiver wire. He'll be there. And that's exactly where he should stay.
  • Isles' Strait (Personal) Returns To Lineup

News: Brian Strait (personal) will return to the Islanders lineup Friday versus the Devils.
Analysis: Brian Strait hasn't suited up for the Islanders since Dec. 11, taking some personal time off at one point in December before rejoining the team. He'll draw in for Matt Donovan on Friday, but it's probably just an attempt by coach Jack Capuano to keep Strait active and involved rather than anything that will turn into a permanent deployment in the lineup.
  • Isles' Strait Leaves Team For Personal Reasons

News: Brian Strait has left the team due to personal reasons, according to Newsday.
Analysis: There is no word as to what those reasons are or when he might return, only that he won't be back for the game Monday. His loss is not a major one however as he is no better than the Isles seventh defender and one who is a healthy scratch more often than not.
  • Isles To Scratch Strait On Saturday

News: Brian Strait will be a healthy scratch Saturday against the Blackhawks, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.
Analysis: Brian Strait has gone a collective minus-5 over his last three games and was especially poor defensively in Thursday's 6-3 loss to the Blues. He'll be replaced in the lineup by rookie Griffin Reinhart on Saturday, and with Travis Hamonic and Johnny Boychuk both on the mend from injuries, Strait's days as a lineup fixture could soon be coming to an end.
  • Isles' Strait Likely Out Tuesday

News: Brian Strait is expected to serve as a healthy scratch Tuesday against the Avalanche, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.
Analysis: With Johnny Boychuk (knee) able to take part fully in morning skate, it looks like he'll be cleared to draw in for Brian Strait, who skated in place of Boychuk on Sunday. Strait has appeared in 11 games this season for the Islanders, providing one point, 10 PIM and 31 hits.
  • Season Over For Isles' Strait

News: Coach Jack Capuano said none of the Islanders' injured players -- which includes Brian Strait (hand) -- will return this season, reports Newsday's Arthur Staple.
Analysis: Brian Strait, who broke his hand back in mid-March, finishes the year with a minus-14 rating and a career-high (for what it's worth) nine points in 47 games,
  • Isles' Strait Leaves With An Injury

News: Brian Strait suffered a broken left hand in Tuesday's game vs. the Wild.
Analysis: The Islanders didn't issue a timetable for Brian Strait, but this type of injury would presumably keep him out through the rest of March, if not longer. Strait was only a marginal contributor on the Islanders' blue line with nine points and a minus-13 rating in 46 games, and the team should be able to replace him rather easily with either Radek Martinek, Matt Donovan or Matt Carkner.
  • Isles' Strait Pointless In Last 10 Games

News: Brian Strait has been held without a point in the 10 games since his two-point outburst Jan. 18 against the Flyers.
Analysis: The lack of offensive output is problematic enough, but his minus-9 during that stretch is probably even more of a back-breaker. It's difficult to justify owning him in almost any format when he's hurting a fantasy team's cumulative stats in addition to not providing any useful counting numbers.
