• Sens Sign Veteran Blueliner Kostka To Two-Way Deal

News: Mike Kostka signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Senators on Wednesday.
Analysis: The 29-year-old Mike Kostka made seven appearances for the Rangers last season when injuries compromised their defensive depth, but otherwise spent the majority of his campaign with the club's AHL affiliate in Hartford. Kostka will likely receive a token chance to win a spot as the Sens' seventh defenseman out of training camp, though even if he wins that role, it's one that will likely be bereft of fantasy value.
  • Rangers Waive Kostka

News: Mike Kostka was placed on waivers Thursday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
Analysis: Mike Kostka's placement on waivers will clear the way for the Rangers to activate Dan Boyle from injured reserve, as he returns to the lineup after missing the previous 14 games with a broken hand. With one point in seven contests and a propensity for making mistakes in his own zone, Kostka didn't do much to warrant a spot on the 23-man roster. He'll stick with the team as a seventh defenseman for Thursday's game against the Avalanche, but expect him to report to AHL Hartford once he clears waivers.
  • Rangers' Kotska Makes Season Debut

News: Mike Kostka registered a minus-2 with three shots on goal in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Islanders.
Analysis: Kotska and defensive partner Marc Staal combined for a minus-5 in the blowout loss. However, the most damaging stat of the night for Mike Kostka was his three giveaways on the night. Not exactly the impression the 28-year-old was looking to make in his Rangers' debut.
  • Rangers Recall Kostka

News: Mike Kostka was recalled from AHL Hartford on Friday.
Analysis: With Dan Boyle sidelined for the next four-to-six weeks with a broken hand, Mike Kostka will restore some depth along the Rangers blue line. It seems unlikely that he'll break into the lineup, however, as Matt Hunwick looks to be first in line to replace Boyle.
  • Rangers Waive Kostka

News: The Rangers placed Mike Kostka on waivers on Sunday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
Analysis: Mike Kostka scored four goals and seven assists in 28 games played with the Blackhawks and Lightning last season. New York already had a solid core of defensemen so Kostka would have been low on the depth chart if he made the team. He will have a low fantasy impact if he does see time in the NHL this year.
