Blackhawks' Brandon Mashinter: Recalled by Blackhawks

Mashinter was recalled by the Blackhawks on Monday. Mashinter's last NHL action came with the Rangers in 2013-14 when he went without a point in six games. He's collected seven points through the first 12 games for AHL Rockford so far this season, and it has earned him a promotion to the NHL squad. The 27-year-old winger has appeared in 23 total NHL games over the course of his career, but has yet to notch a point. He could make his season debut with the Blackhawks as soon as Thursday against the Devils.

  • Hawks' Mashinter Sent Down To Rockford

News: Mishinter cleared waivers and was sent to AHL Rockford, CBS Chicago reports.
Analysis: Mishinter, who was acquired from the Rangers last December, was thought to have made the Blackhawks' opening night roster as an enforcer. However, he suffered an injury late in the preseason, prompting the Blackhawks to re-sign Daniel Carcillo and drop Brandon Mashinter once he returned to full health. Mashinter could get a call to come up to the Blackhawks at some point later in the season if Carcillo falls victim to injury.
  • Blackhawks Place Mashinter On Waivers

News: Brandon Mashinter was placed on waivers by the Blackhawks on Sunday, Elliote Friedman of Hockey Night in Canada reports.
Analysis: Brandon Mashinter was a candidate to make the Blackhawks' roster before going down with an undisclosed injury. He was set to return in the near future, but will now either be claimed by another team or pass through waivers and end up in the AHL.
  • Blackhawks Place Mashinter On Injured Reserve

News: The Blackhawks placed Brandon Mashinter on injured reserve, retroactive to Oct. 1, with an undisclosed injury.
Analysis: The Blackhawks have not provided details of Brandon Mashinter's setback, but his injury will prevent him from being ready for Opening Night, and it remains to be seen when he will be able to play next.
  • Hawks' Mashinter Still Out With Injury

News: Brandon Mashinter did not practice on Sunday, ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis: Brandon Mashinter suffered the injury on Wednesday and did not play in the Blackhawks' final preseason game against the Rangers on Friday. He has played 23 games in the NHL and has not scored a point in those games. Mashinter will have a very low fantasy value, even in deeper leagues.
  • Blackhawks' Mashinter Nursing Injury

News: Brandon Mashinter will not play in the Blackhawks' exhibition finale Friday against the Rangers due to an undisclosed injury,'s Scott Powers reports.
Analysis: Brandon Mashinter suffered the injury in Wednesday's game against the Canadiens. The fourth-line enforcer was making a strong bid for an Opening Night gig with the Blackhawks prior to the injury, but Friday's addition of Daniel Carcillo to the training camp roster muddles the picture a bit.
  • Hawks' Mashinter Has Shot At Making Team

News: Brandon Mashinter has a good chance of making the Blackhawks' opening night roster as the team looks for enforcer to replace Brandon Bollig, CSN Chicago reports.
Analysis: Bollig was traded during the summer to Calgary and Blackhawks' coach Joel Quenneville wants to still have that physical, tough-guy element on the team. Quenneville has liked Brandon Mashinter's physical game so far during the preseason. He was acquired by the Hawks from Rangers last December.
  • Hawks' Mashinter Agrees To Extension

News: Brandon Mashinter agreed to a two-year contract extension with the Blackhawks on Wednesday, reports.
Analysis: A trade acquisition from the Rangers in December, Brandon Mashinter has played for the Rockford Icehogs of the AHL since joining the Blackhawks. The 25-year-old hasn't recorded a point in 23 career NHL games, but he's at least relatively low-cost organizational depth.
  • Blackhawks Acquire Mashinter

News: The Rangers traded Brandon Mashinter to the Blackhawks on Friday in exchange for Kyle Beach, ESPN New York's Katie Strang reports.
Analysis: Brandon Mashinter has seen limited time in the NHL each of the last three seasons, failing to show anything that would justify a lengthy stay at the highest level. His path to relevancy will likely only be more difficult now that he's a member of a deep Blackhawks organization.
  • Rangers Send Mashinter To AHL

News: Brandon Mashinter was assigned to AHL Hartford by the Rangers on Monday, Andrew Gross of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Brandon Mashinter has only played in six games this season for the Rangers and has not recorded any points on the scoring sheet. He does have 10 penalty minutes, but the Rangers will send him to the AHL to see more regular ice time and find his scoring touch again.
