Blue Jackets' Dalton Prout: Inks two-year extension

Prout signed a two-year contract extension with the Blue Jackets on Friday. At 6-foot-3, 230 pounds, Prout's biggest contributions come with being a physical presence along the blue line, amassing 124 hits and 87 PIM while collecting just eight points through 56 games this season. Still, he remains irrelevant in the majority of fantasy leagues but now has three points in the past four games. It's possible he'll improve over time, but he's probably not worth monitoring at the moment unless participating in the deepest of leagues.

Blue Jackets' Dalton Prout: Available against New Jersey

Prout (suspension) can return to action Saturday against the Devils after serving out his one-game suspension. Prout played in 24 consecutive contests for the Blue Jackets' prior to being suspended, so it is unlikely coach John Tortorella will leave him out of the depth chart given his gritty style suits the type of system Tortorella likes to implement. While he may be returning to the ice, the blueliner offers little in terms of fantasy value as he is stuck in a nine-game scoring rut and should remain benched from your fantasy lineup.

Blue Jackets' Dalton Prout: Suspended one game

Prout has been suspended one game for punching an unsuspecting opponent, Aaron Portzline of The Columbus Dispatch reports. Prout is currently riding a nine-game goalless streak, so he is unlikely to be missed from your daily lineups. The 26-year-old was probably saved from a longer suspension due to his previously clean record. The defenseman will miss Thursday's meeting with the Red Wings and then can return Saturday against the Devils.

Blue Jackets' Dalton Prout: Could face suspension for cheap shot

Prout could face a suspension or fine for his cheap shot on Lightning winger Nikita Kucherov during Sunday's game, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports. Prout sucker-punched the unsuspecting Kucherov and was subsequently given a 10-minute misconduct. It'll be a tough act to defend to the Department of Player Safety, but Prout probably won't miss more than a game or two, if that.

Blue Jackets' Dalton Prout: Nets first goal in Saturday's shootout loss

Prout scored his first goal of the season in Saturday's 3-2 shootout loss to the Bruins. He hadn't found the back of the net since March of 2014, so don't look for a repeat from Prout any time soon. The stay-at-home blueliner now has three points, 43 PIM and an ugly minus-14 rating in 32 games on the season.

Blue Jackets' Dalton Prout: Healthy Scratch

Prout is a healthy scratch Tuesday against the Sharks, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports. Prout started the first 12 games of the season, however, Fedor Tyutin will start in place of him in Tuesday's tilt. Prout is a healthy scratch indicating that coach Todd Richards believes that Tyutin deserves a shot to prove himself after Prout has failed to record a point in the past eight games.
