Blue Jackets' Michael Chaput: Assigned to AHL Lake Erie on Friday

Chaput was assigned to AHL Lake Erie on Friday. The 23-year-old forward never drew into the Blue Jackets' lineup during his brief stay with the big club, as Columbus opted to roll with recently recalled Josh Anderson in Thursday's game against Ottawa rather than Chaput. The former third-round draft pick will head back to AHL Lake Erie, where he has registered eight points (five goals, three assists) in 13 games this season.

Blue Jackets' Michael Chaput: Recalled by Blue Jackets

Chaput was recalled from AHL Lake Erie on Wednesday, Aaron Portzline of The Columbus Dispatch reports. Chaput has seen action in 50 NHL games over the last two seasons with the Blue Jackets, notching a total of six points over that span. After starting the season with eight points (five goals, three assists) with AHL Lake Erie to begin the season, the 23-year-old will replace the injured Jared Boll (foot) on the roster. He'll provide some depth among the forward ranks for the time being, but it's unclear how long his stay with the club will last.

    • Chaput Inks One-Year Deal With Blue Jackets

News: Michael Chaput signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Blue Jackets on Thursday.
Analysis: Michael Chaput suited up for 33 games with Columbus last season, tallying 5 points (one goal, four assists) in those contests. He fared better with AHL Springfield, registering 21 points (10 goals, 11 assists) in 45 games with the team. The 23-year-old will likely once again split time between the AHL and NHL in 2015-16.
    • Jackets Reassign Chaput

News: The Blue Jackets assigned Michael Chaput to AHL Springfield on Tuesday.
Analysis: Mark Letestu will finally make his return to the Jackets' lineup on Tuesday after missing 28 consecutive games due to injury. As such, Columbus no longer needs Michael Chaput to fill the void that existed at center during Letestu's absence. Chaput has tallied five points through 33 games with the Jackets this season.
    • Jackets' Chaput Scores First NHL Goal

News: Michael Chaput scored the first goal of his NHL career and racked up seven PIM in Thursday's overtime loss to Washington.
Analysis: He'd managed just five assists and no goals over his first 43 NHL games, but broke through at a pivotal moment Thursday, giving the Jackets a late 4-3 lead -- though they gave it back and went on to lose in overtime. As he sees fourth-line ice time and rarely so much as puts a shot on goal, there's not much fantasy value to be mined here.
    • Blue Jackets Recall Chaput From AHL

News: The Blue Jackets recalled Michael Chaput from AHL Springfield on Saturday, The Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Michael Chaput will return to Columbus after spending the last two weeks in the AHL. He tallied five points in five games with Springfield, but notched just two assists and zero goals in 18 games with Columbus earlier this season.
    • Jackets Reassign Chaput

News: The Blue Jackets assigned Michael Chaput to AHL Springfield on Wednesday.
Analysis: Michael Chaput had played in all 18 of the Jackets' games so far, recording two assists. He'll return to Springfield where he has 77 career points in 128 games.
    • Jackets' Chaput Making Push For Roster Spot

News: Michael Chaput had another strong exhibition game Monday, picking up an assist and winning seven of 12 faceoffs, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: With Ryan Johansen, Boone Jenner and Nathan Horton all now likely to miss the beginning of the regular season, Michael Chaput stands a good chance of making the NHL roster and centering the fourth line, which would allow coach Todd Richards to use Mark Letestu higher up in the lineup. Chaput wouldn't have much fantasy upside in that role, but he was able to provide some offense last season in the AHL, and once he gets a foot in the door he has the grit and skill to earn Richards' trust.
    • Jackets' Chaput Has Two-Point Night

News: Michael Chaput scored a goal and added an assist in Tuesday's 2-0 exhibition win over the Penguins.
Analysis: Coming off a solid AHL campaign in which he scored 19 goals and 45 points in 55 games, Michael Chaput isn't likely to break camp with the Blue Jackets but more strong preseason performances could put him at the front of the line for a callup when injuries hit.
    • Jackets Reassign Chaput

News: The Blue Jackets reassigned Michael Chaput to AHL Springfield on Wednesday.
Analysis: Michael Chaput will head to Springfield to free up a roster spot for goaltender Mike McKenna, who was recalled Wednesday due to Sergei Bobrovsky's recent lower body injury. Chaput has played in 17 games for the Jackets this season, recording one assist and two penalty minutes.
