Panthers' Erik Gudbranson: Tallies assist in loss

Gudbranson tallied an assist, posted a plus-1, blocked a shot and picked up three hits in Tuesday's overtime loss to the Penguins. Gudbranson isn't a big point producer, putting up a career-high 13 points in 76 games last year. The former third-overall pick in 2010 is one of the top defensemen on the team. While his point scoring may not shoot up, he's proven himself to be a dependable blue line option for the Panthers, but not much of a fantasy option.

Panthers' Erik Gudbranson: Tallies assist in Tuesday's win

Gudbranson tallied an assist in one shot on goal in Tuesday's victory over the Hurricanes. The 23-year-old Gudbranson has a penchant for logging heavy ice time and providing little offensive push. After posting a minus-41 rating over his first two seasons, he bounced-back to post just a minus-4 rating last season. The tall defenseman doesn't have much in the way of fantasy value.

    • Panthers' Gudbranson Out Against Devils

News: Erik Gudbranson (upper body) is out for Saturday's game against the Devils, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Erik Gudbranson took a hard hit from the Bruins' Brett Connolly and came out of Thursday's game as a result of it. The 23-year-old scored four goals and had nine assists while picking up 58 penalty minutes in 76 games this season.
    • Florida's Gudbranson Exits With Injury Thursday

News: Erik Gudbranson left Thursday's win over the Bruins with an upper-body injury, the Associated Press reports.
Analysis: Erik Gudbranson appeared to suffer the injury when he was the recipient of a hit from the Bruins' Brett Connolly. He's being categorized as day-to-day for the time being, and with only Saturday's game against the Devils remaining on the schedule for the Panthers, it's possible Gudbranson will just be shut down for the season.
    • Panthers' Gudbranson To Return To Lineup Saturday

News: Gubranson will return to the lineup Saturday after sitting out as a healthy scratch in Thursday's win over the Maple Leafs, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: The return of Steve Kampfer from a groin injury resulted in Erik Gudbranson getting sent to the press box, but coach Gerard Gallant seemed to imply that it was just a one-time decision. Look for Gudbranson, who has four goals and 12 points in 69 games this season, to displace Alex Petrovic from Saturday's lineup.
    • Panthers' Gudbranson Picks Up Assist In Loss

News: Erik Gudbranson picked up an assist in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Lightning.
Analysis: Erik Gudbranson isn't the most offensive minded defenseman, as the assist was his first point since Mar. 7. He has four goals and eight assists on the season and his 12 points are fourth among defensemen on the team. The former third overall pick in 2010 typically logs heavy ice time for the team, breaking the 20-minute mark five times in 10 games in March. His fantasy value is limited due to his low scoring numbers, but he can help normalize your ice time and will pick up more than the occasional penalty minute.
    • Panthers' Gudbranson Nets Fourth Of Year

News: Erik Gudbranson scored an unassisted goal in Saturday's 4-3 shootout victory over the Islanders.
Analysis: Erik Gudbranson is not a big point producer, but still found the back of the net for his fourth goal of the season. He's been logging 18:33 of ice time per game and and picks up penalty minutes on a semi-regular basis. He is not a bad fantasy option, but those not in deeper leagues should look elsewhere for help along the blue line.
    • Panthers' Gudbranson To Play Saturday

News: Erik Gudbranson (illness) will play Saturday against the Islanders, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: As the decision to send defenseman Shane O'Brien back to the minors on Friday seemed to foreshadow, Erik Gudbranson is fully recovered from his bout with the stomach flu that he endured earlier in the week. He was forced to sit out one game with the virus.
    • Panthers' Gudbranson Should Be Good To Go

News: Erik Gudbranson (illness) should be able to play in Saturday's game against the Islanders, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: The Panthers sent fellow defenseman Shane O'Brien back to AHL San Antonio, indicating that Erik Gudbranson will only be forced to miss one game due to the illness. Expect the Panthers to provide official word on Gudbranson's availability following Saturday's morning skate.
    • Panthers' Gudbranson (Illness) Out Thursday

News: Erik Gudbranson will miss Thursday's game against the Stars due to flu-like symptoms, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: The same goes for fellow defenseman Willie Mitchell, who was previously expected to make his return from an upper body injury. Alex Petrovic will likely slot into the lineup for Thursday's game, and the Panthers may need to recall a blueliner from AHL San Antonio. Erik Gudbranson and Mitchell can both be considered questionable for Saturday's game against the Islanders.
