News: The Oilers have placed Nikita Nikitin on the trade block, reports Edmonton Journal.
Analysis: The Oilers have several extra defensemen and would like to move one or two. Nikita Nikitin has never lived up to expectations since coming to Edmonton and is unlikely to bring any kind of windfall via a trade.

Analysis: The Oilers haven't formally indicated that Nikita Nikitin has been shut down for the season, but with only Saturday's game against the Canucks remaining on the schedule, that seems likely to be the case. The blueliner will sit out a third straight game Thursday, allowing David Musil to earn another nod on the Oilers' second defensive pairing.
    • Oilers' Nikitin Out Again Tuesday

News: Nikita Nikitin (undisclosed) will not play Tuesday against the Kings.
Analysis: Nikita Nikitin's absence will allow AHL call-up David Musil to earn a second straight nod in the lineup. It's not clear whether the Oilers plan on having Nikitin available for either of their final two games of the season, scheduled for Thursday and Saturday.

News: Nikita Nikitin (undisclosed) will not play Saturday against the Flames, Jack Michaels of the Oilers Radio Network reports.
Analysis: The origin of Nikita Nikitin's injury remains unknown, but the blueliner more than likely sustained it at some point during Thursday's loss to the Blues. The Oilers recalled David Musil from AHL Oklahoma City on an emergency basis to assume Nikitin's spot in Saturday's lineup.
    • Oilers' Nikitin To Play Wednesday

News: Nikita Nikitin (shoulder) will be activated from injured reserve and suit up Wednesday against the Blue Jackets, according to Jack Michaels of the Oilers' Radio Network.
Analysis: Perhaps a healthy Nikita Nikitin can now try to illustrate why Edmonton signed him to a two-year deal last summer. He's been a bust to date in his first season with the Oilers, accruing eight points and a minus-9 rating over 34 games.

News: Nikita Nikitin (shoulder) has been ruled out of Friday's game against the Blue Jackets, Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal reports.
Analysis: Nikita Nikitin's shoulder injury has kept him sidelined since Jan. 31. The team had hoped he'd be able to return to action Friday against Columbus, but it seems as though they'll opt to keep him out of the lineup until Monday against the Maple Leafs.
    • Oilers Targeting Friday For Nikitin's Return

News: It appears the Oilers are eyeing Friday against the Blue Jackets for Nikita Nikitin's (shoulder) return to action.
Analysis: There was some thought that Nikita Nikitin might be ready to play Thursday against the Penguins after Jordan Oesterle was reassigned to AHL Oklahoma City on Tuesday, but it looks like coach Todd Nelson will insert Keith Aulie back into the lineup. Rather than having to use Nikitin on both ends of a back-to-back set right away, the Oilers seem content to ease the blueliner back in the lineup by holding him out until Friday, which is followed by a two-game break in the team's schedule.
    • Oilers' Nikitin Close To A Return
