  • Sateri Given Qualifying Offer by Sharks

News: Harri Sateri was given a qualifying offer by the Sharks on Monday, ensuring they retain his negotiating rights.
Analysis: Harri Sateri is unlikely to sign a contract, as he inked a deal with Vityaz Podolsk of the KHL in May, saying that was best for his development. That must not have offended San Jose too much, as they've made an offer in order to retain his NHL rights. Don't expect to see him in a Sharks jersey anytime soon.
  • Sharks' Sateri Heads To KHL

News: Harri Sateri has agreed to a contract with Vityaz Podolsk of the KHL.
Analysis: The 24-year-old netminder was a fourth-round selection by the Sharks in 2008. He has yet to play in an NHL game after spending four seasons with the club's AHL affiliate in Worcester and lost out on the vacant backup job to Alex Stalock during camp before this season. Though Harri Sateri was unlikely to grab a starting job in San Jose for 2014-15, the long-term goaltending situation there is murky at best -- and his departure has only made it murkier.
  • Sharks Call Up Sateri

News: Harri Sateri has been brought up to the NHL, according to Kevin Kurz of CSN Bay Area.
Analysis: This is an insurance move, since the Sharks' AHL affiliate in Worcester has come to the end of their season. Antti Niemi, who has won both games in the opening round so far, is still the starter and Alex Stalock is still the backup.
  • Sateri Sent To AHL By Sharks

News: The Sharks have sent Harri Sateri to the AHL in their final round of cuts.
Analysis: Harri Sateri was battling to back up Antti Niemi, but that position will be going to Alex Stalock, at least to start the year. Meanwhile, Sateri will see a lot of action in AHL Worcester.
  • Sateri Backstops Sharks To OT Win

News: Harri Sateri stopped 24 of 26 shots in Saturday's preseason overtime win against Phoenix.
Analysis: This bodes well in his fight to beat out Alex Stalock for the backup job, but unless Antti Niemi gets hurt, Harri Sateri will spend the vast majority of his time at the end of the San Jose bench even if he makes the team.
  • Sateri To Dress In Sharks Pre-Season Opener

News: Harri Sateri continues to battle with Alex Stalock for the open spot backing up Antti Neimi, who is the clear starter in San Jose. Both Sateri and Stalock will be dressing for the Sharks pre-season opener in Vancouver, Curtis Pashelka of the Mercury News is reporting.
Analysis: While Coach Todd McLellan seems pleased with Harri Sateri's performance through the first four days of camp, Sateri has an uphill battle. Stalock had the better numbers last year, finishing the season in the AHL with a 17-16-4 record and a .912 save percentage, compared to Sateri's 14-21-3 record with a .903 save percentage. It's also worth noting that when former back-up goalie Thomas Greiss went down last year, it was Stalock who got the call-up. No matter who gets the job, steer clear of the back-up situation in San Jose. Behind Niemi there is nothing but paltry minutes and a lack of experience.
  • Sharks' Sateri Will Compete Against Stalock For Backup Job

News: Harri Sateri and Alex Stalock will compete for the backup goaltender job behind Antti Niemi, CSN Bay Area reports.
Analysis: Neither goaltender is viewed as a top prospect, and Stalock was a bit better with AHL Worcester last season. Barring a trade, the backup goalie spot looks like a weakness for the Sharks heading in to the 2013-14 season.
  • Sharks Send Sateri To AHL Worcester

News: The Sharks have moved Harri Sateri from Stockton of the ECHL to Worcester of the AHL, the San Jose Mercury News reports.
Analysis: Despite the apparent promotion, Harri Sateri doesn't offer any fantasy value outside of keeper leagues.
  • Sharks Send Sateri To ECHL Stockton

News: Harri Sateri was sent to Stockton of the ECHL on Saturday, the San Jose Mercury News reports.
Analysis: Harri Sateri returns to the lower ranks having yet to play an NHL game. He was an option for the Sharks with Antti Niemi (cyst) on the mend, but the latter is reportedly on track to start Monday night against the Ducks with Thomas Greiss expected to be relegated to backup duty.
  • SJ Backup Sateri Concludes Flawless Preseason

News: Harri Sateri was inserted for the third period of San Jose's preseason finale Saturday, against Phoenix. He turned aside all seven shots he faced, and ends the preseason with a Sv% of 1.000.
Analysis: Despite that perfect record, he will probably see spot duty at best in the regular season. With their two primary netminders injured, the Sharks have given the great majority of preseason crease time to Thomas Greiss. Harri Sateri, who's just 21, might start the season as a backup if Antti Niemi isn't ready to go when the puck drops. When Niemi returns to action, Sateri will probably be sent down for more playing time than he'd get with the parent club.
