Canadiens' Jarred Tinordi: In AHL for conditioning stint

Tinordi is heading down to St. John's of the American Hockey League for a two-week conditioning stint, the Montreal Gazette reports. Tinordi has been on Montreal's roster all season, but hasn't played in a game since the exhibition season. He certainly needs the work. It will give Tinordi a chance to prove he deserves to play in Montreal or to show another NHL team he has something to offer. His future with the Habs remains cloudy, but general manager Marc Bergevin doesn't want to risk losing him on waivers, which he'll need to do if he wants to assign Tinordi to St. John's, and hasn't been able to find a trading partner willing to meet his price.

    • Makes season-opening roster

News: Jarred Tinordi has made the Canadiens roster to start the season, Hockey Inside Out reports.
Analysis: Jarred Tinordi, who hasn't been particularly good during the preseason, was on the bubble but the Canadiens didn't want to risk exposing him to waivers. Now it's head coach Michel Therrien's challenge to find ice time for Tinordi, who is essentially the Habs' eighth defenseman.
    • Will start Saturday

News: Jarred Tinordi will be in the starting lineup in Saturday night's preseason finale against Ottawa, the Montreal Gazette reports.
Analysis: Jarred Tinordi's in a precarious spot. He's certainly not assured of making the opening-night roster and would be exposed to waivers if Montreal attempts to assign him to St. John's of the American Hockey League. If the Habs don't keep eight defensemen, they may deal Tinordi before the season opener.
    • Tinordi Re-Signs With Canadiens

News: Jarred Tinordi signed a one-year (two-way) contract with the Canadiens on Wednesday.
Analysis: Jarred Tinordi is still recovering from wrist surgery he underwent in April, but should be ready for Montreal's training camp in September. The Canadiens are deep at defense, so Tinordi will likely spend the majority of the 2015-16 season continuing to develop in the AHL. He played in 13 games with the Canadiens last season, tallying a total of two points in those contests.
    • Habs' Tinordi Undergoes Wrist Surgery

News: Jarred Tinordi underwent surgery on his wrist Monday and will require 2-to-3 months of rehab, Marc Antoine Godin of La Presse reports.
Analysis: The Canadiens seem optimistic that Jarred Tinordi will be ready to go for training camp, but the injury will nonetheless prevent him from joining the parent club during its playoff run. Tinordi, 23, produced seven points in 44 games for Hamilton this season.
    • Habs' Tinordi Out Three Weeks

News: Jarred Tinordi will miss at least the next three weeks while suffering an upper-body injury while playing with AHL Hamilton, Dave Stubbs of the Montreal Gazette reports.
Analysis: The team's medical staff will reevaluate Jarred Tinordi after he takes some time off to recover from the injury. With the NHL postseason set to begin around the same time Tinordi could possibly return, the Habs likely won't consider bringing him aboard for their playoff run. The 23-year-old previously appeared in 13 games with the big club this season, producing two points and a minus-5 rating.
    • Habs' Tinordi Reassigned To AHL Hamilton

News: Jarred Tinordi was reassigned to AHL Hamilton on Friday, Dave Stubbs of the Montreal Gazette reports.
Analysis: The 23-year-old defenseman has two points and 19 PIM in 13 NHL games this season, averaging 12:04 of ice time. His demotion hints that Sergei Gonchar (upper body) may be ready to rejoin the lineup.
    • Habs' Tinordi Makes Impression

News: Jarred Tinordi suited up on the third defensive pair Thursday night and skated 11:39 in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Panthers. He had two hits and seven minutes in penalties.
Analysis: Jarred Tinordi had a couple of first-period give-aways, but played better as the game went on. He laid out Florida's Thomas Fleischmann with a jarring third-period hit that elicited a fighting response from Alex Petrovic. He was given an extra interference penalty on top of the five-minute major, which led to Florida's game-tying goal seconds after the two-minute minor ended. Tinordi made some mistakes, but he appears to be improved from his first stint with the Habs back in November. He'll be around for the next week at least while Alexei Emelin and Sergei Gonchar recover from upper-body dings.
    • Canadiens' Tinordi Called Up, Will Play Wednesday

News: Jarred Tinordi was recalled from AHL Hamilton on Wednesdays, and he will play Thursday against the Panthers.
Analysis: Jarred Tinordi will presumably suit up in place of Alexei Emelin, who exited Wednesday's game with an upper-body injury. Tinordi tallied two assists and seven PIM in nine games with the Canadiens earlier this season.
    • Habs' Tinordi (Head) Returning Friday

News: Jarred Tinordi (head) will return to action for AHL Hamilton on Friday.
Analysis: The blueliner was initially ruled out indefinitely after suffering a head injury last Friday, but it looks like he avoided any lasting effects. Jarred Tinordi has recorded three points in 25 games this season for Hamilton.
