Panthers' Alex Petrovic: Set to return Wednesday

Petrovic (foot) will return to the lineup Wednesday night against the Ducks, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports. Petrovic exited Saturday's contest against the Capitals after the second period due to the foot issue, but fortunately for him the Panthers have not played since then giving him ample time to shake off the ailment. He'll reportedly be paired with Dmitry Kulikov on the third defensive unit Wednesday evening.

Panthers' Alex Petrovic: Suffers foot injury Saturday

Petrovic missed the third period of Saturday's game against the Capitals with a foot injury that is not believed to be serious, Harry Fialkov of the Sun Sentinel reports. Fortunately for Petrovic, the Panthers don't have a game until Wednesday in Anaheim. It seems unlikely that he'd sit out Wednesday, but fellow defenseman Steve Kampfer will be waiting in the wings just in case Petrovic is ruled out.

    • Petrovic Signs Two-Year Deal With Panthers

News: Alex Petrovic inked a two-year (one-way) contract with the Panthers on Wednesday.
Analysis: The 23-year-old defender will get a chance to secure a roster spot with the Panthers in training camp, but will likely split time between the AHL and NHL once again in 2015-16. He will, however, be one of the first players the Panthers turn to in case of injury or poor performance. He suited up for 33 games with the big club last season, tallying a total of three points in those contests. As one would expect, he fared much better in the 41 games he played with AHL San Antonio in 2014-15, registering a total of 20 points in those games.
    • Panthers' Petrovic Assigned To AHL

News: Alex Petrovic was reassigned to San Antonio of the AHL on Monday, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Alex Petrovic will head back to San Antonio for the AHL playoffs, joining teammate Vincent Trocheck. Petrovic recorded three assists and 34 penalty minutes in 33 appearances for Florida this season.
    • Panthers' Petrovic Posts Positive Rating In Loss

News: Alex Petrovic posted a plus-1 rating in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Lightning.
Analysis: Since getting called up from AHL San Antonio on Jan. 29, Alex Petrovic hasn't seen much of the scoresheet, picking up only two points in 24 games. Petrovic has an even plus-minus on the season and has watched his ice time continue to point in the right direction, as he logged a season-high 20:48 on Tuesday. Petrovic has limited fantasy value due to his meager point totals, but the former second-round pick could provide help down the line.
    • Panthers' Petrovic Contributes In Thursday's Win

News: Alex Petrovic posted a plus-1 and picked up five penalty minutes in 13:41 of ice time against the Canadiens on Thursday.
Analysis: Since getting called up on Jan. 29, Alex Petrovic only has one point, but posted a positive plus/minus for the second time in his 12 games with the Panthers. The third period fight more than doubled his penalty minute total for the season from four to nine. He was a good point producer for the San Antonio Rampage, the team's AHL affiliate, posting 19 points in 39 games before his call-up. The 22-year-old could flourish into a top-four defenseman, but right now, he has limited fantasy value.
    • Panthers Recall Petrovic

News: Alex Petrovic was recalled from AHL San Antonio on Wednesday.
Analysis: Alex Petrovic was likely recalled to provide the Panthers with a seventh defenseman, but it could also be an indication that one of the top six is dealing with an injury. The 22-year-old has amassed 19 points (three goals, 16 assists) in 39 games for AHL San Antonio, which ranks seventh among defensemen in the league.
    • Panthers Send Petrovic To Minors

News: Alex Petrovic was assigned to AHL San Antonio on Friday, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: With Alex Petrovic's demotion, the battle for the Panthers' seventh defenseman spot will come down to Colby Robak and camp tryout Shane O'Brien. Petrovic has appeared in a total of 13 games with the Panthers over the past two seasons, registering only one point but earning 33 penalty minutes.
