• Canucks' Tanev Assists Twice In Win

News: Chris Tanev earned two assists in Friday's Game 2 win over the Canucks.
Analysis: After wrapping up a career-best 20-point season last weekend, Chris Tanev remained productive in Game 2, setting up the second and fourth Vancouver tallies of the evening. While it's possible the 25-year-old will attain some more offensive involvement in future seasons, he doesn't score quite frequently enough at this stage to attract much interest in fantasy circles.
  • Canucks' Tanev Bags Two Points Again

News: Chris Tanev dished out a pair of assists in Monday's 4-1 win over the Blues.
Analysis: Chris Tanev just reached the 20-point plateau with the multi-point effort, but it's now the second consecutive contest in which he's collected a pair of assists. The 25-year-old entered the weekend with just two multi-point outings on the season -- the first of which came in the opening game of the year. Despite his impressive back-to-back performances, Tanev hasn't found the back of the net himself since Dec. 20 and likely won't get on the scoresheet with as much regularity going forward.
  • Canucks' Tanev Logs Two Assists

News: Chris Tanev registered a pair of assists in Saturday's loss to Dallas.
Analysis: While it was a good offensive night for Chris Tanev, he was a mess defensively, finishing a minus-2. The 25-year-old now has a career-high 18 points in 63 games, while averaging 20:59 of ice time. He shows flashes of offensive brilliance and his plus-9 rating is solid, but with just 48 shots on goal and two power-play points, Tanev's fantasy value is mostly restricted to deeper formats.
  • Canucks Extend Tanev

News: Chris Tanev signed a five-year, $22.25 million contract extension with the Canucks on Tuesday, the team's official site reports.
Analysis: The blueliner recorded an assist Sunday against the Coyotes to giving him 16 points in 60 games to date, but he earned the extension more for his work in front of the Vancouver net. By both traditional (plus-10 rating) and advanced (plus-5.44 Corsi 5-on-5; third on the team), the Canucks are a better unit when Chris Tanev is on the ice. He'll continue to see 20-plus minutes per game on the top pairing with Alex Edler.
  • Canucks' Tanev (Upper Body) Will Play Monday

News: Chris Tanev (upper body) will play Monday against the Ducks.
Analysis: Chris Tanev suffered a setback in his recovery process last week, but it appears he is ready to go for Monday's contest. Given that he needs to go through protocol before returning, there's no reason to believe he shouldn't be fine moving forward.
  • Canucks' Tanev Suffers Setback

News: Chris Tanev (concussion) appears to have suffered a setback in the recovery process, Blake Price of TSN 1040 AM reports.
Analysis: After Chris Tanev participated in practice Saturday, the Canucks were hoping to have him available for Tuesday's game against the Sharks, but those plans were dashed when the blueliner failed to get back on the ice the last two days. The extent of Tanev's setback remains uncertain at this time, but the Canucks have recalled Frank Corrado from AHL Utica in the interim to fill out their blue line.
  • Canucks' Tanev Practices Saturday

News: Chris Tanev (head) returned to practice Saturday, Elliott Pap of the Vancouver Sun reports.
Analysis: Chris Tanev looked to be a full participant in the session, joining Luca Sbisa as part of a regular pairing. While such involvement would normally indicate his availability for the Canucks' game Sunday against the Blues, Tanev said after the workout that he would "probably not" be able to play in the contest. Assuming that holds true, Tanev's next chance to play would come Tuesday against the Sharks.
  • Canucks' Tanev Resumes Skating

News: Chris Tanev (upper body) resumed skating back in Vancouver on Wednesday, Jeff Paterson of TSN 1040 AM reports.
Analysis: Chris Tanev isn't traveling with the Canucks on their road trip and won't have a shot at playing until the team returns home for a Mar. 1 tilt with the Blues. More likely, though, he'll probably need a few days beyond that date in order for him to pick up some practice time with the rest of the team.
  • Canucks Place Tanev On IR

News: The Canucks placed Chris Tanev (undisclosed) on injured reserve over the weekend.
Analysis: The team was in need of an extra forward for Sunday's game against the Islanders, so Chris Tanev was placed on IR to facilitate the call-up of Nicklas Jensen from AHL Utica. Tanev has been out since Feb. 14 with the injury, so he'll be eligible to return to action as soon as the Canucks feel he's fully healthy.
  • Canucks' Tanev Likely Out For Five-Game Road Trip

News: Chris Tanev (undisclosed) didn't travel with the rest of the team to New York for the beginning of the Canucks' five-game road trip, Brad Ziemer of the Vancouver Sun reports.
Analysis: While it's still plausible Chris Tanev could join the team at some point in the trip, it's more likely that's he's not viewed as especially close to a return. Expect the team to provide more information regarding the nature and extent of his injury in the coming days.
