St. Louis Blues' Vladimir Tarasenko Scores Breakaway Goal in Season Opener

Tarasenko scored a breakaway goal in Thursday's Opening Night win against the Oilers. The dynamic Russian forward showed how easy it is for him to score, tying the game 1-1 at 9:10 of the second period. After a bad change by the Oilers, Alex Pietrangelo sprung Tarasenko on a breakaway. He settled the pass and sent a quick wrist shot past Cam Talbot for his first goal of the season. Tarasenko was named first star of the game and finished with three shots in 17:04. He scored a career-high 37 goals last season, and while its just the first game, there's no reason he can't eclipse that number in 2015-16.

  • Pots another preseason goal

News: Vladimir Tarasenko scored a goal on five shots Tuesday in a preseason win over the Stars.
Analysis: Vladimir Tarasenko will look to build on last year's breakout season and is already getting warmed up with seven points in three preseason games.
  • Blues Sign Tarasenko To Extension

News: The Blues signed Vladimir Tarasenko to an eight-year, $60 million extension Tuesday, ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Vladimir Tarasenko is coming off a breakout campaign in which he racked up 37 goals -- many of the breathtaking variety -- and 73 points in 77 games for the Blues, to go along with a plus-27 rating. Thanks to his lucrative extension, the 23-year-old winger is now under contract with the team through the 2022-23 season, at an annual cap hit of $7.5 million. The deal makes him the highest-paid member of the Blues, but if Tarasenko remains among the league's scoring leaders the next few several seasons, the contract will probably go down as a bargain.
  • Tarasenko The Whole Of The Blues' Attack In Game 5

News: Vladimir Tarasenko scored the first goal of Friday's Game 5 against the Wild, but it would represent the entirety of the Blues' output in the 4-1 defeat.
Analysis: Vladimir Tarasenko has absolutely feasted on the Wild during the past six games, with the first of those contests coming in the regular-season finale April 11. During that span, the Russian sniper has netted an absurd seven goals and two assists, including the winning tallies in Games 2 and 4. Even if the Blues -- who trail 3-2 in the series -- end up exiting the postseason after one round, those who selected Tarasenko in pool play have probably received sufficient return on their investment.
  • Blues' Tarasenko Scores Twice In Game 4 Win

News: Vladimir Tarasenko scored twice Wednesday in a 6-1 Game 4 win over the Wild. He went plus-2 and took three shots while delivering two hits in the contest.
Analysis: Vladimir Tarasenko has racked up five goals in these playoffs so far, but it's been a tale of two series for him -- all five came on eight shots in the two games the Blues have won, but he tallied no goals or shots in their two losses. He'll look to reverse that trend Friday in Game 5 at home.
  • Tarasenko On An Offensive Tear For St. Loo

News: Vladimir Tarasenko potted a hat trick in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Wild.
Analysis: Geez -- do you think this guy loves to play Minny? He has four goals and two assists between the season's last game, also against the Wild, and two playoff games. He's clearly not intimidated by the bright lights of the postseason.
  • Blues' Tarasenko Returns And Stars ... Again

News: Vladimir Tarasenko (lower body) returned to action Saturday against Minnesota and was named the game's first star after scoring a goal and added an assist in a 4-2 win.
Analysis: Welcome back, Vlad -- you're ready for the postseason. His 73 points this season game in just 77 games. He's a good postseason option IF you think the Blues can advance a couple rounds.
  • Blues' Tarasenko Returning For Season Finale

News: Coach Ken Hitchcock announced Vladimir Tarasenko (lower body) would return for Saturday's regular-season finale against the Wild, Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Vladimir Tarasenko missed the last five games and appeared likely to stay out until the postseason, but the Blues signed off on the forward's return after he was able to put in a full practice with the rest of the team Friday. With the Blues still in contention for the top seed in the Western Conference, Tarasenko's return will give the team an added scoring boost while affording him the opportunity to reestablish some continuity with his linemates after the absence. He leads the Blues with 36 goals and 71 points on the campaign.
  • Blues' Tarasenko Skates Thursday Morning

News: Vladimir Tarasenko (lower body) skated Thursday morning, NHL.com's Lou Korac reports.
Analysis: The Blues have been tight-lipped about Vladimir Tarasenko's activity since he sustained the injury last Monday, but he joined the full team for the first time Thursday. It's still unclear when Tarasenko may resume practicing in full with the Blues, making it quite unlikely that he suits up for the team's final regular-season game Saturday against the Wild.
  • Blues Rule Out Tarasenko For Thursday

News: Vladimir Tarasenko (lower body) will not play Thursday against the Blackhawks, NHL.com's Lou Korac reports.
Analysis: It's the fifth straight game that the All-Star winger will be forced to miss due to the injury. Vladimir Tarasenko was absent from Wednesday's optional skate, and unless he's able to get on the ice for practice Friday, he'll have little chance of suiting up in the regular-season finale Saturday versus the Wild.
