Penguins' Tim Erixon: Recalled from minors Friday

The Penguins have recalled Erixon from AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Jenn Menendez of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. While Erixon is a well-rounded blueliner in the Pens' system, he doesn't play enough with the parent club to warrant serious consideration in most fantasy pools.

Penguins' Tim Erixon: Assigned to AHL on Thursday

The Penguins assigned Erixon to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Thursday. Erixon was sent to the AHL in order to make room for Bryan Rust on the Penguins 23-man roster. Rust will provide the team with additional depth up front while Beau Bennett works his way back from injury, so Erixon may be recalled by Pittsburgh once Bennett is ready to return to the Penguin's lineup.

    • Erixon Packaged To Pittsburgh In Kessel Trade

News: Tim Erixon was traded Wednesday to the Penguins along with forwards Phil Kessel and Tyler Biggs and a 2016 second-round draft pick in exchange for forwards Nick Spaling and Kasperi Kapanen, defenseman Scott Harrington, and first- and third-round draft picks in 2016, Sportsnet.ca reports.
Analysis: Tim Erixon was expected to enjoy a regular role with Toronto in 2015-16, but his path to ice time is a bit more muddled upon landing in Pittsburgh. The 24-year-old showed some semblance of offensive upside in the minors while he was a member of the Blue Jackets organization, but it has yet to materialize quite yet at the NHL level. In 93 career games, he's managed only two goals and 12 assists.
    • Leafs Re-Sign Erixon For One Year

News: Tim Erixon re-signed with the Maple Leafs on Tuesday to a one-year, $600,000 contract, Frank Seravalli of TSN reports.
Analysis: Tim Erixon spent time in the NHL with the Blue Jackets, Blackhawks, and Leafs last season, generating only two goals and five assists in 42 games. Though he's already bounced around five organizations in his career, the 24-year-old Erixon still possesses some semblance of upside. With the Buds expected to lean heavily on young defensemen next season, Erixon should have a chance at playing his way into a longer-term contract.

Analysis: The 24-year-old was previously off the ice with an illness but it now appears that he simply doesn't have a spot in coach Peter Horachek's lineup. As a result, Tim Erixon is a lackluster option across all formats until he sees some time on the ice.

News: Tim Erixon (illness) will not play in Saturday's game against the Canucks, Paul Hendrick of Leafs TV reports.
Analysis: Tim Erixon was originally on track to play in Saturday's game, but was scratched right before the puck dropped because he was too ill to take the ice. He should be considered day-to-day ahead of Monday's game against the Oilers.
