• Placed on waivers

News: Jason Akeson was cut by the Sabres and placed on waivers Saturday, reports TSN's Bob McKenzie.
Analysis: Jason Akeson will report to AHL Rochester if he goes unclaimed. The 25-year-old winger turned pro as an undrafted free agent with Philadelphia, but his lack of size and all-round game has seen him toil in the minors over the past four seasons. He's become a prolific scorer in the AHL, leading the Flyers' AHL affiliate in scoring three straight years, not unlike teammate Phil Varone, who was cut earlier in camp. Akeson will be one of Buffalo's first call-ups should the need arise.
  • Sabres Sign Winger Akeson

News: Jason Akeson signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Sabres on Wednesday, reports John Vogl of The Buffalo News.
Analysis: The undrafted winger has been very productive for the Flyers' AHL affiliate over the past two seasons, scoring 117 points in 127 games. However, Jason Akeson was held without a point in 13 games with the Flyers this past season, and was subsequently allowed to walk as an unrestricted free agent. He'll provide some scoring depth for Buffalo in the minors, but will have to battle for a roster spot in training camp.
  • Flyers Reassign Akeson

News: Jason Akeson was reassigned to AHL Lehigh Valley on Monday.
Analysis: Jason Akeson appeared in the Flyers' regular-season finale Saturday against the Senators, seeing 13:21 of action. Over 13 games with the Flyers this season, Akeson failed to score a single point, a surprise development after he lit up the AHL ranks for 22 goals and 51 points in 53 games. At 24 years old, he's not really much of prospect at this stage and may be considered little more than organizational depth.
  • Flyers Recall Akeson From AHL

News: Jason Akeson was recalled from AHL Lehigh Valley on Saturday.
Analysis: Jason Akeson will enter the lineup for Saturday's season finale against the Senators with Vincent Lecavalier ruled out with a concussion. The winger was one of the leading scorers for Lehigh Valley with an impressive 22 goals and 29 assists over 53 games, but he floundered during his 12-game stay with the Flyers earlier this season, producing no points before being placed on waivers.
  • Flyers' Akeson Sent Down To AHL

News: Jason Akeson will be sent back down to AHL Lehigh Valley on Saturday, Randy Miller of NJ.com reports.
Analysis: Jason Akeson was called up earlier in the day Saturday, but was scratched from the lineup against San Jose. Oliver Lauridsen and Mark Alt were also sent down to the AHL after Saturday's game.
  • Flyers Bring Back Akeson From Minors

News: Jason Akeson was recalled from AHL Lehigh Valley on Saturday, Tim Panaccio of CSN Philadelphia reports.
Analysis: Jason Akeson will give the Flyers some depth after both Wayne Simmonds (leg) and RJ Umberger (hip) were recently ruled out for the season. After claiming an opening night roster spot for the Flyers, Akeson was demoted to the minors in November after failing to register a point in any of his 12 games.
  • Flyers Send Akeson To AHL

News: The Flyers have sent Jason Akeson to AHL Lehigh Valley.
Analysis: Jason Akeson was called up by the Flyers in case Matt Read (flu) wasn't able to play Saturday against the Sabres, but Read ended up playing, with Akeson thus made a healthy scratch by the team.
  • Flyers Recall Akeson

News: Jason Akeson was recalled from AHL Lehigh Valley on Saturday.
Analysis: The Flyers moved defenseman Braydon Coburn (lower body) to open up the 23-man roster spot for Jason Akeson. With Scott Laughton nursing an upper-body ailment, Akeson's arrival will help the Flyers restore some depth at forward. However, Akeson's opportunities to join the lineup could be limited, as he was a total non-factor after earning a roster spot with the parent club out of training camp. He was held without a point over 12 games with Philadelphia before getting placed on waivers.
  • Flyers' Akeson Clears Waivers

News: Jason Akeson cleared waivers and was assigned to AHL Lehigh Valley on Friday.
Analysis: The 24-year-old went unclaimed after failing to muster a single point over 12 games with the Flyers. Playing outside of a top-six role seemed to be his downfall with the Flyers, but he's proven to be a potent scorer in the AHL when he receives more consistent minutes.
  • Flyers Waive Akeson

News: Jason Akeson was waived by the Flyers on Thursday, Darren Dreger of TSN reports.
Analysis: Jason Akeson received the opportunity to compete for a top-six role with the Flyers in training camp, but was never able to gain much momentum in the job battle. Forced to settle for checking-line duties for most of the season, Akeson has predictably struggled to provide much offense, accumulating no points and seven shots on goal over 12 games. The Flyers will hope to sneak him back to AHL Lehigh Valley in an attempt to help him rediscover his scoring touch.
