Blue Jackets' Cam Atkinson: Extends point streak to four games Friday

Atkinson scored the overtime winner in Friday's 2-1 victory over the Penguins. He's now got a point in each of his last four games and seven of his last nine, scoring three goals with four assists over that stretch. Some multi-point efforts would be nice, but Atkinson seems to be re-establishing him chemistry with center Brandon Dubinsky, and has been rewarded with time on the second power play unit as well. With 15 points (six goals, nine assists) in 23 games, Atkinson is well on his way to setting a new career high in points while notching his third straight 20-goal campaign.

Blue Jackets' Cam Atkinson: Pots goal in loss

Atkinson scored his fifth goal of the season in Sunday's loss to the Sharks. Atkinson has now recorded a point in four of the last five games, as he's turned his season around since being a healthy scratch about a month ago. The 26-year-old ended each of the past two seasons with 40 points and is on pace to top that mark with 13 points through 21 contests.

Blue Jackets' Cam Atkinson: Streaking since healthy scratch

Atkinson scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal in Tuesday's win over New Jersey, potting his second of the year in the middle of the third period. He finished plus-2 with four shots. Since being made a healthy scratch a week prior, Atkinson's emerged with a far higher level of play, taking 11 shots and tallying points in three consecutive games. That's quite the contrast to his first six games of the year, during which he tallied three points and a minus-7 rating while taking 12 shots on goal. He may be small, but Atkinson has a high-flying offensive game and could very well see his point totals rise this year if the Blue Jackets can keep up the improved play they've shown so far under new coach John Tortorella.

Blue Jackets' Cam Atkinson: Healthy scratch Tuesday

Atkinson will be a healthy scratch Tuesday night against the Islanders. The diminuitive winger has three points in twice as many games to start the season, but his minus-7 rating has him tied with center William Karlsson for third worst on a team still searching for its first win. David Clarkson reportedly will take his place on the right wing, while the Jackets are also expecting Brandon Dubinsky back from an illness.

    • Posts just one point in four preseason games

News: Cam Atkinson finished the preseason with a single assist in four games.
Analysis: He'll begin the season on the Blue Jackets' third line with Scott Hartnell and Alexander Wennberg, a unit that has some scoring ability. Cam Atkinson won't play a ton on the man advantage initially, so don't expect a sudden explosion over-and-above the 40 points he's posted in each of the last two seasons unless he gets more power-play time.
    • Jackets' Atkinson Nets Game-Winner Friday

News: Cam Atkinson scored the game-winning goal Friday against the Sabres.
Analysis: With eight goals in his last 15 games, Cam Atkinson now has 21 goals on the season -- 73rd in the NHL. While the Jackets may be eliminated from playoff contention, Atkinson, who is currently skating on the top line with Ryan Johansen, makes for a decent fantasy play in deeper formats Saturday against the Islanders.
    • Jackets' Atkinson Good To Go Friday

News: Cam Atkinson (hand) appears set to play Friday against the Sabres.
Analysis: Cam Atkinson required stitches after he was slashed by a teammate's skate during the ensuing celebration following Wednesday's win over the Maple Leafs, but it looks like he sustained nothing more than some cosmetic damage. The winger was able to participate fully during Friday's morning skate, and should be worth keeping active in deeper leagues versus the Sabres, the league's worst team.
    • Jackets' Atkinson Requires Stitches After Win

News: Cam Atkinson was cut on the hand by teammate Alexander Wennberg's skate after the team celebrated Wednesday's 5-0 win over the Maple Leafs, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Cam Atkinson required 10 stitches to seal the wound, but otherwise appeared to avoid more serious damage. The Blue Jackets haven't provided an update on Atkinson's condition just yet, so consider him questionable for Friday's game against the Sabres until more information is provided.
    • Jackets' Atkinson Stays Hot Saturday

News: Cam Atkinson notched a goal and assist in Saturday's win over the Blues
Analysis: Cam Atkinson followed up his hat trick from a night earlier with his third multi-point performance in as many games. Atkinson has a whopping seven goals and five assists over his last 10 contests, making him an easy activation right now while he's rolling. Go ahead and scoop him off the waiver wire if he's still out there.
    • Atkinson's Hatty Leads Jackets Past Blackhawks

News: Cam Atkinson scored a hat trick and fired six shots on goal in Friday's win over Chicago.
Analysis: That's five points in two games for Cam Atkinson, who has managed 19 goals and 35 points in 70 games on the season. Skating on the top line with Ryan Johansen, Atkinson has scored six goals in his last eight games and has recorded at least one point in seven of his last nine games. The 25-year-old has been a fantasy stud this season, potting six power-play goals, six game-winning goals and recording 193 shots on goal. Atkinson, who is sporting a plus-5 rating over his last three games, should be rolled out with confidence right now, as the surging Blue Jackets have won eight of their last nine games.
