Senators' Mark Borowiecki: Practicing as a forward

Borowiecki wore the red forward jersey in practice Monday, Wayne Scanlan of the Ottawa Citizen reports. Borowiecki has traditionally skated on the team's blue line, and could end up staying there during games, but filled in up front after Mark Hoffman left practice early. The 26-year-old likely won't factor too heavily onto the scoresheet though, as his main value lies in hits, PIM, and blocked shots.

Analysis: Mark Borowiecki is hoping to avoid surgery to address the matter, but even if that is deemed necessary, it shouldn't impact his availability for the start of upcoming campaign. The defenseman finished 2014-15 with 11 points, 107 PIM, and 233 hits over 63 games.

Analysis: Mark Borowiecki has produced two of his nine points on the season in the last three games, but that shouldn't be taken as a sign that an offensive outbreak is imminent. He's only attempted one shot over that span, instead delivering most of his most value in the form of hits and blocked shots.

He was cleared to resume skating over a week ago and doesn't seem to be feeling any restrictions with his leg, putting him on the cusp of a return to action. The blueliner, who skated with Patrick Wiercioch on the Sens' third pairing at Wednesday's practice, could be activated from IR in advance of Thursday's tilt with the Stars.
