Rangers' Dylan McIlrath: Set to play Tuesday

McIlrath will draw into the lineup Tuesday night against the Capitals, Brett Cyrgalis of the New York Post reports. McIlrath is a spare defenseman for the Rangers, hence the fact that he has only made one appearance for the Blueshirts so far. However, he does have the ability to chip in and shut down the opposition, which will be an especially important role Tuesday as the Rangers face a Capitals team that currently leads the Metropolitan Division and features arguably the best player in the league in Alex Ovechkin. Dan Boyle reportedly will warm the pine to make room for McIlrath.

A former first round draft pick (2010), McIlrath will dress for the first time this season against his hometown Jets. The 23-year-old will be replacing a struggling Dan Boyle, but play on the team's third defensive pairing with Keith Yandle. Even if he manages to stay in the line-up beyond tomorrow, outside of some penalty minutes, he's not likely to provide any production for fantasy owners.

News: Dylan McIlrath logged nine penalty minutes in just eight minutes of total ice time during Monday's 4-3 loss to St. Louis.
Analysis: Making his season debut on Broadway, the former 10th overall pick (2010) wasted no time finding his way to the penalty box. After registering matching roughing penalties with Ian Cole early in the first period, the 22-year-old bruiser not only dropped the gloves with Ryan Reaves, but added a third period tripping call for good measure. Although he's not likely to contribute offensively, the penalty minutes are enticing (16 penalty minutes in three career games). Nevertheless, his stay with the club will likely consist of third pairing ice time and end with the return of Kevin Klein and/or Ryan McDonagh later this month.
