Hurricanes' Ryan Murphy: Records 10 helpers this season

Murphy finished the 2015-16 season with 10 assists and 10 PIM in 35 games for the Hurricanes. With Carolina out of the playoff mix, the 23-year-old blueliner will finish up the campaign in the AHL with Charlotte, where he has recorded 22 points in 30 games for the Checkers this season. Murphy -- who the Hurricanes took 12th overall in the 2011 NHL entry draft -- has yet to solidify himself as a key cog on the Carolina blue line, but the 5-foot-11, 185-pounder does retain some upside down the road, thanks to his mobility and the offensive potential that he possesses as a future power play option.

Hurricanes' Ryan Murphy: Contributes two helpers in win

Murphy notched a pair of assists, a plus-1 rating and two PIM in Thursday's 4-3 win over the Rangers. That's an awfully nice way to celebrate your 23rd birthday, now isn't it? Although he continues to come along slowly due to limited minutes, Murphy's at least cracked double-digit points, as he's now up to 10 (all assists) in 31 games this year. That's not much, but Murphy has the draft pedigree and the AHL track record to suggest he's got bigger things ahead of him in the next few years.

Hurricanes' Ryan Murphy: Ready to return Tuesday

Coach Bill Peters indicated Monday that Murphy (upper body) will be ready to play Tuesday against the Sabres. After missing out on Saturday's contest against the Wild because of the issue, it appears a couple days of rest has done the trick. The 22-year-old blueliner doesn't see a ton of ice time (averaging 17:43 this season), but his presence on the power play leaves him in consideration as a cheap daily option. Murphy remains without much utility in season-long formats, however.

Hurricanes' Ryan Murphy: Out of lineup Saturday

Murphy (upper body) will not suit up against the Wild on Saturday. Murphy is still searching for his opening goal of the season, but will have to look for it Tuesday when they face the Sabres. Although he is averaging over two minutes of power-play ice time per night, the 22-year-old has tallied a lone helper with the man advantage, which depresses his fantasy value. The defenseman will be replaced in the lineup by fellow blueliner Trevor Carrick.

Hurricanes' Ryan Murphy: Questionable for Saturday

Murphy is considered questionable for Saturday's game against the Wild due to an upper-body injury. Murphy's status should be updated again on game day, but the team recalled Trevor Carrick as insurance in if he can't go. The blueliner has been somewhat productive for the Canes over 26 contests this season, collecting seven assists over that span, but remains out of consideration in the majority of fantasy leagues.

Hurricanes' Ryan Murphy: Notches two big assists in win

Murphy notched a pair of key assists and went plus-2 in Tuesday's 4-3 shootout win against the Senators. The helpers were opportune indeed, as Murphy assisted on Jeff Skinner's first goal to cut a 2-0 Ottawa lead in half, then got a piece of Skinner's game-tying second goal in the third-period's final moments. Although he only got a secondary assist, Murphy was as responsible as anyone for that goal, with his confident pinch into the offensive zone keeping the play alive and leading to Victor Rask's play out in front that Skinner finished off. That's three helpers in the last two games for Murphy, and although his ice time remains capped, it's well worth noting that it leaped to 18:21 in this one from an average of 14:39 in the first two games following his recall. However, the second-unit power-play time he's seeing will likely dry up once Justin Faulk (leg) is ready to return.

Hurricanes' Ryan Murphy: Brought up to Carolina

Murphy was recalled by the Hurricanes from AHL Charlotte on Monday. Murphy has tallied four assists through 19 games with Carolina this season, as well as seven goals and 15 assists in 30 games with AHL Charlotte. He is likely being called up to play as starting defensemen Justin Faulk and James Wisniewski continue to deal with nagging injuries. Murphy could see the ice as soon as Tuesday when Carolina plays at New Jersey.

Hurricanes' Ryan Murphy: Reassigned to AHL Charlotte

Murphy was reassigned to AHL Charlotte on Monday. Murphy has been surprisingly productive in limited action with the Hurricanes, recording four assists over a 19 game period while averaging 17:49 of ice time. He will now rejoin the AHL affiliate, but remains a fringe NHL guy that could be recalled again in the future if another blueliner is needed.

Hurricanes' Ryan Murphy: Brought up to Carolina

Murphy was recalled by the Hurricanes on Monday. Murphy adds some much needed depth on the blue line with Brett Pesce (lower body) going on injured reserve. The 22-year-old has not played for Carolina since Dec. 3 and has just four points in 18 contests this season. In the AHL, the defenseman has been significantly more productive, garnering four tallies and 11 helpers in only 20 outings.

Hurricanes' Ryan Murphy: Sent back to AHL

Murphy was reassigned to AHL Charlotte on Friday, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports. Murphy posted four assists in 18 games with the Hurricanes, but had been serving as a healthy scratch a lot recently. He will now return to AHL Charlotte, opening up a roster spot for the Hurricanes to recall Jaccob Slavin on Friday.
