Jets' Mark Scheifele: Eight points to start season

Scheifele has four goals and four assists to show for his efforts after 12 games this season. Scheifele exceeded all expectations last year when he finished the season with 49 points, and so far in the 2015-16 campaign he is on pace for 54 points. He has scored in eight of 12 games this year and has won an impressive 44 percent of his face offs while centering Mathieu Perreault and Nikolaj Ehlers on the consistent second-line.

Winnipeg Jets' Mark Scheifele Scores Jets' first goal of season

Scheifele opened the scoring for the Jets in Thursday's 6-2 Opening Night victory against the Bruins. A popular breakout candidate after he improved from 34 points two years ago to 49 last year, Scheifele got the season started right -- with Winnipeg trailing 1-0 in the second period, he fired a beautiful wrist shot from the high slot past Tuukka Rask to tie the game and wake up the offense. Surprisingly, though, Scheifele played only 13:42 in the game -- that's third-line ice time. Expect Scheifele to see more minute than that moving forward, as it's hard to imagine the Jets using him so lightly.

    • Collects two points Thursday

News: Mark Scheifele picked up a goal and an assist in Thursday night's 3-1 win over the Flames.
Analysis: Mark Scheifele was positioned perfectly around the corner of the net for the score. A seventh overall draft selection by the Jets in 2011, Scheifele burst onto the scene with 15 goals and 34 helpers in 82 games last season. His size at 6-foot-2, 195 pounds allows him to control the puck well, plus the 22-year-old is known for his excellent vision on the ice. Scheifele averaged 18:35 TOI in 2014-15, which was two minutes more than he saw the year before for his rookie campaign. If you seek a top-six forward with plenty of upside in fantasy drafts, Scheifele can be your guy.
    • Jets' Scheifele Dishes In Win

News: Mark Scheifele provided a secondary assist in Monday's 2-0 win over the Wild.
Analysis: Simply put, the Jets are a better team when Mark Scheifele is on the ice, as the young center has set up 33 goals to complement a plus-9 rating this season. Fantasy owners who draft conservatively should appreciate the fact that Scheifele has made his way into every game this season. He's bound to command a higher price in fantasy drafts next year.
    • Jets' Scheifele Grabs Two Points In Win

News: Mark Scheifele scored a goal and helped out on another Thursday in a 5-2 win over the Canadiens.
Analysis: Mark Scheifele has been doing the all-or-nothing thing lately, with three multi-point efforts in his last seven games and no points in the other four contests in that span. Still, it adds up to steady production, and he has a very good shot at hitting 50 points for the first time before all's said and done.
    • Jets' Scheifele: 10 Points In Last 10 Games

    • Jets' Scheifele Racks Up Three Points

News: Mark Scheifele scored on the power play and assisted on Blake Wheeler's two even-strength goals Tuesday in a 5-2 win over the Sharks.
Analysis: It's his first multi-point outing since Feb. 21, but Mark Scheifele has been a consistent scoresheet presence, as he's got 11 points in his last 10 games, dating back to that same day. He has a modest 42 points this year, but wise fantasy owners will prioritize his name in next year's drafts -- the full-season breakout is imminent.
    • Jets' Scheifele Runs Point Streak To Four Games

News: Mark Scheifele gathered an assist in Sunday's 5-2 win over the Kings.
Analysis: Mark Scheifele's point streak now sits at four games, matching his longest run of the season. The production has been especially impressive given the personnel changes Scheifele has been forced to deal with, as the assist in Sunday's game came while he was slotted between Jiri Tlusty and Drew Stafford, both of whom were acquired by the Jets within the last three weeks.
    • Jets' Scheifele: Two Point Game; Both On PP

News: Mark Scheifele picked up a goal and an assist, both of which came on the power play, in Saturday's OT win. He has six points in his last eight games.
Analysis: He now has 33 points on the season, just one shy of his career mark from last season. His fantasy value is largely in the future, but he can deliver some help in leagues that carry large active rosters.
    • Jets' Scheifele Nets Two Assists In Win

News: Mark Scheifele dished out a pair of helpers in Sunday's win over Colorado.
Analysis: Skating on a line with Dustin Byfuglien and Mathieu Perreault, the trio combined for three goals and eight points in the win. Mark Scheifele, who has great potential, has now recorded points in back-to-back games and is up to eight goals and 30 points in 55 games on the season. While he's been inconsistent, the 21-year-old is worth looking at in deeper leagues, as he's skating in the top six of a Jets' team that is in desperate need of a good stretch run to make the playoffs.
