Predators' Craig Smith: Three points in 7-0 rout of Jets

Smith snapped a 10-game pointless drought with a goal and two assists during Saturday's 7-0 rout of the Jets. With 96 points over the past two seasons, you knew Smith was going to bust out eventually, but perhaps not in such dramatic fashion. Those of you who were patient enough to stick with him during his cold spell were nicely rewarded Saturday. The question is, is this the start of a return to more consistent point production for Smith? Only time will tell. In the meantime, however, we need to see more from him before we can recommend him on a regular basis.

Predators' Craig Smith: Struggling to generate offense

Smith was held off the scoresheet during Saturday's OT loss to the Kings, extending his current scoreless streak to five games. Smith now has just three goals and zero assists on the season - at this pace he'll be lucky to hit 30 points. Smith has always been a streaky scorer, so hopefully he picks up the pace and starts to generate a little more offense. For now, he continues to see decent amounts of ice time (16:41) playing on the Preds' second line with Mike Ribeiro and Colin Wilson.

Nashville Predators' Craig Smith Tallies power-play goal in opener

Smith scored on a first-period power play Thursday, helping propel the Predators to a 2-1 season-opening win over Carolina. Smith's coming off a bit of a disappointing follow-up to his 2013-14 breakout campaign, as he saw his point total fall from 52 to 44 and his goal total fall by one (to 23) despite easily setting a new career high in shots on goal. A little rebound in shooting percentage paired with his near-guaranteed top-six ice time should mean a rebound to 50-plus points is well within reach for the talented 26-year-old.

    • Smith Signs Five-Year Contract With Predators

News: Craig Smith signed a five-year, $21.25 million contract extension with the Predators on Monday.
Analysis: Craig Smith and the Predators were reportedly far apart on a new contract as they headed into arbitration, but were able to agree to terms immediately following their salary arbitration hearing on Monday. Smith has been phenomenal for the Predators, posting two straight 20-plus goal seasons with the team, and tallying a total of 47 goals over that span. He will return to a top-six role with Nashville, and barring injury, should continue to be extremely productive for the Predators in 2015-16.
    • Smith And Preds Far Apart On Contract

News: Craig Smith and the Predators are far apart on a contract as they head into arbitration on Monday, reports Elliotte Friedman of Hockey Night in Canada.
Analysis: He has delivered two straight 20-plus goal seasons with the Preds and has 47 goals in those two seasons. So Craig Smith is seeking $4.75 million, but the Preds have offered $3 million. There's still time for the two sides to come to a settlement before arbitration on Monday, but that distance is significant.
    • Preds' Smith Assists On Two

News: Craig Smith provided an assist on both of the club's goals in Sunday's Game 3 loss to the Blackhawks.
Analysis: Although the Predators find themselves down in the series, Craig Smith has been fantastic thus far as he's picked up five points -- all of which have come in the last two games. The 25-year-old racked up another six shots Sunday to bring his playoff total to 16 in just three games as he figures to be one of the top point-producing options for Nashville going forward.
    • Smith Powers Preds In Game 2 Win

News: Craig Smith scored a pair of goals, dished out an assist and fired four shots on goal in Friday's Game 2 victory over the Blackhawks.
Analysis: A monsterous performance from Craig Smith, who was credited with the game-winning goal Friday. The 25-year-old is off to a hot start in the playoffs, firing 10 shots on goal in his first two games. While he lacks playoff experience, Smith scored 23 goals in the regular season and plays a key role for the Predators on their first line and top power-play unit.
    • Preds' Smith Adds Helper In Loss To Avs

News: Craig Smith registered a power-play assist during Tuesday's 3-2 loss to Colorado. He also fired four shots on goal in 16:44 of ice time.
Analysis: With 43 points in 80 games this season, Craig Smith has taken a step back offensively from last year's 52-point effort. However, with the addition of the likes of Mike Ribeiro and James Neal this season, he's no longer one of the Preds' big guns, as evidenced by the dip in his ice time from 16:24 last year to 15:47 currently. Overall, he's still a solid top-six forward and has plenty of value in most fantasy formats - just don't overpay to get him next year.
    • Preds' Smith Nets PPG In Win

News: Craig Smith potted his sixth power-play goal of the season in Saturday's win over the Kings.
Analysis: That's 22 goals and 40 points in 70 games for Craig Smith, who is also sporting a plus-11 rating. The second-liner has been held off the scoresheet just three times in his last 10 games, making him a safe and reliable fantasy option. Sitting among the top-40 NHL goal-scorers, Smith is a solid sniper who can be depended on in most fantasy formats.
    • Preds' Smith Thriving On Top Line

News: Craig Smith failed to crack the scoresheet in Monday's 2-1 OT win over the Coyotes; however, he did register five hits and four shots on goal.
Analysis: Craig Smith still has 12 points in his past 13 games, so don't be too discouraged by this one-game blip. He is once again thriving on the Preds' top line alongside Mike Ribeiro and Filip Forsberg, so keep him rolling.
