Capitals' Stanislav Galiev: Plays on top line Tuesday

Galiev will skate at left wing alongside Nicklas Backstrom and T.J. Oshie for Tuesday's game against the Panthers, Chuck Gormley of CSN Washington reports. Galiev is filling in for Alex Ovechkin (lower body), who was suspended by the NHL for skipping the All-Star game festivities over the weekend. Ovechkin's injury is not believed to be serious, so this prominent assignment for Galiev is likely limited to Tuesday's game only. However, the increase in ice time he will get -- not to mention the quality of his linemates -- gives Galiev some sleeper potential in daily fantasy leagues, so keep him in mind when you fill out your lineup.

Capitals' Stanislav Galiev: Draws into lineup Tuesday

Galiev will be in the lineup Tuesday against the Bruins, Isabelle Khurshudyan of The Washington Post reports. Galiev will take Michael Latta's place on the fourth line and is working with the second power-play unit as well. With just two assists in seven games this season, the third-round pick from the 2010 Draft is a reach outside of deeper leagues even with the special teams assignment.

Capitals' Stanislav Galiev: Will play Saturday

Galiev will play on the third line in Saturday's game against Colorado, Chuck Gormley of CSN Washingtonreports. Galiev will replace the struggling Andre Burakovsky in the lineup. Last playing in a 4-1 win over the Blackhawks on Oct. 15, the 23-year-old Russian has one assist in two games this season and three goals in five games with AHL Hershey. Unless he can stick in the lineup past Saturday, his fantasy value remains quite low.

Capitals' Stanislav Galiev: Recalled to NHL

Galiev was recalled from AHL Hershey on Monday, Isabelle Khurshudyan of the Washington Post reports. Galiev was sent down to the AHL for a two-week conditioning stint, but was apparently ready to rejoin the parent club after just a week and a half. The winger has suited up in just two games this year, averaging 9:39 worth of ice time in those contests.

Capitals' Stanislav Galiev: Sent to AHL for conditioning

Galiev has been sent to AHL Hershey on a conditioning assignment, Isabelle Khurshudyan of the Washington Post reports. Galiev has not played since Oct. 15th when he notched an assist for his second career point. In two games this campaign for which the 23-year-old has played, he averaged 9:39 TOI with just over a minute taking place on the power play. While Galiev has plenty of upside handling the puck, the Russian will need to start logging meaningful minutes before he will warrant attention in the fantasy world.

Capitals' Stanislav Galiev: Galiev could make season debut Tuesday

Galiev was a healthy scratch in the season opener Saturday, but he could make his season debut Tuesday night if Alex Ovechkin, a game-time decision for personal reasons, is unable to play against the Sharks, CSN Mid-Atlantic's J.J. Regan reports. The Capitals are literally hurting at the forward position, as Nicklas Backstrom (hip) and Chris Brown (hand) are on the mend. Galiev is a shifty winger who could be asked to hold down the fort if Ovi doesn't end up playing. According to the report, he worked on the top line and on the power play in Tuesday's morning skate, but will not be inserted on that scoring line if called upon to play. "We'll move lines around," Capitals head coach Barry Trotz said.

  • Scores goal Wednesday

News: Stanislav Galiev scored a goal in Wednesday's 4-3 shootout loss to Carolina.
Analysis: After being challenged by head coach Barry Trotz, Stanislav Galiev has responded well in preseason action with a goal and an assist in his last two games. Although he is competing for a spot on the opening night roster, the 23-year-old is likely to spend most of the season honing his skills with AHL Hershey. Galiev may emerge as a top-six forward down the line, but with T.J. Oshie, Justin Williams, and Tom Wilson firmly entrenched ahead of him on the depth chart, such expectations should be restrained for 2015-16.
  • Records Assist Monday

News: Stanislav Galiev recorded an assist and three shots on goal during Washington's 3-1 win over the Islanders on Monday.
Analysis: His first point of the preseason, the talented Russian is a dark horse candidate to make the opening night roster as a fourth-line player, particularly with Michael Latta (lower body) and Chris Brown (hand) both battling injuries. However, Stanislav Galiev is still likely to spend most of the season with AHL Hershey unless he can claim a more meaningful offensive role, and is likely still another season or two away from being a consistently relevant fantasy performer.
  • Caps Reach Two-Year Deal With Galiev

News: Stanislav Galiev re-signed Wednesday with the Capitals on a two-year, $1.15 million contract, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Stanislav Galiev's contract will be a two-way deal for the upcoming season, and a one-way pact for 2016-17. The 23-year-old Russian left winger raised his stock at AHL Hershey last season after tallying 25 goals and 45 points in 67 games, and could be given the chance to compete for a roster spot with the Capitals in training camp. He ended up skating in two games for the parent club in 2014-15, notching his first career goal in an April 8 match against the Rangers.
  • Capitals Reassign Galiev

News: Stanislav Galiev was reassigned to AHL Hershey on Sunday, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Stanislav Galiev was recalled for the final two games of the regular season, but will now return to AHL Hershey after notching his first career NHL goal Saturday.
