Oilers' Ryan Nugent-Hopkins: Will have surgery

Nugent-Hopkins will have surgery on his hand. Nugent-Hopkins injured the hand while blocking a shot Monday and now isn't expected to return to the team until March at the earliest. An optimist will tell you that the Oilers are somewhat deep at center but it has to be frustrating for the organization to constantly lose top six forward to long term injuries. When Nugent-Hopkins returns, it likely won't be as the number one center as that is expected to belong to Connor McDavid as soon as he returns from his broken collarbone in early February.

Oilers' Ryan Nugent-Hopkins: Out 6-8 weeks

Nugent-Hopkins will miss the next 6-8 weeks. Nugent-Hopkins was hurt while blocking a shot during the Oilers win Monday. The Oilers have been snake bit with injuries this season. They have lost Jordan Eberle, Connor McDavid, and Nail Yakupov for long periods of time. Nugent-Hopkins wasn't lighting the lamp with any kind of consistency but his 30 points were third on the team so he will be missed. Leon Draisaitl will likely take over as the top line center, at least until McDavid returns.

Oilers' Ryan Nugent-Hopkins: Long-term hand injury

Nugent-Hopkins sustained a long-term hand injury in Monday's game against Florida according to coach Todd McLellan. Nugent-Hopkins picked up the injury while attempting to block a shot Monday and was refined to an abbreviated outing as a result. The exact length of Nugent-Hopkins' absence remains unclear, but Anton Lander seems to be in store for unexpected playing time at center over the coming weeks.

Oilers' Ryan Nugent-Hopkins: Exits with undisclosed injury

Nugent-Hopkins will not return to Monday's game against Florida after sustaining an undisclosed injury while blocking a shot attempt. The extent of the injury remains undetermined, but Nugent-Hopkins will be in danger of also sitting out Tuesday's game against the Lightning. Fellow center Anton Lander should be waiting in the wings if Nugent-Hopkins will need additional time off the ice.

Oilers' Ryan Nugent-Hopkins: Hasn't scored in 14 games

The scoreless streak for Nugent-Hopkins has now reached 14 games. Nugent-Hopkins only has eight goals so far this season and while that total is disappointing, his overall point total is right in line with the numbers he has put up over the past couple of seasons. Unfortunately for his fantasy owners those numbers are being built mainly by his 21 assists. Nugent-Hopkins could also be in danger of losing his top six forward spot should the Oilers decide to keep Leon Draisaitl at center once Connor McDavid (collarbone) returns in early February. The bottom line is that Nugent-Hopkins needs to find a way to light the lamp more often than just eight times in 44 games.

Oilers' Ryan Nugent-Hopkins: Has gone 11 games without a goal.

Nugent-Hopkins hasn't scored since Dec. 14 at Boston (11 games). Nugent-Hopkins does have seven assists during the drought but it would still be nice for the Oilers and fantasy owners if he would wrinkle the twine every now and again. He has been bounced from the top line to the second line a couple of times this season, something that could continue with the return of Connor McDavid (collarbone).

Oilers' Ryan Nugent-Hopkins: Two helpers not enough Sunday

Nugent-Hopkins contributed two assists in Sunday's loss to the Flames. While it was a good night for the Oilers second line, it wasn't enough, as Edmonton imploded after holding a 3-1 lead in the second period. Nugent-Hopkins, who had gone four straight games without a point prior to Sunday, is now up to eight goals and 25 points in 36 games. The second-line center is a talented offensive weapon who makes for a safe fantasy bet every night.

Oilers' Ryan Nugent-Hopkins: Moved up to top line

Nugent-Hopkins has been moved to the top line with Leon Draisaitl and Taylor Hall, reports the Edmonton Journal. The Oilers may continue to tinker with their top two lines for most of the season as they try to figure out what combination works the best together. This will only get more complicated when Connor McDavid returns next month. It's a little surprising that the Oilers would play their top two centers on the same line (Nugent-Hopkins, Draisaitl) but they may be trying to get an idea if this line is workable as McDavid will likely center the second line when he is healthy enough to do so.

Oilers' Ryan Nugent-Hopkins: Piles on two more points Monday

Nugent-Hopkins scored a goal and added an assist in Monday's 3-2 overtime win over Boston. The Nuge has come alive for five points in the last four games, giving him 22 in 30 contests this season -- a 60-point pace that would eclipse his previous career high of 56. He's an important cog in the Oilers' system and has been influential in their current six-game winning streak.

Oilers' Ryan Nugent-Hopkins: Gets goal and assist against Sharks

Nugent-Hopkins picked up a goal and an assist Wednesday against San Jose. Nugent-Hopkins is on an eerily similar pace after finishing with exactly 56 points and a minus-12 rating in each of the last two seasons. He's a solid player, but it seems Nugent-Hopkins is perennially over-hyped due to his status as the top pick in the 2011 NHL draft. This was his first multi-point game since Nov. 11.
