Coyotes' Shane Doan: Can break multiple franchise records this season

Doan has a chance to break multiple franchise milestones this season. The Coyotes captain is entering his 20th season in Arizona and has a shot to etch his name in the record books. He needs just two points to become the second play in franchise history to reach 900 on his career. Doan trails Dale Hawerchuk (929) by 31 points for the most in Coyotes history. He needs to score 12 times and tally 24 helpers to become the franchise leader in goals (Hawerchuk, 379) and assists (Thomas Steen, 553). So far, Doan has been held scoreless, but should have no trouble breaking these records as long as he's healthy.

  • Yotes' Doan To Make Preseason Debut

News: Shane Doan is expected to make his preseason debut Monday against the Canucks, NHL.com's Dave Vest reports.
Analysis: Shane Doan was originally expected to miss Monday's contest due to a nagging lower-body injury he's been dealing with throughout training camp, so the fact that he's returning to action ahead of schedule is certainly a positive development for the veteran winger's owners. He will return to his role on the Coyotes' top line in 2015-16.
  • Coyotes' Doan Recovering From Toe Surgery

News: Shane Doan acknowledged that he underwent surgery on his toe about a month ago, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: Shane Doan has already resumed working out on the ice with the Coyotes' strength and conditioning coordinator, so he appears in no danger of being ready for the start of the 2015-16 season. The 20-year veteran is nearing the end of the road, and after compiling 36 points and a minus-29 rating last season, he makes for little more than a complementary forward at this stage of his career.
  • Coyotes' Doan Likely To Play Saturday

News: Shane Doan (lower body) is likely to return to the lineup Saturday against the Ducks, Craig Morgan of FOX Sports Arizona reports.
Analysis: The injury prevented Shane Doan from suiting up Thursday against the Canucks, but the tough veteran appears well enough to suit up for the Coyotes' final home game of the season. The 38-year-old's numbers were unsurprisingly compromised by the Coyotes' disaster of a season, as he'll enter the lineup Saturday with 36 points and a minus-28 rating over 78 games.
  • Coyotes' Doan Sidelined

News: Shane Doan (lower body) won't play Thursday against the Canucks.
Analysis: Though he didn't take part in line rushes, Shane Doan was on the ice for Thursday's morning skate, which puts him in the day-to-day category in advance of Saturday's season finale against the Ducks. Henrik Samuelsson in line to fill in for the Coyotes' captain up front on Thursday, joining Tobias Rieder and Mark Arcobello on the top trio.
  • Coyotes' Doan Leaves With Lower-Body Injury

News: Shane Doan left Tuesday's game with a lower-body injury and will not return, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: Further details will likely surface after the game, but for now Shane Doan should be considered day-to-day.
  • Yotes' Doan Nets Three Points In Win

News: Shane Doan scored his 14th goal of the season and added two assists in Saturday's win over the Sharks.
Analysis: A strong offensive outburst from the 38-year-old, who found twine for the first time in 10 games. He's had a down season with a struggling Arizona team, managing just 36 points in 77 games. He's still a top-six scorer and a strong offensive threat, but his 30-goal, 70-point seasons are well behind him.
  • Yotes' Doan Gets Assist, Involved In Scary Play

News: Shane Doan had an assist and seven PIM in Saturday's loss to Pittsburgh.
Analysis: He was involved in a scary incident where he hit Pens' defender Kris Letang, who went backwards into the boards, hitting his head. Letang required transport to hospital. "I just went to make sure I got a piece of him so he couldn't jump by me and he obviously went into the boards awkward," Shane Doan said after the game. "You feel awful as a player when something like that happens."
  • Coyotes' Doan Picks Up Assist In Loss

News: Shane Doan had an assist Thursday in a 5-2 loss to Colorado. He was minus-3 with three shots and three hits in the contest.
Analysis: Despite picking up points in two of his last three games, Shane Doan has been ice cold for some time, collecting just five points in 22 games since February 1. With 32 points in 69 games, Doan is on pace for his lowest point total since his rookie season and, at age 38, is likely done as a productive fantasy player.
  • Coyotes' Doan Picks Up Assist In Loss

News: Down picked up an assist Saturday in a 4-1 loss to the Bruins. He picked up two PIM and took three shots in the contest.
Analysis: This was Shane Doan's first point in eight games as the veteran struggles in one of the worst offensive seasons of his career. He is probably going to miss the 20-goal and 40-point mark this year and with the Coyotes likely rebuilding he won't be getting much new help anytime soon.
