    • Career Appears Over For Ducks' Souray

News: Sheldon Souray (wrist) wrote on his personal Twitter account that Tuesday would mark his "last day on an NHL roster."
Analysis: The 38-year-old Sheldon Souray has missed the last two seasons due to a wrist injury that appears to have compromised his ability to shoot the puck. With his three-year, $11 million contract with the Ducks expiring at midnight Wednesday, it looks like Souray will head for retirement. He'll leave the game with four 35-plus point campaigns on his resume in a 13-year NHL career that included stops in New Jersey, Montreal, Edmonton, Dallas, and Anaheim.
    • Ducks' Souray Might Not Be Able To Keep Playing

News: GM Bob Murray said Sheldon Souray's career remains in jeopardy as a result of his season-ending wrist procedure in January,'s Curtis Zupke reports.
Analysis: With the beginning of training camp closing in on the Ducks, it sounds like the team is preparing for the possibility of life without Sheldon Souray for a second consecutive season. Souray hasn't received clearance to begin practicing in full, and his advancing age (he's 38 years old) certainly doesn't work to his advantage. Even if Souray is able to return to some semblance of health at some point this season, expect him to play much less than the 20:56 minutes per game he averaged in 44 contests during the lockout-shortened 2012-13 campaign.
    • Ducks' Souray Out For Year

News: Sheldon Souray, who has yet to play in 2013-14, will have season-ending wrist surgery Friday, ESPN's Pierre LeBrun reports.
Analysis: Sheldon Souray's season will come to an end before it ever started. He's been nursing a torn ligament in his wrist since August and was originally expected to miss four-to-six months. Instead, he'll miss the entire season and shoot for a 2014-15 return for the final season of his ongoing three-year contract.
    • Ducks' Souray Slow To Make Progress

News: Sheldon Souray (wrist) is still being labeled as week-to-week in his recovery, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Sheldon Souray has yet to regularly skate with the team and has no official timetable for his return. With the Ducks currently in the midst of their best hockey of the season, there's no need for the team to rush Souray back into action until his wrist has fully recovered from offseason surgery.
    • Ducks' Souray Skates Thursday Morning

News: Sheldon Souray (wrist) skated before Thursday's practice, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Sheldon Souray is not yet practicing with the team and can't be considered close to returning until he does so. He's still recovering from wrist surgery and isn't expected to return until late December at the earliest.
    • Ducks' Souray Resumes Skating

News: Sheldon Souray (wrist) resumed skating earlier this week,'s Curtis Zupke reports.
Analysis: It appears Sheldon Souray is incorporating further hockey-related activities into his regimen after having the cast on his wrist removed in late-September. The Ducks don't have a present timetable for Souray's return, but it could probably be assumed that he won't be considered especially close until he takes part in full-contact sessions.
    • Ducks' Souray (Wrist) Sheds Cast

News: Sheldon Souray (torn wrist ligament) said he is no longer wearing his cast and began rehab work Monday, the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Sheldon Souray's recovery has progressed as expected thus far, keeping him on track to return at some point in late December or early January. Even once he's cleared to return to action, Souray's wrist might not have the same type of power that allowed him to rack up seven goals in 44 games last season.
    • Ducks' Souray Sidelined By Wrist Injury

News: Sheldon Souray, who suffered a torn ligament in his wrist during an off-ice workout, will be out for four-to-six months, reports.
Analysis: Sheldon Souray, who recorded seven goals and 10 assists in 44 games for the Ducks last season, underwent surgery to repair his wrist issue on July 25. Given the timetable presented, he's in line to miss the start of the season.
    • Souray Gets Assist In Ducks' Win

News: Sheldon Souray registered an assist late in the second period of the Ducks' 3-2 overtime win over the Red Wings in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs on Wednesday
Analysis: After not registering a point in any of the Ducks' last three regular season games or first three postseason games and missing Game 4 of the playoffs, Wednesday's assist could be a big step towards Sheldon Souray getting back on track.
    • Ducks' Souray To Sit Saturday

News: Sheldon Souray will be a healthy scratch for Game 3 on Saturday, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: After taking a pair of bad penalties -- including one that enabled the Red Wings to pot a game-winning goal in overtime in Game 2 -- Sheldon Souray will take a seat for Anaheim on Saturday night.
