    • Panthers Buy Out Jovanovski

News: Ed Jovanovski has cleared waivers and will be bought out by the Panthers, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Ed Jovanovski has played in just 43 total games over the past two seasons, collecting a total of six points during that span. The 38-year-old will become an unrestricted free agent, but could very well elect retirement.
    • Panthers Buying Out Jovanovski

News: The Panthers placed Ed Jovanovski on unconditional waivers for the purpose of a buyout, Bob McKenzie of TSN reports.
Analysis: The hulking defenseman just turned 38 years old, and was carrying a cap hit of over $4 million per season. He'll become an unrestricted free agent after the buyout is complete, but he could opt for retirement as well.
    • Panthers' Jovanovski Likely To Sit Out Tuesday

News: Ed Jovanovski will likely sit out Tuesday's game against the Islanders, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: The Panthers' captain does not play back-to-back games, given his recent injury history, so this development is nothing to fret about. Ed Jovanovski has only one goal and four assists to show for his 32 games this season. He's no longer a fantasy asset in most formats at this point in his career.
    • Panthers' Jovanovski Showing Age

News: Ed Jovanovski has one goal and three assists in 17 games this season.
Analysis: The veteran blueliner was injured for most of the season, but returned to the lineup in January. He didn't score in the last eight games before the Olympic break, and isn't expected to contribute much offensively when games resume.
    • Panthers' Jovanovski Scores First Of Season

News: Ed Jovanovski tallied his first goal since April 5, 2012, in Tuesday night's 4-3 win in Buffalo.
Analysis: Ed Jovanovski turned back the clock Tuesday night, as he also added an assist and was plus-3 in the victory. Jovanovski will not be a strong fantasy asset going forward, but will see some occasional power-play time and has the potential to chip in points sporadically.
    • Panthers JovoCop: First Game In Over Nine Months

News: Ed Jovanovski (hip) played his first game in more than nine months when he suited up for Saturday's game against the Predators. He was plus-3 in 15:54.
Analysis: He saw some time on the power play and penalty kill units, too. He's believed to be the first player of the four U.S. pro leagues to ever come back from hip-resurfacing surgery. Hip resurfacing is an alternative to replacement surgery and involves the placement of a metal cap over the head of the femur and a metal cup in the hip socket for the cap to move in. His return is nothing short of a miracle; fantasy production (if it comes) would be gravy.
    • Jovanovski Activated From IR

News: Ed Jovanovski (hip) has been activated from IR, NHL.com reports.
Analysis: Ed Jovanovski -- who had hip surgery in April -- is now poised to make his season debut Saturday against Nashville. Jovanovski, who was limited to six games last season, isn't much of a fantasy factor these days, but he does provide valuable veteran leadership on the Panthers' blue line.
    • Panthers' Jovanovski Cleared To Play Saturday

News: Ed Jovanovski (hip) has been cleared to make his season debut Saturday against the Predators, the Sun Sentinel's Harvey Fialkov reports.
Analysis: The Panthers will probably wait until after Friday's practice before confirming Ed Jovanovski's return from IR, but barring any late setbacks, it looks like he'll be active for the first time this season. He hasn't played in an NHL game since last March after undergoing season-ending surgery, requiring the entire summer and fall to recover.
    • Panthers' Jovanovski Out Through Early January

News: Ed Jovanovski will remain sidelined through early January, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Jovanovksi's status will continue to be a week-to-week process until he begins to make significant progress. The captain of the Panthers has been out of the lineup since March, and the team is in no rush to put him back in.
    • Panthers' Jovanovski Out Until After Christmas

News: Interim coach Pete Horachek said Ed Jovanovski (hip) would be out until after Christmas at the earliest, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Ed Jovanovski appeared to be making some progress after resuming skating within the last month, but it's evidently going to be a slow process for the veteran defenseman, who underwent hip surgery last April. Even when he gets back on the ice, don't expect the 37-year-old to get tons of ice time for a team with an eye on rebuilding.
