Sharks' Dainius Zubrus: Inks one-year, two-way deal with Sharks

Zubrus has signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Sharks. Zubrus was released from his professional tryout contract with the Blues in early November, but the 37-year-old didn't give up and now gets a shot with Team Teal. He has familiarity with Sharks bench boss Peter DeBoer, as DeBoer served as his coach from 2011-14, when he was a member of the Devils. In all likelihood, Zubrus will be planted in a bottom-six role with the Sharks, providing much needed depth on the wings.

Sharks' Dainius Zubrus: Signs with Sharks on PTO

Zubrus has signed with the Sharks on a professional tryout, CSN Bay Area reports. The 37-year-old Zubrus hasn't decided to call it quits yet, and he'll now join the Sharks with the hopes of receiving a contract from the club. He won't be able to play in games unless a contract is signed, but he will practice with the team.

Dainius Zubrus: Released from PTO on Friday

Zubrus has been released from his professional tryout contract with the Blues, Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Zubrus and Martin Havlat each signed PTOs in late October, but it was the latter who ultimately earned a contract with the Blues.

Dainius Zubrus: Invited to PTO by Blues

The Blues have invited Zubrus to a professional tryout contract. Like Martin Havlat, who also has been invited to a PTO, Zubrus is an experienced winger who could help a Blues team that has been ravaged by injuries early this season. Zubrus spent the past eight seasons with the Devils, recording just 10 points in 74 games in 2014-15. While he's never been a prolific scorer, Zubrus would provide veteran leadership to the Blues, who currently have a 5-2-1 record and play in a super competitive Central Division.

    • Devils Release Veteran Winger Zubrus

News: The Devils terminated Dainius Zubrus' contract Wednesday, making him an unrestricted free agent, Frank Seravalli of TSN.ca reports.
Analysis: Dainius Zubrus had never been much of a top-flight offensive producer in his eight seasons in a Devils uniform, but he saw his scoring output completely fall off a cliff in 2014-15, as he netted just four goals and 10 points across 74 games. With the Devils looking to give some younger players an opportunity in their forward ranks and Zubrus' ice time likely to decline even further in the coming season, the team decided it wasn't worthwhile to keep him around at his $3.1 million cap hit. The 37-year-old could conceivably latch on in a depth role with another club, but no matter where he ultimately lands, an ascension to fantasy relevance probably isn't in the cards.
    • Devils' Zubrus Snaps 50-Game Goal Drought

News: Dainius Zubrus snapped a 50-game goal drought when he found the net for one of the Devils' two scores in Tuesday's loss to the Wild.
Analysis: The 36-year-old Dainius Zubrus has never provided much in the way of offensive upside, but he's sunk to a new low in 2014-15. He's managed only eight points in 59 games, which has led to a nearly three-minute dip in ice time from a season earlier.
    • Devils' Zubrus Notches Assist

News: Dainius Zubrus recorded an assist in Saturday's win over the Panthers.
Analysis: The 36-year-old has never been a top-flight scorer, but he seems to be running on fumes at this point. He's produced only two goals and five assists over 42 games, putting him on pace for the lowest point total of his career in any non-lockout season.
    • Devils' Zubrus To Play Saturday

News: Dainius Zubrus (leg laceration) was activated from injured reserve and will play Saturday against the Rangers, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Dainius Zubrus will finally return to the Devils' lineup after missing New Jersey's last eight games with the injury. The winger has tallied four points through 28 games this season, giving him rather marginal value.
    • Devils' Zubrus Skating On Own

News: Dainius Zubrus (leg laceration) skated on his own Friday morning, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Dainius Zubrus remains on IR and will again sit out Friday's game against the Lightning, but the team does appear to consider him day-to-day in his recovery. He may need to get in a practice or two with the rest of the team before he's formally activated, so a return for Saturday's game probably shouldn't be anticipated either.
    • Devils Place Zubrus On IR

News: Dainius Zubrus (leg laceration) was placed on injured reserve Thursday, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: The Devils are still considering Dainius Zubrus day-to-day after he was able to skate earlier in the day, but was moved to IR to create some roster flexibility. Since he's already missed the minimum seven days required for an IR stint, he'll be eligible for activation immediately once he becomes healthier.
