Sharks' Joe Thornton: Points down this season

Thornton is on pace for 52 points in 2015-16. Those numbers, while certainly useful in most leagues, would stand as the third consecutive season in which his totals have dipped. Jumbo Joe lost the lead captaincy role to Joe Pavelski ahead of the 2015-16 season, but still has the "A" stitched to his sweater as alternate captain and remains an offensive cog for Team Teal.

Sharks' Joe Thornton: Assists in win

Thornton had an assist two penalty minutes and a shot in Friday's win. Thronton continues to be reliable. You kind of know what you're getting with him and he just keeps providing it. He's like a really big Santa who gives assists to all the boys and girls.

Sharks' Joe Thornton: Grabs assist in loss

Thornton had an assist and a pair of shots in Saturday's loss to the Stars. With seven points in his first 10 games, Thornton is producing offense at the rate you hoped for. He's no longer a big goal scorer, but he puts up assists with the best players in the league.

    • Picks up two points in opener

News: Joe Thornton picked up a goal and an assist on two shots, while finishing with a plus-3 rating against the Kings on Wednesday.
Analysis: The Kings had no answer for the Sharks top line of Joe Thornton, Joonas Donskoi and Joe Pavelski. Any owners worried that father time would finally catch up to the 36-year-old Thornton can rest easy for the moment.
    • Grabs assist in preseason win

News: Joe Thornton had an assist and no shots in Friday's preseason win over Arizona.
Analysis: That's kind of what you can expect from Joe Thornton, as the aging center has become more and more of a distributor as his career progresses. The 36-year-old won't rack up many shots or goals, but he's good for an elite number of assists -- he's posted no less than 49 in each of his last 11 full NHL seasons -- especially with a 40-goal threat like Joe Pavelski on the wing.
    • Sharks' Thornton Gets PP Tally In Loss

News: Joe Thornton notched a power-play goal in Monday's 5-1 loss to the Sharks.
Analysis: The 35-year-old relationship with GM Doug Wilson may be frayed, but he's still managed to put together yet another productive season, even if it's not quite as fabulous as a year earlier. He's rebounded from a seven-game pointless skid with goals in back-to-back contests, giving him 16 on the season and 64 points overall.
    • Two More Assists For Sharks' Thornton

News: Joe Thornton turned in his second consecutive two-assist game Thursday in a win over the Leafs.
Analysis: He also took four shots on goal -- the first time he's put that many pucks on net since Dec. 22. As usual, Thorny just keeps piling the assists -- with 48 of 'em, he's just one short of Jakub Voracek and Sidney Crosby, who are tied for second in the NHL.
    • Sharks' Thornton Hits 60 Points

News: Joe Thornton reached the 60-point mark Tuesday by dishing out assists on both San Jose goals in a 5-2 loss to the Jets.
Analysis: He also went plus-1, pushing his rating back to a nice, even zero on the year. Thorny will have to finish at nearly a point-per-game pace to hit 70 points for the 12th time in his career, but he's been on the sheet consistently of late -- eight points in his last seven games -- so that's hardly unrealistic.
    • Sharks' Thornton Picks Up Two Points In Loss

News: Joe Thornton scored his 13th goal of the season and had an assist in Saturday's loss to Vancouver.
Analysis: That's six points in five games for Joe Thornton, who now has 44 assists and 57 points in 62 games on the season. He's already got more goals than he had last season and is on pace for another 70-point campaign. You know what to do.
