Bruins' Zdeno Chara: Nets winner late in game

Chara scored the game-winning goal Saturday in a 2-0 win over Toronto. It came at the 16:17 mark of the third period. The old man is starting to put up some points -- Chara has four (two goals, two assists) in his five games. His game is clearly in decline, but Chara is still helping his team win. And honestly, his 11 points in 17 games are pure gravy.

Bruins' Zdeno Chara: Back in action

In his regular season debut, Chara (upper body) recorded three shots in 21:27 of ice time in Monday's 6-3 loss to the Lightning. Per CSN New England, Chara, who was minus-2 in the game, "didn't appear to show any discomfort" while unloading any of his three shots Monday, and while the big blueliner saw just 40 seconds worth of power play time in his return, we'd expect him to see more man-advantage work moving forward. In any case, while Chara's return didn't generate an instant turnaround for the 0-3 B's, his size, experience and leadership remain assets to the team's blue line corps, a unit that that has had its share of issues out of the gate.

Bruins' Zdeno Chara: Set to return Monday

Chara (upper body) is slated to play Monday against the Lightning. Chara is thus slated to come off IR on Monday, with his return a welcome one, as the Bruins are 0-2 out of the gate, having been outscored by opponents by a 10-4 mark in that span. Chara, who recorded 20 points and 42 PIM in 63 games last season, is a candidate for an uptick in production in 2015-16, assuming his health, given his projected role with the Bruins, which should see him log heavy minutes, both in even strength and man-advantage situations.

Bruins' Zdeno Chara: Iffy for Monday

Chara (upper body) is "questionable" to play Monday against the Lightning, per coach Claude Julien. Chara, who sat out Saturday's contest against the Canadiens, appears to be progressing toward a return to action, though it still remains unclear if he will be activated from the 0-2 B's IR list in advance of Monday's game.

Bruins' Zdeno Chara: Very doubtful for Saturday

Chara is reportedly "very doubtful" for Saturday's tilt against the Canadiens, Steve Conroy of the Boston Herald reports. Chara was on the ice for the Bruins' morning skate Saturday, but skated as part of the team's fourth pairing, indicating he's not expected to suit up for Saturday's game against Montreal. His status will be confirmed prior to puck drop, but it looks as though Chara will be held out for at least one more contest with the upper-body injury that's been bothering him since Sept. 24.

Bruins D Zdeno Chara considerd iffy for Saturday

Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara (upper body injury) looked "free and easy while shooting the puck" during Friday's practice, CSN New England reports. That said, there's still no word on whether Chara will be available for Saturday night's game against the Canadiens. As the contest approaches, the B's captain remains day-to-day and if he is unable to go Saturday, his next chance to play would arrive Monday afternoon against the Lightning.

Boston Bruins' Zdeno Chara Won't play Thursday

Chara (upper body) won't play Thursday against the Jets. That said, per coach Claude Julien, Chara continues to progress every day and it's possible that the big blueliner could be available for game action as soon as Saturday night's game against Montreal.

    • Still questionable for opener

News: Zdeno Chara remains questionable to play in Thursday's season opener, the Boston Herald reports.
Analysis: Zdeno Chara remains on IR with an undisclosed upper body injury, but he skated with the team Wednesday afternoon for the second straight day. Hoewver, he was not on the first unit and was used as a substitute on the second unit. "He's a guy who's getting better all the time. Haven't had a chance to chat with him," said coach Claude Julien. "I know there's a decision to be made as far as (the opener) is concerned, whether we take him off IR or we leave him on. I don't have that answer, but I know he's feeling a lot better. Early in the season, we have to make a decision here on whether he's well enough that we can take that risk or whether we want to be more cautious. That's a discussion I'm sure is going to happen at some point before (Thursday)." Chara, himself, offered a similarly bland quote, stating only that he was "just focusing on having a good practice" Wednesday. Expect a final update on Chara's status sometime Thursday.
    • Practices again Wednesday

News: Zdeno Chara (upper body) practiced for the second-straight day on Wednesday and worked on the power-play unit, Joe Haggerty of Comcast Sportsnet reports.
Analysis: Still on IR, Zdeno Chara's return to practice and his work on special teams is a positive sign for his return. While it's unknown whether or not he'll play on Thursday in the team's opener, Chara seems like a safe bet to be back on the ice sooner rather than later.
    • Resumes practice

News: Zdeno Chara (upper body) was present for Tuesday's practice.
Analysis: Though Zdeno Chara was placed on IR by the Bruins, the move was retroactive to Sept. 24, meaning that the big blueliner could still possibly be activated in advance of Thursday's regular season opener. Per coach Claude Julien, it was "a good sign" that Chara took the ice at practice Tuesday, with the report also noting that the B's will continue to evaluate Chara after each of his on-ice sessions.
