Senators' Cody Ceci: Continues strong run of production

Ceci potted his fifth goal of the year and added an assist in Tuesday's 6-5 loss to the Penguins. That's seven points for Ceci over the last seven games, a remarkable run of offensive productivity that has put him on equal footing with star teammate Erik Karlsson during that stretch. The question is whether he can parlay this hot streak into a sustainable growth in productivity; while Ottawa's got plenty of offensive talent to help Ceci out, he's got to get more shots on goal than the meager 60 he's managed through 44 games (and just two in the last four).

Senators' Cody Ceci: Quietly starting to produce

Ceci scored a goal and added an assist Thursday in New Jersey, pushing his point streak to three games. It's not exactly a legendary run, but hey, after Ceci picked up just two points in his prior 14 games -- with a six-game injury absence mixed in -- this is a welcome outburst. Thursday's goal was his first since way back on Nov. 5, and the multi-point effort was his first of the year. It's worth remembering that Ceci showed plenty of offensive ability in juniors and the AHL, and at 22 years old, he's got room to continue growing that part of his game at hockey's highest level. Still, don't let your expectations get too high for the near term.

Senators' Cody Ceci: Will return Thursday

Ceci (upper body) will be back in the lineup Thursday night against the Panthers, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports. Ceci was an injured spectator for the last six games. When he was drafted with the 15th overall pick in 2012, pundits touted Ceci for his two-way game, though we have yet to see his full potential from an offensive standpoint since he's had just 38 points in 163 career games. Still, Ceci is just 22 years old and has plenty of room to mature his game.

Senators' Cody Ceci: On ice Wednesday

Ceci (upper body) skated Wednesday before the Senators took the ice for practice, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Suns reports. Ceci has not played since Dec. 20, missing a total of six contests. While getting on the ice shows some progress, the 22-year-old remains without a timetable to return. When healthy, the blueliner has tallied eight points in 33 outings.

    Senators' Cody Ceci: Considered week-to-week

Ceci (upper body) is considered week-to-week, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports. Sunday will mark one week since Ceci suffered his upper-body injury, and given his designation, it seems likely he will at least another week.

Senators' Cody Ceci: Sitting out with injury Tuesday

Ceci (upper body) has been placed on injured reserve, TSN's Steve Lloyd reports. Originally considered questionable for Tuesday's game after being injured Sunday, Ceci will now sit out for a week to heal up. Fortunately, his IR placement coincides with the NHL's holiday break, meaning that Ceci could miss as few as two games before potentially returning Dec. 29 in Boston. However, the 22-year-old's been seeing his ice time drop recently, and with near-zero power-play minutes to accompany his modest eight points on the season, he has minimal short-term offensive upside.

Senators' Cody Ceci: Questionable for Tuesday

Ceci (upper body) is considered questionable for Tuesday's game against the Panthers, Don Brennan of the Ottawa Sun reports. Ceci was injured in Sunday's game against the Lightning, and it appears the issue could extend into Tuesday's contest as well. Expect a refreshed status on him at some point Tuesday, providing a better picture on his availability.

Senators' Cody Ceci: Leaves with upper-body injury

Ceci exited Sunday's contest against the Lightning with an upper-body injury and will not return. It's unclear exactly what caused Ceci's injury, but it will cost him the remainder of Sunday's contest at a minimum. His next chance to return comes Tuesday against the Panthers, but the team should provide an update on his status at some point prior to the game.

Senators' Cody Ceci: Ends month-plus goal skid

Ceci got in the goal column for the first time since Nov. 5, but it was the Sens' only goal in a 4-1 loss to Tampa on Thursday. Ceci's not well known for his offensive contributions -- he hadn't taken a shot on goal in the four games prior and this was only his seventh point of the season. He doesn't play heavy minutes and sees precious little power-play time, but he wasn't shy about getting into a prime scoring area on a delayed penalty and beating Ben Bishop to the glove side.

Senators' Cody Ceci: Will return Tuesday

Ceci is set to return to the Senator's lineup for Tuesday night's matchup with the Predators in Nashville. Ceci will be playing alongside Patrick Wiercioch on the second-line for Ottawa. The 21-year-old Ottawa native notched his second goal of the season in the last game he played before sustaining a lower body injury. The young defenseman is a capable scorer when healthy, and should be a good asset for the Senators going forward.
